The same for me. I live in Sweden and woke up early on that Saturday with the news about the first attacks in Sederot and the rockets about 30 minutes after they started. I had no idea about the proportion the attacks would take. I felt so miserable for not being able to do anything. I keep praying for all of them since October 7th, for the hostages, their families, all the victims and survivors. I hope that they can be healed from this tragedy and terror.

The Kibbutzim Hamas attacked were strongholds of the Israeli Left, which it afflicted with romanticization of Arabs in Gaza. A while back I argued with some Kibbutz members about their refusal to organize serious self-defense. I said "Some of these same Gaza people you view through rose tinted glasses will sooner or later come and massacre you, and the rest will cheer the murderers." I might as well have been talking to mules. Now this former hostage, and you as well, just blame Israel. Contrary to you and her, of course Israel negotiated. And they did get some people out, though at considerable cost, since the required pause in fighting meant an unknown numbers of soldier deaths, because the minute the IDF lets up, Hamas regroups, and soldiers then die trying to get back to where they were. The situation of the hostages is monstrous BUT THAT IS THE FAULT OF HAMAS NOT ISRAEL. If Hamas allows a halfway reasonable deal, Israel will get more of the hostages out.
