Rubber airlines are the way to go Dan! Im in Northern Canada and you can't even look at those plastic one's without them breaking.

In my past life, managed a large truck fleet...RHIM truck dealership stood by us for years...Really valued their customer service / commitment.....

The blue lights can be for several things, some places have LED street lights and the coating has worn off which makes them light Blue or Purple. Some places also install blue lights to combat a drug problem making it harder for drug users to find their veins. I have seen some street lights purple or blue but only in 1 or 2 in a sections, not an entire rest area. Great video Dan always enjoy watching your videos. Stay safe out there.

If you run the plastic air lines unfortunately they will crack or break when it gets cold.The solution is what I did when I trucked!When your in the truck parts,ask for the parts that go in the ends,a sleeve and a compression fittind that surrounds the hose.A plastic pipe cutting pliers from Menards,teflon tape and two open end wrenches to fit.Parts and the correct tools will help solve a problem that happens at the most inopportune time and place.

Hello Dan, the blue lights are a nationwide defect from LED manufacturer where the laminate that gives the light it's white color degrades and causes the lights to turn blue. We have the same issue here alot of ppl were complaining so it was a news story.

Dan, I wouldn't complain about the hair. It helps to keep you warm. You've also had some seriously cold temps this year. Western Canada and down through the mid USA have had some nasty temps.

Hi Dan. More fun cold weather trucking. The plastic air lines have their pros and cons. I use them up here in Canada because I have the Cali (end of frame) hook ups but they can break in the cold, as you experienced. A trick I use to help if one of them breaks is to previously grind off the bumps and bits on the glad hands so either one will fit on the service or emergency side. If the emergency line breaks I switch over the service line, pull down the hand valve to release the trailer brakes, keep the trailer charge button on the dash pulled out, and carefully get to a safe spot to park and repair as I have no trailer service brakes. Hopefully just off the road or to the next exit. (Not sure if your Mercer inspection would catch that) I also carry a spare coiled line in one of my trailer boxes to help in a pinch. Safe travels.

Those covered trash cans in that rest area looked to be full, l guess they didn't want an overflow before they could be emptied.

I always used rubber air lines, never had luck with those plastic ones.

This winter has been nasty ! You keep it going and safe travels.

back in the 1950s, both my father and uncle drove trucks armed. They had too. My uncle carried a piston and my dad carried a hatchet.

Dan, you see the potential economic benefit of partials. You should be asking for partials any/every time you have deck space. Steps and flats have the added advantage of loading anywhere on the deck. The ultimate goal is revenue per mile.

If you were planning on changing the blue service line anyway, along with the broken red emergency line, you could have swapped the red emergency broken air line and connected the blue line to the emergency side, pulled the trolley to charge the system with air, used a bungee cord to hold the trolley applied while snapping a pair of vice grips on the blue line to hold the system charged. Then release the trolley, leave the button on the dash pulled out on the trailer side and driven the truck the few feet you had to drive it without dragging the brakes. When you applied the service brake to stop, the tractor would still have brakes. Just clamp the vice grips anywhere on the blue line so the air doesn't back feed after the trailer is charged. Anyway, glad it worked out for you the way it did.

Those air lines have been affected by the Arctic Vortex. The cold weather is covering a lot of North America. We are moderating for awhile in Alberta. We even had a "power grid alert" last Monday. The wind turbines were not moving due to the cold temperatures. (The solar panels do not work at night.) . . . Keep on truckin'.

I respect you for advertising trustworthy people and businesses . That Sub-Zero weather is so dangerous it's good knowing you two are so well prepared for it .

Dan. I think they seal up those garbage cans in bad weather, only leaving the ones close to the building open, easier for their staff to service the ones close to the building. Have seen it before in Minnesota in winter

Hey Dan check out Reflexallen cool air lines at 4 States I switched to those and I know several guys that run them . They are worth the extra money there made for cold weather.

Dan, for foul/cold weather gear, use Helly Hansen. They charge a lot but it is worth every penny. For a winter front, get one with 4 zipper openings, that you can close totally, then you will be okay. By the way, here, it will be -50°C with the wind chill tonight. The LED’s in those lights are probably failing. We had the same thing happen to LED lights in the facility I work. They were a warm white when first installed and then just recently, over the span, of a few months, the color started to shift to blue. Had to have them all replaced.

If you don't have to drag the trailer far that's cool, but can always back the brakes off to move without dragging tires, or disconnect the air pots.

Hey Dan, When are You gonna swap the incandescent headlights for heated Speaker LED’s? They’re coming down in price now and they work great even in the snow and cold.

Back in 1979 had an airline snap. Narrow country road and m/t trailer. Downside was it swung out and hit a car coming the other way! Not good.

Rubber air lines and springs to keep 'em off the tractor....they stretch enough to make turns, and will keep the DOT off your butt. I'm sure you already know these things being the conscientious trucker you are. 👍

The tape is to keep the lids on in the wind?

if the winds are strong enough they can rip those trash can lids right off and all that trash will be flying in the wind, making a mess to later clean up

The taped up trash can lids is a situation like the water fountains being turned off during covid. The air lines and the electric line needs a coiled portion to keep it from getting pinched or over on the drive tires. You need the spring effect from the coiled portion. I carry a splice fitting for the rare occasion the air line or line may break. I also have a splice for the lines under the trailer. I realize that that is only a temporary repair until you can get to a travel center.
