This has to be one of the saddest ways to lose ur kid. Couldn't even imagine telling this story to other people if it was my kid, I'd cry like a baby everytime. The thought of the sand collapsing on her and the helpless feeling trying to dig her out in time tears me apart.
It doesn't make it better or any less worse. In any way. But for claritys sake. She likely did not suffer. These cave ins ussually crush their victums to death. So fast they barely have time to realize how bad it is. I used to love digging holes like this until someone told me this could happen.
Go read the OSHA guidelines on digging and excavation. There is so much that regular people should understand about collapses like this. This is much more dangerous than they're indicating
Kids were having fun digging in the sand on the beach. We have all been there. Mother nature is powerful. RIP. I was lucky, in the 70's me and my friend dug up a land mine on the beach. OSHA ?
My husband of 30 years was a sailor and we were always stationed close to the beaches. We taught out kids from an early age not to dig a deep hole in the sand and to make sure they fill in any holes that they dig. Such a tragedy that should not have happened.
Sand is not stable, but wow...... I doubt this family ever would have imagined something like this happening... My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
That surely gives to the notion that death can come to anyone at any time in ways our minds never imagine!!! That is why prayer and giving thanks for life is so precious and important now more than ever!! May these children rest in peace!
@@Leo88vignorance is common, I’ve grown up and spent over half a century on the beautiful sands of the gulf coast, and never once heard of sand safety, not one time - only water , and tide .. look how many sand digging contest- and of course yes, not to disturb sand dunes, bc of wildlife, but never once a dug hole like this becoming an avalanche- so, ignorance is very common, and that’s something we can change at least
Why would the family not have imagined this happening! It’s happened loads of times, it’s more like the family should have prevented those two kids from digging a big deep hole in the first place!!
I'm old now but I used to do that when I was kid. Even my own children used to to that maybe not to deep ...never knew it could happen. Guess no place is safe! So sorry for the family who lost a little princess 🥲
I so much agree!!! No one is safe from death in any capacity!!! It can come from anywhere and at any time when we least expect it to happen!! I don't think I have ever heard someone dying from sand caving under them on a beach!!! This one takes the cake!!
@@damionbarrett4403 actually that one ‘doesn’t take the cake’ it’s happened so many times on beaches around the World, not just kids either, adults who should know better have died doing the same thing.
Lord bring this child in to your kingdom and put her parents heart at ease for they are for sure in pain.....god bless this child with open arms and into your hold kingdom and heal her as well and allow her into everlasting life and I pray for her brother who came face to face with death and with mysterious wonders and great honor he is still here with us bless all the souls involved for no one deserves what happen at all and I pray everyone will be ok n Jesus name Amen.
They dug such a massive hole because A. The parent(s) helped them OR B. The parents paid no attention whatsoever to what their kids were doing!! Either way the parent(s) must take responsibility for this tragic event. I can’t say ‘accident’ because it was inevitable that digging down that deep renders the upper sand unstable, especially if it’s very dry sand. Young kids wouldn’t obv know this, hence why the parent(s) should take responsiblity!
I can't imagine going on vacation or just a trip to the beach where you live, and this happens. OMG. My only Sister lost her only children, two boys. First one died in a Quad accident at the age of 14 and her second Son who was a Marine coming home on leave before deploying to Afghanistan, died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 19, just eight years after His Big Brother. That's left Our Family devastated and has changed our lives forever. I really have no idea how My Sister has carried on somehow. GOD BLESS this Family and May HE Wrap Them in His Loving Arms.😢😢😢😢😢😮😮😮😭😨😞😳😳
Rehobeth beach has all but stopped these kind of death. We have posted city ordinance sign on all beaches you cant go over 2 feet deep if you are seen digging deeper you can be fined (and its a big fine) and it depends if the officer want to arrest if its really big. We had teenagers for kicks digging 6 to 8 feet deep holes on the beach and tourist would walk along the beach at night and fall in them and die.
Great, that's all we need is more government involvement in our lives. Life is scary, but I draw the line at taking people's freedom away. Obviously this little were not digging 10 foot holes, so your ordinances would of done nothing. Maybe ppl should just not drive a car
@@frontlinemedia4270I’m all for small government but there has to be rules. It’s not right for a person to dig a deep hole and then someone else who had nothing to do with that hole, come falls in it and dies. There are oppressive rules and there are rules of general safety.
Can’t imagine going on vacation and leaving with one less…just so sad. I don’t know if the sand crushed their rib cages and they suffocated but I hope the brother can make a full recovery. It must’ve been very painful. I get anxiety thinking about not being able to take a deep breath. Rip lil angel.
Ive lived in Fl for almost all my live and was born in the Caribbean never heard of this ever happening but then again ive never gone to the beach in february no matter how hot it is maybe it happens during ceratin seasons idk... rip to that little angel 💔
I've seen a program about the very same thing. The beach sand has pockets of open space below the sand & digging over one of those areas can cause the sand to completely cave in on itself. The person digging over that area can go with the sand when it caves in. The story I saw on TV was about a little boy that was walking over the sand when it gave way & he sunk completely down into the hole. He was rescued alive, however, it was a very harrowing experience for the little guy! Rightfully so!!
It can be likened to a snow avalanche, except that it involves wet beach sand. In such a scenario, it makes little difference whether the parents were directly above the individual or not. The sheer weight of the sand exerts immense pressure, leading to the expulsion of air from the lungs and the onset of asphyxiation. For both adults and children, the process is swift, and it is likely that the parents were either in close proximity or right next to the individual. However, considering that the boy's head was above ground, it is possible that he attempted to climb up before the sand caved in. Regardless of the precise location of the guardians, the situation is undoubtedly tragic.
@@Rivanni1 aka Terri Willett Fascinating explanation of the properties of sand. (Which diverts some minds from my original question.) Where were the 'supervising adult(s)'? And, what were they doing as their daughter dug a deep hole? If you don't know, then that's your answer. Enough with the excuses. The goal should be to educate others and to prevent future tragedies, instead of '... there's nothing that could've prevented this unforeseen accident.' Regardless if a parent was in the pit or not, common sense should've prevailed. You don't dig a hole so deep that you can't get out of it. Especially, when the walls are NOT fortified to prevent collapsing.
@pvt.2426 I understand your curiosity, but I must say that I find your tone to be somewhat insensitive. I have looked into the matter you mentioned, and it appears that the children were indeed very close to them-approximately 12 feet or less, as reported by The Insider. The parents of the children immediately began digging and calling for help, but it took 15 minutes to free them. Tragically, only the boy survived, while the girl was crushed and suffocated. I hope that satisfies you and doesn't divert attention. Also, the hole would only need to be four or so feet deep, but you can look that up on your own time. I'm going back to work.
@@Rivanni1 Terri, a few things to address. [1] When I receive a 'Notification' from RU-vid, it says Terri Willett has replied. However, when I click on your reply to read it, then something strange happens. It shows 'Rivanni' instead. (I've never noticed this happening before and I thought you should know this.) [2] Your opinion of my alleged 'somewhat insensitive' nature is mischaracterized. What you're experiencing is my 'objectivity'. As a professional consultant, I routinely use my analytical training skills and see things through an 'objective lens'. These skills include my ability to focus on what matters, an eye for details, and not lose sight of 'the 'big picture'. (Which, I often foresee accurately before it happens. This comes from experience.) [3] My original posted commentary or assessment was based SOLELY on the content of THAT posted video. No other outside sources or materials were researched. And, I recognized that the reporting was lacking in 'investigative & analytical journalism'. Instead of giving viewers 'objective & relevant information', so we (as intelligent human beings) may decide for ourselves, what to think or feel, the media decided to control the narrative and manipulate your reaction. For example, if the story was about a 'house fire' and a cat + her kittens didn't survive. Their narrative was focused on the poor kitties and presented for consumption as a 'tear-jerker'. I also feel sorry for the cats. But, I am independent enough of their mind-control to think, 'What caused the fire?', 'Allowing a child to put a space heater near her pet's bed, which was by flammable drapes, wasn't a great idea.' [4] What happened to this little girl was tragic, but it was avoidable. Her parents will regrettably live with their mistake for the rest of their lives. Please don't spend any more of your valuable time researching for relevant details that the original video lacked. (Which was my point.)
I heard that in Ocean City, MD several years ago. That two kids made a hole and a bridge out of sand they stepped on the bridge and both fell into the hole and died instantly. I was told that they inhale the sand while trying to breathe and die instantly. They were not found right away. They had a 4 hour drive back home without 2 of the children.
I love this idea! Creative and safe! I recalled the young girl and brother who dug a deep hole in the sand. Her 9 yo brother got out alive. His 7 yo sister did not make it. Such a horrific tragedy.
Where were her parents? Was it possible that there was no one to ensure that the children did not make deep holes in the sand? Sad sad sad news, I'm so sad for this girl, she was 7 years old 🙏
I think a lot of us don't know that it's not okay to dig deep holes, especially if we don't live near a beach like this family didn't. It sounds like the parents and many people were right there and nobody knew to stop them from digging.
This is a heartbreaking tragedy. My condolences to Sloan's family. I pray for their comfort and peace. Especially I pray for her brother. This will stay with him the rest of his life. May Sloan rest in peace dear Lord.
@@CuttinBlade Can't understand how a parent let their kids dig a 5-foot hole. Or a lifeguard would have warned them etc. Or lifeguards no longer necessary on beaches?
She was probably digging straight down in damp sand. It'll hold an edge like that for a little bit, but when it goes, it's like a hard wave. It most likely knocked her over. I'd bet they got about 3 feet down before it collapsed.
I attempted this as teenager, sand piles up real quick around your feet, luckily I had the wherewithal to realize the danger and wiggled out, went back to flinging myself off 6ft jumps on the motorcycle, its safer. --and for the feller who may want say I don't know what I'm talking about, again... its my sandbox and I throw sand!
Omg really cute but super dangerous to dig this deep a 7 year old little girl died here in Florida on vacation with her family after her and her brother were digging, the sand collapsed and pulled her under. Her brother survived but many people tried to save her but couldn’t. Super sad.
My deepest condolences to her family and those who were trying so desperately to dig her out in time. I can't imagine losing a child under any circumstances, but this one is so tragic as to add to the sorrow. Praying that the Lord will be with them and comfort them somehow as they brave a future without their precious daughter.
Exactly. My kids went to the beach and after an hour wanted to swim in the pool and snack. This is such a freak accident it’s just awful. I hope the lil boy will be ok and not blame himself.
They warn people of digging holes in the beach and how many succumb to the holes. In north Florida you get a citation for digging holes bc it is so dangerous
@@major_kukri2430 that isn’t emotions, that’s fact! Those idiotic parents had their kids in mortal danger there. It happens on beaches around the World all the time, kids end up in the sea out of their depth, meanwhile some parents are sitting sunning themselves with no idea where their kids are!! The tragedy is….some parents don’t take responsibility for where their kids are or what they’re doing until it’s too late!
@irenemcgrath7739 you're assuming this is negligence rather than a freak accident that anyone and everyone could have foreseen. It isn't. There's no prosecutor who would want to take 2 grieving parents to court over this, too. That would look so heartless. I know you want "justice" for the little girl, but are you willing to drive a grieving parent to suicide to get it over an accident? Because that's all that's going to happen here.
Exactly. How many people live in Florida and California and have never even heard of something like this. Most people would know not to let their kids dig a hole that deep.
Supervision? What's your definition? And your username tells me you're an AI bot sent to stir up conversation and bring out the truly compassionate into needless wasted minutes arguing with you.
@elizabethg6199 supervision.. it's called watching your children so they do not get into situations like this. Common sense is my definition of supervision. You have anything else to add?
