Again, one of the best reviews out there! I agree with you about the downsides of this dashcam, which are basically what made me go to a different brand. However I have to correct you when you say that the "shoot left" command only films the A pillar of the car. It actually does get the entire left window in the frame. Also the best place to attach this camera is in the middle right under the rear view mirror column. That way it you can film all sides without getting your mirror in the way.
Thank you, you just saved me a lot of money. Every single reviewer is praising the parking guard like crazy, yet not posting a single video that Omni captured in parking guard board.
Mine is Hardwired Mine shuts off when I shut the car off. I have it automatically wired in you know so I can’t take it out. I wish I had known how I would be disgusted by it needing Wi-Fi is not working when I shut the car off easily and return all the stuff. Had I seen this, I would’ve never bought it.
a real review . just what i was looking for . i was suspicious of the fact that all the other reviews only show stock footage of the motion detection AI.
Most honest review I’ve seen yet . I appreciate how you pointed out all the flaws compared to other videos which almost convinced me to purchase . The whole point of wanting this dash cam was for the parking surveillance mode feature and it’s ability to pick up on a potential threat and follow the movements . I thought that feature would be especially helpful during traffic stops but as you pointed out these features are pretty much useless only recording 10secs . It’s a nice camera but it needs to be improved in some of its key features . Could you recommend a dash cam something that’s more improved in all the areas this dash cam fails
Probably the most comprehensive review of the 70mai Omni that I've found. I've been impressed with the features and build quality of 70mai products and when they introduced the Omni, I thought they had nailed it for a camera in the high end of low budget cameras. Although, in Canada the camera with hard wire kit and taxes will run very close to $300.00. I cancelled my intention to purchase the Omni when I learned of all the negative "cons", which you have covered very well. If I can't remove the camera (or an SD card) from the vehicle and download the footage to my desktop computer, that's a NO GO. If the camera only rotates on command and holds for 10 seconds, before returning to the forward default position, that's a NO GO. (It needs to hold the rotated position until it is commanded to do otherwise). If the camera can't save and lock and event, that's a NO GO. If the camera is constantly taking commands from my navigation system, talk radio and passenger conversations, that's a NO GO. All these issues would seem to be resolvable by a software update, but until 70mai makes the changes, that's a NO GO. A final question: Does the 70mai app for a smart phone depend solely upon a bluetooth connection, or does one need to have a data plan active on the phone. My smartphone plan has talk and text only and I rely on my home wifi or outside hotspots to access internet data on my phone. I don't have wifi, for example, when my vehicle is parked in my garage 100 feet from my home.
Brian excellent review. You told us what no other reviewer did! Thanks to your review I didn't bough it as it misses some major functionality. Apparently the AI is ANI (Artificial Non Intelligence) in this generation ;-)
I think everybody should know this won’t work without Wi-Fi in the car so you’re gonna have to add a phone number to your car and put hotspot on your phone and pay extra somewhere. It doesn’t work normally and I like other things in the car. It requires a Wi-Fi signal and I don’t know how that’s gonna work when it’s supposed to be monitoring the car after we turn the key off and take our cell phone into the restaurant.
Thanks for a good review, I have one of their other cameras I bought when I was in China in 2019, (can't change it to English) but it works good. I think I will pass on this one because of it not staying on the left window more than 10 seconds. The SD card thing is also a major concern, If your in an accident and the dash cam gets damaged, all video is lost.
Installed mine approximately 1 week ago. I installed with the hard wire kit, as the Ai parking function was a must. Mine detection function works as 70mai have indicated, to be fair, it’s not missed a beat. Not sure if being in the uk 🇬🇧 would make a difference, I can’t see any reason why it should. Ps, great video content 👍👍👍
Thank you for the great review. I purchased this camera along with its Hardwire kit. However, my car is New, and I'm concerned that making any adjustments to the fuse box might void the warranty. I'm unsure about how to use this camera. If you have any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
I now have Garmin Mini 2’s in all three of my cars. It may not have as many features as other dash cams, but it is very small and discreet, and reliable.
It would be perfect of it sends real-time alerts to your mobile phone with a two-way speaker like we see with home security systems. You listening Amazon and Ring? Oh, by the way, heat is an image sensors worst threat so this black housing will cook the sensor in time after being exposed to prolonged direct sunlight.
oh, real[y? about the sensors. cause i have black casing on my 12yr old dash cam and they still detect motion just fine . this thing , however doesn't. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P4eUZ4AolQs.htmlru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P4eUZ4AolQs.html
Hey Brian, Ok , I had a chance to sit down today a check out your review of the 70mai Camera. First I want to say this was an outstanding review of the camera! You hit on every detail and aspect that I was wondering about. Unfortunately, I didn’t check out your review BEFORE purchasing the camera and now I have 20:08 it. Like I was telling you in my last post, I’m having problems with connecting the camera to my iPhone through the App. I know you threw yours away after the review and that’s fine. I have an appointment next week to go back to my installer who hooked up the Hardwire Kit so the camera could work. He is going to help me connect the camera to the App. Hopefully soon 70mai will do a Firmware update to address the Parking mode feature because this is one of the main reasons I purchased it. Sorry this is so long, just wanted to say thanks for the great review ! Now subscribed to your Channel !
Thanks! When this camera came out I was really excited about it - it seemed so unique. It's really a shame that it doesn't work properly. I haven't watched anyone else's review since I did mine, so I'm not sure what others are experiencing with it. There were other reviews at the time I did mine, but they were all schill reviews that didn't really go into or provide real world info.
@@BrianGreenstone Well , I have watched other peoples Videos and your video is on point with. Haven’t been able to fully connect it yet, but you give me a heads up in your review to get ready for. I’m planning on watching your other Reviews of Dashcams because I’m looking for a camera that records well and has parking surveillance. If a specific Dashcam comes to your mind please let me know. Thanks again for all your help !
Great video Brian, would the parking surveillance be triggered if someone, seeking to key/scratch the car, approached from the back or side of the car?
Well I have this camera, and if they move fast the camera will not pick it up. But if they stand in place for about 15 secs. It will start to record and go back and forth.
Thanks Brian like your review not buying one no micro SD card other issue dealership trade driver need this to go from car to car mount should be a suction cup for fast transport to cars bringing back. Liked it to many flaws major mount and sd card
I have the 128gig one and I love it I didn’t like the price but I mine records around car and in car but you are right it should focus more on a person not only just have a video of them and I never tried plugging to computer and will try but this is the best dash cam I’ve had so far and belt they need to but up a update to fix a lot of people complains like longer emergency videos
Thank you kind sir, you are probably the only one who was brave enough to say the inconvenient truth: the security features of the camera do not work as advertised!
Thanks. Yeah, I don’t know why all of the other reviews tend to gloss over the problems. I guess the other reviewes are too lazy to actually test the thing.
Hi, I was having the same trouble for motion detection, I reached out to 70mai support and this is what they suggest (it worked for me), hope it helps for you. For the motion detection, needs to meet the following conditions to be triggered: 1.There is a suspicious person within three meters in front of the car 2.Active or stay for more than 15 seconds 3.The camera can capture a full body image of the person
I agree with everything u say but the camera should be under your mirror so it has a clear view to the right and I haven’t got my parking mode to work either
I thought about putting it there, but when I did a test positioning it was quickly evident that the giant pill was going to be blocking my view. I had to put it up high where it wouldn’t block anything. I had a bit in the review about that, but it got edited out due to time.
@@BrianGreenstone I rechecked my wiring I have my unit wired in with my aftermarket radio I learned when I disconnect the radio acc the parking mode work on the camera so I’m planning on just running a fuse wire from the battery to see if it fixes the problem later I’ll update u later on this
You need to have a 4G kit hardwire and is not available in the USA til the end of 2023 or early of 2024. That’s the information I received directly from 70mai Omni tech support.
Because you have to install it with hard wire. Motion detection only works when your car is park and engine off. That’s why you need to have it hardwired.
I have no idea why I’m having such a hard time connecting this camera to my iPhone. I have the hard wired kit installed by a professional and I still can’t connect the camera to the app
@@BrianGreenstone I hope you, and everyone else who has experienced these problems with the Omni have sent feedback to 70mai to inform them that they have seriously missed the mark on their new flagship dashcam.
We have prepared the Tutorial on Footage Download of Dash Cam Omni ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QHIkCytWlKY.html to better elaborate the process.
Can you guys explain why only 10sec for shoot left/right ? Will this get a firmware update to be unlimited And also show if parking surveillance actually works or was it exaggerated marketing ?
Imagine if you have a bunch of people in the car and a cop is talking to you on your right and you suddenly say "Shoot right"😮 I think you will be visiting the morgue ptetty soon.
I’ve been looking for any review describing exactly what I’ve been going through. The Omni doesn’t detect motion as intendeds, even though it was set ON. Every time I approached my car and look to see if the lens detected me and followed me, nope! It just look forward and not recording. Btw, i did not enable the ADAS. Maybe it must be activated first and calibrated, then it might just do what it’s intended. Yet to be tested.
@@BrianGreenstone my thought the same as my car has already front radar and lane departure sensor, so I didn’t think I need ADAS to be ON. However, it does have the feature to track people, so I think it does need to be activated and calibrated in order for the motion detection to work. I will try that when I have the time next.
So I enabled ADAS and calibrated it as required. It worked fine with detecting cars too close in front, lane departure, and pedestrians too close in front. Then when put in parking mode with surveillance ON. Motion detection still not working as i walked across in front of it.
BS!!!! This IS NOT a 360cam!!! 360cams take a picture/video 360 deg at the same time. This one is rotating making some 90deg at once. Meaning while the cam records in one direction the action might happen on the other side. So you can easily miss the important moment. Not to mention two or three people walking around your car. Which one will be recorded?!?!? THERFORE THIS IS NOT A 360DEG DASHCAM! DON'T BE FOOLED. Bottom line, despite some interesting features is more or less useless as a security catch-all dashcam. Excellent review BTW!
Brian Greenstone But mine don’t switch to parked mode. The animation of the Maix don’t change to parked mode only filming in forward and the lights don’t turn on. The hardwire kit is installed but i believe is not installed correctly because the cable acc is responsable to turn the camera to parking mode. You see the animation when go to parked mode ?
@@BrianGreenstone Mine now is installed correctly and the motion detection works sometimes. If I push the car the camera starts recording. I have always in Timelapse mode if the motion detection don’t record a incident in my car the Timelapse records because is always recording
He did not mention in the U.S. you can't use the features the hard wire gives. No real time monitoring, and no instant app alert. So you pay exactly what others do but not get the same features. I believe it's a rip off.
@@BrianGreenstone I think he means the 4g hardwire kit that is available in Europe and Asia but not in the US. It's basically what Thinkware and BlackVue use (LTE kit), so you get many real time notifications and features wherever you are.
