artcm555 Are you Japanese? In fact, my friend-an old Japanese man has introduced me to watch this video, he gave me a link and then I came to see. This is interesting. thanks!
It was nice to see the old analogue watch is keeping Japan's bullet trains on time and combined with the skill of the driver it's no wonder they are always on time. Well done !!!!🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🚄🚄👏👏👏
I enjoyed the cab ride on the Shinkansen. However I have a question about these trains. Does the Shinkansen have a speed set control on them? As the UK trains like the Class 90, Class 91, Class 92, Class 180 and the Class 390 as well as most newer trains have. Its a feature that works a bit like a cruise control and eliminates the need to constantly adjust the power to maintain speed. Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer my question about these impressive trains that are in Japan.
Yes everything is cruise controlled. The operators are duplicating the actions. Watch her check the speed and the track signs to make sure they are within limits. Also the train automatically stops when the tsunami and earthquake sensors in the track bed sound the alarm. In otherwords, they have layers of control from the routine to the emergency.
I can see 12 year old girl watching this video salivating and saying to herself, "I'll do anything to get this job!" Pointing and voicing what he or she's checking is considered silly and the first thing on the list to be over looked by other countries but it's actually quite effective. It's been proven by the research and the record proves it. Other countries start doing this only after a big accident happens.
I'm a former railroad engineman (USA.) Calling and pointing is effective. We only would call signals. However...After watching a number of RU-vid clips of Japan's railroads I've been pointing while driving. It helps quite a bit, especially at age 66. I have great respect for all the JR, and private company train crews I've been watching.
mynorthshore says: "I'm a former railroad engineman (USA.)........" == It's nice to hear the real experienced opinion. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointing_and_calling "A 1994 study by the Railway Technical Research Institute showed that pointing and calling reduced mistakes by almost 85 percent when doing a simple task."
Levent C Mirlay says" "but I feel that you could be too busy with pointing and calling too really concentrate." == Do you think the lady in the video helps making your point? Does she look destructed by doing that? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointing_and_calling "A 1994 study by the Railway Technical Research Institute showed that pointing and calling reduced mistakes by almost 85 percent when doing a simple task." My original comment, "Pointing and voicing what he or she's checking is considered silly and the first thing on the list to be over looked by other countries......" See, who I was talking about? What's the safety record in Germany or Iran? Wttps://www.japantoday.com/category/kuchikomi/view/japans-shinkansen-best-in-world-at-safety-punctuality-tech-but-not-marketing
Since I've always admired JR and since I'm quite clumsy, I started doing Pointing and Calling for daily tasks to help me remember what I'm doing. So, when I get off the car I point the doors and call "the door is closed" and this helps me a lot. So, I'm sure that Pointing and Calling really helps in jobs like railroad service, in which you risk that repetitive actions can lead to mistakes. Well, if someone sees me he would think I'm mad, but I don't care, since I'm really mad Ahahah
Joshua Peli says: "Since I've always admired JR and since I'm quite clumsy,...." == Funny, you mentioned. I'm also a clumsy person who forgets things easily. Before I go to sleep I go around my house and make sure every thing turned off, specially the things that may start a fire, and point my finger at them and calling "off", "off'. People would think I'm crazy if they see me doing it. lol
