These fragrances were so strong back then, you could smell the perfume before you saw the person that was wearing it! So beautiful but so sad that those scents now are shadows of their former selves.
I adored Love's baby soft as a kid. It made me feel grown up but the fragrance was appropriate for a youngster. The old ads are creepy if you haven't seen them. I would have not given it one mind as a child though. Heaven Scent was a popular perfume in Jr. high.
I was an outlier in those days, wearing Chanel No 5 and Oscar de la Renta as a teenager, while my friends wore Charlie and Jovan Musk. But my great love was Opium, so luxurious, so opulent. It was a spectacular fragrance!! And no, the current rendition of the old Opium, while similar, is not the same.
I wore opium in the 80s in Jr. High and got so many compliments. I remember a teacher being upset because it smelled too heavy on her. I don't know why but that one worked for me. I then moved on to Clinique Happy and Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers. I de-evolved ! I prefer less sweet fragrances now. I guess I should retry Opium!
A lighter, creamier, smoother, slightly sweeter dupe for YSL Opium is Café by CofinLuxe (1978). Very airy & skeletal, but not long-lasting, from the same nose responsible for Must de Cartier. Much cheaper than Opium. Many prefer Café to the current-formula Opium (has nothing to do with coffee).
What a coincidence! My mom who never wears perfume much showed me a drawer filled with perfumes she bought in Paris years ago and one of them was Diorella! There's so much storytelling in perfumes and I just love them more and more!
Thank you for this lovely clip. I own Diorella and absolutely love it! It's my favourite on this list! Also have Rive Gauche, Aliage and Charlie which are also lovely.. You forgot to mention two of my other favourites which I absolutely love and lso own are Chanel Cristalle EDT and 19. I was too young to wear these in the 70s but discovered them a few years ago.
my sister was a teenager in the seventies and I remember Jovan Musk being THE thing, and I remember her just dousing herself with Tabu, my best friend always wore Ciara, by Revlon, and my mother had those bath beads that was the Jovan Mink and Pearls, I can just smell it now in my mind. I am not sure what the oak moss scent is, now I need to figure that one out.
I’m a 70s baby. The non perfume smells I remember were Ann French cleanser, roller ball strawberry lip gloss, astral hand cream ( the advert used to show a dried out leaf that, once coated in Astral, became as supple as a baby’s bum and YSL without a doubt! Loving that 70s vibe outfit! Your ideas for videos are amazing!
One I can't find the commercial for was Styx from the early 1970's by Coty. Loved that scent. Kinda mysterious.... And another one gone away was Ninja perfume from the 1980's...Very oriental spicy scent..Loved Ninja too.. Some scents that were so good they do away with.
YSL Opium was the first ever fragrance i smelled. I used to smell it when my mother would spritz it before she went out with my father. Haven't smelled it in years, but i still remember it.
Love this series and not putting big pictures of fragrances in the thumb nail really amped me up and prepared me for a surprise. I had no idea that there are so many fragrances from this era still sold, great video
My signature scent as a teenager was YSL (The Original) Opium while everyone I knew wore Charlie. I wasn’t trying to be different. I wore it because it was my one and only true love in the 70’s.
I really enjoyed this video, brought me back in time. ❤️ My very first perfume was Anais Anais. ❤️ After that, I loved and wore Rive Gauche for years and years, it was my signature scent. ❤️ I miss it so much. Later I also liked Eau de Calandre by Paco Rabanne. ❤️ My mom liked YSL Rive Gauche and Ysatis by Givenchy. ❤️ Have Anais Anais and Rive Gauche been reformulated? Do they still smell the same? What does it mean when a perfume is no longer produced for decades, but someone is selling it on Amazon? Thanks in advance for your response.
Absolutely love this❤❤❤ I was growing up seeing and smelling some of them from my grandma's wardrobe. Much regret that I threw them away. These bottles are so classic.
I was a 70s teenager I wore youth dew /tabu /o de lancome /charlie/ panache/anais anais/tweed/chique/pagan/tramp/blasé and more still wear most of them today too xx love this channel soki thank you much love jenny
I remember some 70s fragrances...I was born in the early 70s. My mom wore YSL Opium for years; then she switched it to Guerlain’s Shalimar, which was better than the intense Opium scent. I also remember a Gucci flanker, which was strong & that came out in the late 70s/early 80s👃🏻👧🏻
My first perfume was beautiful. It was Green Apple by Max Factor. Incredible scent! Have always tried to find something similar. It was the beginning of the 70's
I love your videos soooooo much. I just discovered your channel just 2 days ago and I am going through all your videos. I hope you keep posting these amazing content. I hope you hit 100k by end of this year. I love your videos I have your post notifications on!
Blimey this was a blast from the past and had me revisiting my late teens/early 20's. The perfumes I wore before I could afford the more designer ones were Faberge Kiku and Xanadu, Coty Masumi, Charlie and Worth Je Reviens. When I started working I wore a few of these you mentioned, loved Aliage, Diorella and Rive Gauche. I did have Opium but in all honesty I hated it and still do, way too overpowering for me. Really enjoyed this trip down memory lane❤
In the 1980s, my lovely Auntie used to buy bottles of Yves St. Laurent's Rive Gauche for me. The first time she gifted me one, I thanked her. She thought I liked it and kept buying bottles of it for me. I absolutely DETESTED the smell of it the first time I used it, and never even opened any of the subsequent rive gauche bottles she bought for me. I thought it had the most disgusting smell, like stagnant pond-water.
Hi Soki, since subscribing to your channel, my perfume collection has grown from about 30 to 79 bottles!!! I am reliving my past perfumes lol. But still not found a replacement for ghost serenity. I looooove opium mmmm its nearly edible .
@@annoldham3018 Oh yes, definitely. I remember being a teen in the 90‘s and feeling very attracted to the bottle. I knew I loved the fragrance even before I tried it. I know it sounds cheesy but this really happened to me 🥰
Opium is not exactly the same I just bought it but it's less beautiful as before they made all those more synthetic than before. Rive gauche also was great. Anais they say it is still same
For me the iconic scent of working class West Yorkshire was Estee Lauders Youth Dew. I saw a bottle in Malta a few years ago and I had to buy it be transported back to the 60/70’s. Walk by the crowded pubs and clubs at that time and all you could smell was Youth Dew. Living in Castleford as a kid, my next door neighbour, Aunty Mary, would ask me when I was going into Leeds to call in at the department store Lewis’s to bring her a bottle of Youth Dew. You could smell Aunty Mary before she appeared. Fantastic memories of a past filled with love and community.
I never find gorgeous perfumes like the one's in the 70's I used Estee Lauder -Estee ( believe it or not the smell in the empty bottle remained for years) I used also ,Femme , Fidji , Miss Balmain ,Madame Rochas,Mystere Rochas, YSL Silver and blue bottle, Pacco Rabanne female, Chanel N°5 .
Would SMELL Opium in the Stores & I about gaged eveyTime ! It NOT ONLY fill the whole ROOM but filled the whole STORE, haha.. I wore Jovan Musk & Charlie !!
Anyone recalll one called something like 4am? Have never been able to re-find any mention. Loved Aqua Manda (late 60s early 70s), Hyplotique (with the black cat!), Musk oil and Ambergris oil (all time favourite). I treated myself to Lair du temps (more expensive) and there was also the bargain Sea Jade. Never liked Tweed, but do you remember Tramp! nd i see someone mentioned Panache!!
Opium always gave my mum a headache. She went to the theatre with me one night and the lady sat in front had it on. Very embarrassing scene ensued! I thought it was quite nice.😆🥰
