Anyone after the 90s just don't know what they've missed....late 70sEarly 80s was a great time growing up...U had Mods/Skins/Punks/Teds.....know you have nothing....No cultural identity....U went out to look good back then...that was the Botton.....LOOOOKING GREAAT!!!!!!.....I DO MISS'EM🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
I think that too mate. Back then there were all sorts. Now everyone's the same bland X-Factor idolising wankers. My first holiday without mum & dad was to some crappy caravan park in Great Yarmouth with a mix of lovely non racist skins and two of us punks. We all had a right good laugh.
I was born in 2001 but I’ve always liked 70´s 80´s and 90’s music styles : punk rock, ska, rock steaddy beat, And I would have loved to live in these eras
Been a skin since 79. It never leaves you and the only memories are good ones. Especially the bad memories, they were some of the best. Skinhead for life
I was a very young Skinhead in 1969 and it stuck with me ever since, even when I was in the army, even to this day 50 years later, still wear the jeans and docs, I have an old pair stored away that was bought in 1972, and still have the old ska records and Slade who were very popular with skins early 70s this style will still be around in another 50 years.
a w the music was main. Mostly reggae, trojan label, some great Jamaican artists, Desmond Decor, Johnny Holt to name a few. Loads of Ben Sherman, Brutus checkered shirts back in the day.
1969 to 1972 skins had the classic look. I remember the look of them scared the shit out of me as a 9 year old kid. The girls had great feather cuts and the boys in Crombies, boots & braces. Such a fkn great look.
THIS IS WHAT YOUTHS WAS ABOUT GREAT FASHION AND GREAT MUSIC NOT LIKE TODAY RUBBISH 70s AND 80s WERE THE BEST TIMES PROUD TO BE BRITISH SKINS AND PUNK MUSIC WAS JUST FUCKING BRILLIANT

@@joehart7260 Aye probably pal. I was only their fe a year so maybe i missed it or came a bit later. Only names i heard was peanuts and Skinheads. And pansy's. That was my grandads name fe us ....😉😁
Make you right. Seem to remember being called 'Hard nuts & Peanut head' before you ever heard the name skinhead. Also seem to remember being called 'Suede head' before The word Skinhead become the norm in around 69/70 after music like Skinhead Moonstomp & the Skinhead books became popular.
Good lord mate.. even if you are wp, you have to admit skinhead was not all white.. .I met a half caste Brit Jamaican skinhead when I had to live in a kids home in 87. We were both 15 at tine. He ran with Hereford skins. He was one of the first friends I made in Worcester and I was only there 3 yrs..
What I remember about the early Skinhead generation '68/72 was just how young most of them were. Mainly all around 10 to 16 year old working class lads. In those days as son as you left school (& youth clubs) then you would have to dress appropriately for work or change style because you was getting married!!!
@@billymoffat4744 What are you talking about? Codes for laces started in Brum & London in 1978 long before the Americans even heard of skins. And the codes were exactly how I mentioned them in my first post. Any old time 70's skin knows the score and would back me 100% on that one. You obviously have no idea what you're on about son.
Early 70's skins were the real deal born from the 60's suedeheads plus early the Jamaican influx into Britain and their style of clothing and obviously the early ska and reggae tunes formed the backbone of what it was to be a skinhead. The late 70's saw the right wing party (NF) influencing what was then a generation of skins that loved football hooliganism and an idiotic right wing philosophy - which contradicted the originality of what being a skinhead was all about.
@@robertroberts2666 in other words, you are a Nazi traitor someone my grandfather fought against to keep Britain great. Get out of my county you muppet.
Dear o dear you really don't know what you're talking about. I was around in the 70's and 80's and one thing I know is the Suedeheads came after the Skinheads, and also right wing politics and certainly football hooliganism played a part in the culture in the early 70's. The right wing element was definitely worse in the 80's but the NF did recruit a fair few Skinheads from about 1970. Also the bashing of South Asians and Hippies was like a sport among the original Skinheads.
The song is by The Disrupters, an early 80's Punk band. Skinheads didn't have their own music in 68-73 as you probably remember. it wasn't til the late 70's that Skinheads formed their own bands and started to have their own music.
@@wolflarson6831 Early Slade attempted to be a 'recognised Skinhead band' but it wasn't accepted by the media at the time. In a way you are right about Skinheads not owning their own music preferring to listen to mainly Jamaican/reggae sound instead. There were song's referencing skinheads in '69.
late 70's early 80's they got along with many mixed bands, half punks and half skins so called Skunx, bands like Blitz, Anti Social, Attak, Ejected, Crux, Infa Riot, Violators and many more had both punks and skins followers. Earlier bands Like Sham 69, Menace, Angelic Upstarts, Cock Sparrer and Cockney were originally punk rock bands with Skinehads following, but no Skinhead outlook. By 1983 /1984 the two scenes split apart because politic issues had become heavy influential, so no more shows with both punk/hardcore and OI! bands on the same bill. Also bands like Exploited, One Way System, Peter & The Test Tube Babies were considered almost OI! bands, then you had the Crust Anarcho Punks scene of the like of Crass, Amebix, Conflict...another thing...
Miss all the music and youth scenes from late 70s/mid 80s and sad thing is the we still have 1990 Chavs and Gansta Rap as a on going youth fashion scene :(
@@hellhound9027 you're a fucking idiot then if you take insult so easy especially as a yank that only knows part of the story. Hope that's insulting enough for your ignorance.... American idiot as usual. Sorry, it must be hard being seen in that light by most of the rational world... don't get upset... but don't act like a fucking fool. You're your own worst enemy.
That's because the word 'Skinhead' has been taken over by the media to be shorthand for right wing politics, racism...so you'll have that concept in your mind. The original skinheads were working class and in 1960-70's Britain that included lots of Jamaican families. Hence Ska music is based on reggae. No racism from Trad Skins.
@@76navan You fucking idiot Skinheads was born out of the end of mod movement , when the mod movement started to drop off the posh middle class mods went the hippie route where the working class mods became Skinheads ,if you noticed a lot of the styles ie: in the some of clothing and music was the same as mods .
I wa a skinhead in 1969.I was 17.Good days n clothes n music. But this music u played was more like punk.. Not true skin music. OH still am a skinhead at 66 .It never goes u was part of something special.in them days.

Things have evolve since the 60's you know. I have never meet a skinhead over the last 30 years that didnt have a handful of punk/Oi records in their record collection.
Skinheads don't listen to Punk, wow that's a new one. So, all the Skinheads who have been listening to Punk music since 1977 are what figments of the imagination? Glad there is still people like you in the scene writing rules for everyone else.
@@wolflarson6831 I was referring to the original skins who started in the late sixties and early seventies. I’m not stupid enough to think that the later ones didn’t listen to punk. I was there in 76 when punk started.
@@Mod-rw9cw Then why even make your original comment? The title of the video is 70's/80's English Skinheads. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to think 60's Skinheads listened to Punk. I am old and remember 76 as well, as if that matters.

Great images but it would be a whole lot better with a Skin/Oi band sound track instead of the song you used which is anarko punk band The Disrupters Shelters for the rich. Sham 69 Borstal break out or Anjelic Upstarts 2 million voices.
I agree should of been Sham, Angelic s or Cockneys. Or even just some 2tone. I thought the tune was from Acid Attack. The early anarcho styles were pretty similar no doubt
Some great pics. I didn't go skin til 88-89. Lucky enough to remember the 80s well though. Last great era for music and subcultures no doubt bout that. The tune is an old Acid Attack song isn't it?
american skin here i was a skin from 1990 and hung out till 2003 i laced up 14 hole boots for a long time,i moved away from where all the pubs and taverns and it was too far to drink and drive so i had to quit hanging out, plus my best friend screwed me over,we were a horrible group of skins i liked ska and there were some that did but most liked oi and i didnt really care for it,but anyways after being a skin that long it never leaves your heart you know.we used to have order our shirts from the merc in london way back then and now here in the states god the prices on everything is pathetic due to a piece of crap liberal president, but the 80's and 90's were the best times ever, the computer came along and destroyed this planet and cell phones with video well that destroyed everything i used to love to fight and win but you cant do that these days people video and show it to the damn police,so yea im still pissed as always,i took being a skin serious,if i saw a fresh cut i would test im out,so many new people would show up like it was ok but not to me and some were skins one week then punks the next and still wearing braces umm HELL NO i jumped down their throat over that, till this day if i see someone in a fred thats not a skin i get mad.yes i was known as the mean asshole skinhead of the bunch i liked to fight, there were times when i was fighting a crowd and i looked and saw people in my crew just standing there, pshhh thats not acceptable to me one bit,so call me an asshole at least i took it serious and always will even though i dont hang out and drink anymore.cheers

Skins listened to all sorts, not just Oi! and 2Tone, it was the energy of music. I knew lots of Skins who liked Hard Rock, Metal, Soul and other types of music.
the disrupters was non-political (hated all politics), was labelled anarcho because they had a demo song on a crass records compilation. the band never labelled themselves as anarcho. norwich punk band.
My uncle and his gang use to beat up skinheads for fun, they eventually grew their hair and the “baldie bashing” stopped because there was no skinheads to beat up, most grew their hair back out of fear of attacks.
Cool story bro! What time period? City? Country? Did they pick on loners when they were 12-1? Did they use weapons? Who were these skinheads that they 'beat up'-just non political ones? Nazis? Or did the gang didnt even know?
