Local lifeguards and the American Lifeguard Association (AFA) warned against digging holes in loose sand after a 7-year-old girl died Tuesday in South Florida after being buried in the sand.
Common sense out the door. You mean to say no bystanders reacted seeing two feral kids standing less than 4 ft digging down a beach sand 5 to 6 feet deep. Thats digging your own grave yard for heavens sake.
I know...I don't get the parents or bystanders not saying anything. 6' is the height of a grown tallish man. People think it's normal for kids to be digging holes that deep? I think my limit of depth seeing a child OR adult digging on a beach might be 3 feet MAX. Good Lord.
@@durango8882Right anyone who has ever interacted with sand knows that when you dig some up, some slides down the side, it's how sand is, even wet sand, it's not like dirt where you can compact the dirt you took out to prevent it from falling back in, two young kids digging would not get that deep without help.
"3 to 5 children each year die from digging and collapsing holes!" I NEVER heard such a thing and I'm 61 years old! Common sense tells me that it wouldn't be safe, but WHY aren't there more warnings and lifeguards STOPPING the digging?
Two children digging a hole that deep seems strange! Are you sure there were only 2 young children digging? This seems like a deep hole , dug by two small children.
I can't even imagine what the parents had to witness, and what an absolute horrible memory they'll forever carry of this 2024 vacation! All the excitement and happiness they must have had and talked about when planning and on their way to Ft. Lauderdale, and then this tragedy. Bless them!
Just stop digging holes at the beach and nobody has to die that all. Sometimes we allow our fun idea to be more important than our safety. So heartbreaking this child died for something so preventable they almost lost both kids.
No, no no. Holes can collapse in soils which seem extremely solid, and you can't trust sand just because it's compact. Don't dig deep holes. One foot ought to be deep enough. Then make a sand castle.
My sympathy for the little kids. But must people dig holes in the sand? Can't they find other things fun to do? Weren't there not responsible adult with sense to warn them? This is just stupid and annoying! With all these publicity it's sad that this still happens.
sloan mattingly, 7, died because no one watching her & brother, maddox mattingly, 9, who had lived. where were her parents? if a babysitter had been in care of the 2 children, criminal charges would had been filed by now.
I never let my kid dig more than a few inches and i do not let them bury themselves. Parents should have sense and be alert on all issues that can take away childs lives.
This is The United States of America. Feet and inches is the way we have always done things here. If you don't like our way of doing things, don't watch news from our country. Get over yourself.
