What id really like to see in a riv pick is just 4 hooks. I find it easy enough to use the standard rake that came with the covert companion, single pin picking is where the riv pick really shines.

My latest challenge is CI's tubular lock pick, videos make it look so easy but there is some skill to it I have yet to gain. It is fantastic that CI sells a tubular training lock as few places sell them. . Pry bars are common but I also got one of theirs as black is so sexy. lol Some people have been wanting to buy CI's new case just by itself and it is one of the items in the Vault so it may happen in the future.

My brother in law had a driver working for him that had a hammer collection. Not to shoot 57 down, I have 3, but Allen had over 500. My brother in law thinks he'll make Allen's day with a gold plated hammer for Christmas. Dave buys a great looking hammer, gets a fancy hickory handle for it. Installs the new handle, and takes it to an engraver. The guy engraves it. Then my brother in law David takes it to a plating service, "We'll have to cut the handle off for plating, and we'll have to plate it in nickel first." Dave agrees, grumbling about having to go get another handle. The plater gets done, David picks up the hammer, puts the new handle on and presents it to Allen for Christmas. Allen is nearly teary eyed with joy and mirth as David relates the story and imagining how much David has invested in the hammer. But he's just gotta pop David's bubble, "David, this is great, but if you paid attention to my paychecks, my name is Allen, the hammer has it spelled A L A N." 😂😂😂😂😂😂

It's super cool that you got that much stuff from covert instruments. I have a Genisis set, and my brother has the FNG, but I've been contemplating buying the Echelon and/or the Arbiter after practicing and getting better at lockpicking.

The arbiter is fun and best in class, but you won’t use it every single day like you will with the echelon set.

I'd love to try Covert Instruments stuff but for some reason their checkout process does not have Czech Republic as an option. Lots of other EU countries are there so I don't know what the problem is. For now I'm going with Multipick since they are happy to ship their stuff to me.

Like you and I once discussed in the comments of a previous video, a lot of lockpickers like to give Covert Instruments a lot of shit...but I think the points you make in this video perfectly go to show why their criticisms are unfounded! For me, as someone who has all of what I deem their "essential" lockpicking sets (FNG, Genesis, Echelon, and Slim Pickings), those few tools really do feel like the only ones I'll ever need for approaching most standard pin tumbler locks. And because CI has such recognizable branding, their stuff is super easy for me to recommend to friends who want to get into lockpicking--I can just tell them "Get yourself a couple of Master #3s and either the FNG or Genesis set, and see how you like it!" Also, I think most people who say CI tools are overpriced have never actually tried them and therefore don't know what they're talking about LOL. For less than ten bucks, the FNG set is nothing short of an incredible value. The only problem with CI is that getting their tools to places outside of the United States can be extortionately expensive. As an American that's not a problem for me, but it makes them hard to recommend to any international friends :(

I’m international, and don’t have a lot of spare cash. I’ve sprung for some CI gear as well as JimyLongs, Sparrows, and Southern Specialties to go with my cheap Ali Express stuff. You can tell by what I use what I value and support and would therefore recommend.

The designer of the lockmaster showed a way to add one or two flat turning tools inside the lockmaster scales. If I remember correctly. Is that something they’ve added to their new run’s of jack knifes?

I’m seriously considering the echelon set. Currently using sparrows tools and Dangerfield tools. Echelon sounds good because of the different thicknesses and being in UK our lock standards have marginally narrower key ways.

The Swick jackknife is on the way! I dropped $150 two days ago on that thing. I will be giving every jackknife an individual review, just about once a week. And then once I have everything completely reviewed individually, I will give my final thoughts on what I think is the best!

Lock Noob and LPL are two of the most well known. Bosnian Bill is retired from RU-vid but left his videos up, he has a lot of videos explaining the various types of locks and ways of picking.

Good to see you guys comment on CI products. Im living in Hong Kong and bought a FNG, a Genesis set with a practice lock and a slim picks set this black Friday to start this hobby. I feel complicated when i got a package full of MIC label. I enjoyed to play with the practice lock. But, due to CI shipping policy, I shipped it to my UK friend before I received it. I realise the CI package have a better life than me, and I have to paid for its round the world trip. Beside the jokes, I am looking for a better pratice lock such as the revolver, cut away lock or sidewinder from sparrows. Any suggestion on this?

My recommendation is to not buy any practice locks from sparrows, they are garbage. They are fun, but they are still hot garbage. Just use your money to collect real locks. The CI practice lock is just that, it’s a real lock. If you can pick that regularly, then you’re ready to just start collecting padlocks and door locks

Maaan, I lost a small amount of respect in your lock pick opinions when you said “it doesn’t get much better than a rivepick”. Im on the compleat opposite side of the spectrum. My personal opinion, almost anything is better than the rivepick. To me the rivepick feels just one step up from a credit card pick set. I agree the rest of CI’s products are great. Just not that dang rivepick. :-) Ive been wanting to get one of the Lockmaster jack knives when I first saw one last year. Ive never ordered any lock tools from outside the us. They told me a couple months ago they’re currently trying to work with a us distributor to start selling them here in the US but haven’t quite reached an agreement yet.

nothing compares to a riv pick, as in jackknife tools. there is 100% no tool on the market that is folding, that can even come close to the riv pick. show me one, ill wait. lol

Are you getting to much Covert Instruments stuff? No, buy what you like and then tell us why you like it and if you buy something and you don't like it you're telling us that too which is what the channel is all about.
