Looks great. I think you used good logic in your mounting decision. I had to replace the stock steering damper on my ZR/2 at about 85K miles. I only have one but it does make a difference. I think they are needed with big tires to counter harmonic wobble and of course...bump steer. When you change the steering box, check the mount holes in the frame for cracks/slits, the late 60's Chevy trucks and a few years later the K5 Blazers all had that problem thru the square body years. Since you have the skill and means, I'd be tempted to put a doubler in there.

I haven't looked for cracks but I know even the 73-87 had some cracking by the steering box sometimes. I was driving it today and it's not bad at all. I think I am going to call the steering good. It runs pretty straight I think. I don't know about the alignment. That could be off. I have other things to work on right now. Trying to get dads car mostly done so we can drive it this year.

@@mossman381 The Camaro yes? Looking fwd to it. The 70 pickup steering box comment in the video just triggered a "oh no!" memory.

I had a few of the 73-87 trucks but never had a cracked frame by the steering box.

@@mossman381 3" lifted 72 K5 Blazer, Had huge Armstrong Tru-Trac's on it. Started getting steering play to the point of 1/2 turn of free wheel. 2 bolts had pulled through the frame and the whole steering box was swinging in and out from the frame. Removed steering box, beat everything back into position, stop drilled cracks, welded cracks. Made an 1/8" black iron doubler for frame, new bolts, better than new.

Your tie Rod bar is on wrong, that’s why yours sits high and you have no clearance between your leaf springs

It's not wrong. That is the way it goes.

Are the shocks fully open or closed when mounting

What is the kit part number because I had to put my bracket on the bottom because it interferes with the tie rod where the factory stabilizer shock mounts dead center instead of it being at the edge. Causes it to act like it has a bent frame and binds the steering. A guy named Chris pettit at skyjacker said they know of this issue. So it's advertised as fitting 73 to 87 but it does not fit as they say it will.

I have the kit I used linked in the description and comment section. 8220 I think is the part number.

@@mossman381 yeah my kit number is 7220. I think the only difference is yours is black and mine is red and white. But I was running into the same issues you were with it not being level but my tie rod has the factory stabilizer shock where it bolts in the middle so it kicks up a little bit and when I put that mount on top the tie rod rubs on it and binds the. Skyjacker tried to tell me I had the wrong part but I don't it's factory on a 76 K20. But I flipped the bracket upside-down I was already thinking of that before I watched your video and it works great I have full starting now. Thank you very much.

Well you have probably figured out by now that you should have pulled the shock out to it’s furthest distance to the left of the steering linkage so you don’t have to angle the brackets
@vernonhayes5836
@vernonhayes5836 Год назад
That doesn't work on my truck either which is a 1980 K20. And in fact the skyjacker 7220 kit has clearance issues and affects my handling in a negative way because although they say it will fit 73 to 87? It doesn't accommodate for a tie rod that has the factory stabilizer shock mount in the center it binds on that and messes with my steering. And they are gaped at a certain length and that is 19 in from center to center on the end so you cannot extend them out to Max travel this is per manufacturer's instructions.
