There's an old Bonneville with a 455 up at our old farm. I stuck a battery in it close to 20 years ago and it wasn't locked up. I need to go up there and get it sometime and see. Would make a good cold start.
I had a 1070 Catalina. This video reminded me of it. Mine was gold like this, but had a white convertible top. Ran a 400 c.i motor. It rode like being on a cloud. Mine started a lot better. Ha Ha
Glad to see that you have no intentions to junk it and will give it a new lease on life. I recommend you leave it totally as is.....bring it to my Cars and Coffee next Saturday and Jay Leno will freak.....it will get more attention and love than my new Lamborghini Huracan.
ha, aint it a blast firing them up, so we both did 31 year old cold starts, today, but yours drove kinda, cant think of a much better way to spend an afternoon
todd riley It sat in a junkyard for 31 yrs and took a couple crazy hillbillies like us to drag it out and get it running again. I thought I should at least save the 360 hp 455!
I recently bought one of these. Same car only a two door, and rusted beyond help for 50.00...turns out the 455 in there is a 4 bolt main, H.O. motor!...people who knew the car, tell me it used to terrorize the neighborhood in it's day...I'm getting it ready for my 67 Goat!
Got one just like it...mine is a two door convertible same color. Been sitting in the barn for close to 20 years now. Used to be our daily driver. Owned since '89...someday I'll get back to it.
Nothing like 1970, My oldest Sister had a boy friend who had that same old beast, except his Grand Prix was a Blue 2 door with the 455, and yes it would FLY!!!
That Beautiful sound of the 455 starting up after 31 years is Sweet. Gives me confidence when I take a video of my Trans Am trying to start up after sitting for 30 years with the 400.
Reminds me of my Grandpa giving me a 1970 Pontiac Executive with a 400 2 BBL in 1986. A tree limb came down & busted the windshield out in 1985. Instead of fixing it; he buys another vehicle. So I start & run this car every 2 to 4 weeks for about a year or so. God, I loved that old car; that was till I got in the pickup truck buying mood. I'm still sick over getting rid of that fine automobile!
Haha, that reminds me of an old buddy back in the 70's. He had a '69 Bonneville Convertible in about the same condition. He loved the whole car. Boy, he thought that was one beautiful automobile. It was, when it was new. I agree, take the engine and tranny. LMAO
That brought back memories as I once owned a blue '70 Catalina four-door myself. It had a 350 2-barrel and ran pretty good for a 19'+ sedan! It would wallow like a ship in rough seas at 110mph...
Nice job guys! I have been trying to get my old 1948 Willy's going but the carb is so clogged up that it wouldn't take any fuel into the bowl. But it makes for good videos. Congrats on getting yet another piece of automotive history back on the road.
It's unfortunate, it's getting scrapped after the engine gets pulled. It definitely looks like it could be saved even though it's a 4-Door they are starting to become more popular.
Great video... Thanks for doing it..... Only thing that would have made it better..... And just a suggestion mind you...... Is if sparks were there and if he jumped up on the fender of that ol Pontiac and put hid tail in ur face while you were force feeding gas...lol....I would have paid money to see that Blaa ha ha ha !! Take care!!!
I always liked the grill and headlights on that year. If it was a 2dr with the 455 I would restore it. Otherwise - I had a 76 Catilina wagon back in the day that I used to pull my stock car and trailer with until I got a good deal on a truck . Then I pulled the 455 out of the wagon and dropped it in a 77 TA that I got cheap because it had a blown 400. I had so much fun with that thing I was putting tires on the back every month .I couldn't resist doing burnouts and doughnuts. I could think of plenty of fun things to do with a 455. LOL
Not that familiar with the '70 Bonnies. We had a '72 Catalina with a 400 in it. If that is a 455 I'd rip it out and rebuild it. Starter Bendix is dying BTW. Put the 455 in the 'bird.Um AND a '63 Catalina with a 389. And a '66 Grand Prix with a 389/4bbl.Love my Pontiacs! '95 SE GP in the driveway now with less than 40,000 miles. '99 GTP with 70,000. '05 GT2 with 25,000...
0:45 "455 what are your plans. I mean... you know... this is ( something?) junk it ." ( Yeah I missed some waords at the end. My english is not that good) Only use that motor? Come ooooon this car is freakin' awesome !!! Seriously.
Funny and sad at same time. Bonnie’s were a class act...good looking with luxury and performance. I would have been proud to drive a gold 4 door hardtop 455 Bonnie...skirts would have been icing
Set the choke closed cold. Set the fast idle warm and idle warm. Set the timing warm. Check the accelerator pump. Put gas down the carburetor before starting. Check for spark. Charge the battery full! Clean the plugs.
Love those pontiacs torque monsters lol took a 455 out of a 73 grand prix put it in a 73 square body chevy pu talk about a tire melter i used to stop at my local junkyard every fri for tires for the weekend so i didnt ruin my good ones lol
I had a 67' Catalina I bought for $400. It sat in a Illinois barn for about 10 years. It had over 683,000 miles, I replaced the battery, spark plugs, vacuum modulator and rear main oil seal. It ran like a champ after that
The 70 Pontiac was built at a time when American car designs were unique from cars from the rest of the world unlike today's cheap materials cookie cutter cars that all look the same.
I had the same engine & transmission in a '57 GMC. I built mine with a mid-range cam, 'solid state' points eliminator kit, re-curved the ignition timing with a springs & weights kit, and I put a shift kit in the transmission. And of course I had some headers made to fit around the steering box. All in all it was very little work but the power that combination made was terrifying! Good luck with your project.
i had a 1973 Pontiac Grandville with the same 455 cu engine. Mine sounded a bit better than that one but it wasn't sitting for 31 years. Great video and great triumph for an old cold start
How much fun do you think an old 455 with a Muncie 4 speed would be in an old Nova or Vega...that could really be a sick swap for an old lighter chassis. Tire fire for yards...
Boosted B Series EK you wouldn't be able to keep clutches in it tires on it or gas in the tank but you would have fun!You would not endear yourself to the local constabulary, though.
I have that same car I inherited from grandma mine is green mine is in way better shape my grandpa bought it new for grandma he drove the hell out of I when she let him then he putted around in his 71 Chevrolet pickup he stopped driving in 1979 because of alzheimers and grandma drove the old 71 pick most of the time on its 3rd engine then in 2003 she whet to the nursing home because of a broken hip so that car sat from 2003 until 2007 when my dad and aunt decided to clean out her place grandma liked the Bonneville it was for good she said only drove it to church and when there was something wrong with her pick up. O buy the way my dad and mom took it out on there first date I think that is cool
im not aware of a crisis.. my videos have never made much money.. bout a hundred a month.. but that buys my welding supplies.. well.. depending on how many times I take something apart and reweld it. haha..
I love how these guys fill the float bowl with a funnel!!!!!! I found the easiest way was to just put the hose in a soda bottle at one end and over the vent tube... then just blow into the bottle and ..... voila...... works like a charm and never wastes any gas
When I saw that funnel and hose and the soup dripping down I thought, I've seen this somewhere before. lol I refrained from saying, "What could...etc."
Ol Bonnie was rode real hard and put up wet. I f you found one here in ohio, she'd be crusty and rotted out. It's amazing what rust free iron is out your way.
