This closedown has the mechanical clock with the juddering thin second finger (the one in the wooden frame that the Noddy camera pointed at) and a longer gap between clock and globe (to allow the camera to pivot to the globe).

Back then BBC 1 preferred to close down most nights by 12.15am, because as soon as they hit 12.15am the transmission staff would have to be paid extra money. BBC budgeted for Fridays and possibly Saturdays to stay on air longer, as those days were big days for viewers to the channel

Yes Minister always premiered on BBC 2, and then would be repeated on BBC 1 later in the year.

I think that was true of most BBC2 light entertainment and drama, for the benefit of those who only watched on 405-line TV sets. BBC1 repeats of BBC2 shows seemed to get less frequent in the late 80s.

Was part of that legendary late 70s Saturday night BBC1 lineup of Basil Brush, Doctor Who, Jim’ll Rape It, Kojak (or Starsky and Hutch), Duchess Of Duke Street, Two Ronnies, film, Match of the Day and Parkinson.
