Nope! Its just that the head has a screw on top that adjusts the distance between the arm and the disk. People just think opening a hard drive will break it because you have to take out said screw to remove the cover. I did this myself and after adjusting the distance it worked again!
older drives can still work for a while after the cover is removed , the reason why modern drives break istantly is because with drives getting larger , they have more sectors and this makes them more fragile
