It’s a complicated game but we learned it in one session. My daughter always wins cos she’s better at thinking ahead than I am! You need quite a big table though, especially with the expansion.

I was surprised when I saw that you turned over all the tokens when the age started as I did not read the rules properly. Although I did find it fun when I only revealed the mythology/discount token at the same time I revealed the card. 😄
Hi Joshua. We almost missed that rule too. I read through the rulebook to make sure we weren't missing anything just before we shot the video and I spotted that one. We used to play, as you did, not revealing them until the card was revealed and it was indeed fun to only find out then. :)
Glai could have won a military victory on a turn earlier than she did. At 32:53, she could have used the yellow card on the left to build the Sphinx, then built the 3-military on the following turn. I've been playing a ton of this on BGA and I've found that timing is by far the most important aspect of the game. By changing the tempo with go-again Wonders and Pantheon cards, you can really force your opponent to take stuff they don't want and flip the stuff you do want. Great playthrough thanks!

Watching you guys play made me realize everything I like about the game. We only have the base game but now I would perhaps consider adding Pantheon. It's a tough decision to make because it does appear to change the base game up quite a bit! gg
Pantheon does change the game up Andrew, but I think in a good way. The base game is fantastic, and it still keeps all of the elements of the base game, but it is a nice touch that you can play a deity without having to use a card from the structure. It adds an extra level of strategy and makes it more difficult to calculate which cards you will get later in the Age. I would certainly recommend trying it out.

Could you comment on Minerva? - I'm seeing different interpretations of the how to play: If Minerva directly in front of a Conflict Pawn that does a 3 shield play have all movement stopped, or does Minerva only absorb 1 of the shields forward movements - thus the 3 move becomes a 2 move? In either case, I understand the Minerva is removed.
@@scottmccloud2894 The rule about Minerva says that "If the Conflict pawn would enter the space which contains the Minerva pawn, it instead stops moving and its movement ends." So, in your example, if Minerva is directly in front of a Conflict Pawn, then a 3 shield play will have no effect other than removing the Minerva. Hope this helps! :-)

Thank you for your tutorial. There aren’t a lot of tutorials out there on this, and this was clear. I am confused though, when you took your first God, you took a six coin reduction on the gate. 2 x -2, and your wonder reduction of -2. This made sense, but you left one of your -2 coins in your inventory. Shouldn’t they both have disappeared? Also, on the wonder that you created that gave you a -2 offering, does that stay? Is it a persistent effect?
Hello there. Actually, one of the tokens that Glai had was a -4, not a -2. Please see 21:13 when she picks it up. The other one was a -2 so she kept that. The -2 discount from the Sanctuary is a persistent effect. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
This is a great play through!! We just received the Pantheon Expansion and this play through makes the new elements and rules very easy to understand. If I’m not mistaken, when Glai bought The Gate, she should have used both of her offering tokens, plus the -2 from The Sanctuary. She said that it would cost her nothing, but she kept one of her offering tokens.
…and she did it again when she bought Baal. She should have used her 3 coin, her 1 coin and offering coin. But instead she kept her 3 coin, used two offering coins (don’t forget she should not have had one of them, because it should have been used when she bought The Gate) and her 1 coin and counted it as 6…but it was actually only 5. Also, she didn’t use her -2 from the Sanctuary. Is that only meant to be used once? Bottom line is, Baal should have cost her 2 or 4 coins and she only paid 1.

@@KALMTieDyes At 29:44, when Glai buys Baal, Glai has -5 in tokens (including the one that should have been spent on the Gate). There is one -3 and another -2. Baal should cost her 6 coins, so the 1 coin that she pays brings her up to 6. Also, as you mentioned, she also should have had a -2 because of her permanent discount from the Sanctuary, so it kind of balances out the earlier mistake! :)
Yes…I thought all of the tokens were -2 but upon playing our first game I see they are -2, -3 and -4. My husband and I just played our first game…played all the way through to Civilian Scoring. I had 60 points. He had 61!!! He had all Three Temple Cards from Age III which sealed the deal for him. One quick question…the only points you score for Deity cards are those actually indicated on the cards, correct? What I mean is, we didn’t score a point for each Divinity Card we had, or for each Divinity Token we had. Actually, I had the special Pantheon token that awarded me one point for each Divinity Token I had, but is that the only time you would get points for those is if you have that special token?
@@KALMTieDyes Wow! That was a very close game! Getting all three Temple Cards from Age III is huge. That is a lot of points. You were correct not to score points just for having Deity cards. I think it is only Aphrodite and Astarte that will give you bonus points at the end. You would also score points for any Mythology and Offering tokens you have if you got the "Mysticism" Progress token, but if you did not have that then there are no bonus points for just having the tokens. I believe Mysticism gives you 2 points for each token you have.
Question: In the base game, once a player builds his 4th wonder, the opponent becomes limited to build only 3 of his 4 wonders. With this expansion and the possibility to steal a wonder card, how would that be take into account? Can you build all the 5 wonders or are you still limited to 4 max even if you have stolen a 5th?
Hello. The way that it is phrased in the rulebook is "Only 7 Wonders may be built over the course of the game. As soon as either player constructs the game’s 7th Wonder, the last Wonder, which has not yet been built, is immediately returned to the box." So, it is not that you are limited to building a maximum of 4, but it is a case that no more than 7 Wonders can be constructed during the game. So if you steal a Wonder, this means that it would indeed be possible to build 5 Wonders, as long as your opponent has not built more than 2. Hope this helps!
