Very poor quality home movies of the start of "The 1927 Trans-Continental Air Dash" (of 1972). Created by Glenn Norman, Richard Bach & Michelle Goodeve. Nine Aircraft departed Mountain View AFB (near Belleville, Ontario). Seven made it to Delta Air Park, B.C. on the Pacific Ocean. "Officially," Rod "Cowboy" Keller came first, Richard Bach & Chris Cagle came second, and the remainder crossed the finish line - 3 days later - tying for 3rd place. (One aircraft crashed in Michigan. One Aircraft went down in the mountains. There were no injuries in either case.)

I was fortunate to accompany my father in the 1973 Air Dash. For a 12 year old it was the experience of a lifetime. I wish there were photos or movies from that one.

Wow! Mark, how wonderful. Who's your father? I MAY have pix! (I was the Pilot of the blue & white 1929 Gipsy Moth {aka: Fearless Leader}. LOL My partner, Michelle Goodeve, Richard Bach & I created the original Air Dash in 72.) And - YES - there ARE movies from our 2nd Air Dash ("The Great Belvedere Air Dash of 1973"). Both the NFB & the CBC had camera crews follow along on the ground. The NFB was covering the participation of C/W singer Cal Cavendish, and the CBC shot daily footage on Paul Soles adventures during the trip. I think Cal Cavendish still has a copy of HIS film. Paul's son, Jonathan, tried getting copies of the CBC footage a few years ago, but all the cut/finished shows have disappeared. BUT... They found footage of the "outtakes" from Paul Soles' daily reports, spliced them altogether and gave us a copy on DVD. BUT... All the "outs" were put together backwards, upside-down, and out of order. However, I now have programs that will allow me to re-edit those clips, and I'm working on them in preparation for the release of my first eBook of Aviation Memoirs, "Living On Stolen Time" (which should hopefully be out this winter). BTW: If you're on FaceBook, send me a Friend Request and I can at least get some of the stills to you. (I'm listed under my REAL {stupid-long} name, Glenn Colin de Kavanagh-Norman. {Blame my mum.}) LOL

@@fearwidge Hi Glenn, My dad was Brian, we had the 57 TriPacer. I think you may have traded a few emails with him. If I remember correctly we joined the dash as a support plane for the CBC crew as our plane was to "new" to enter. I remember Paul Soles from the TV law show. I believe I got a ride in one of the moths and few other s. I will look you up on FB.

@@markk6592 NOW, I remember you. And I know we actually have a pix of our Gipsy Moth diving down to "attack" a train in the prairies, taken from YOUR "Tripe." BTW: Michelle & I bought our own Tri-Pacer back in the late nineties. WHAT A GREAT AIRPLANE! One of the ":best-kept Secrets in Aviation." See you soon on FB...
