I knew I forgot something. I had one more chore I needed to do before the winter snow. My gravel driveway needed a few repairs before I start running the LX2980 front mount snowblower through the winter snows. But things don;t always work out like you plan them. Tune in and let's get this done. Cheers!

It is nice to know that my property isn't the only one that grows rocks.

Great reminder. I have used a sledge hammer to flake off the top of such a rock, to give me another year before dealing with it. Not a long term solution, but I don't have a gravel pile.

You are right about those rocks. They will emerge from the surface by the repeated action of freeze and thaw. And yes, they will eventually cause a major problem on the snow blower! Thanks!

Good morning Gord. Yes sir them rocks do eventually float to the top and oh what a mess they will make. It is good that you do clear the drive and find them before they have a chance to damage your equipment. You'll have your work cut out for you in the spring. Stay safe and keep up the great videos around there. Hope the seasons are a great time for you all. Fred.

GP thanks for sharing. We have a long steep gravel driveway as well and you definitely need to get those big rocks off. I usually use the quad with a snow plow blade until the gravel is frozen I find this keeps more rocks out of the snow blower. Cheers, Mike.

How's she goin'? This is a very good tip Gord, thanks for sharing. I hit rocks like this many times and one time in particular caused me some grief. I hit the rock, well in fact it was a frozen rut, and it jarred the tractor so much I hit my head on the windshield!! LOL That smartened me up I'll tell ya! Take 'er easy!!

w00t! Gord, if you continue to forget your end-of-fall-chores, you need to get yourself one of those Heavy Hitch tooth bars to break into that frozen gravel pile, and a stump bucket to help dig those boulders out! 😁 😉 One of these days, I'll endeavor to become a procrastinator, ...but I keep putting it off.

I wish our ground was frozen. We have had a wet fall and now as the snow flies the temps are as low as 18F degrees up to 45F. The soil is soft on top which makes the tractor dig in. I have beet juice in rear tires and total weight of each rear tire and rim runs about 1700 lbs. Add the tractor and it's not pretty. Any dirt trail becomes a mud trail. But I like how you solve your problem. Well, have a great weekend and enjoy. Back to the deer blind.

Put some rock salt or other ice melt product on your gravel pile. It might loosen the gravel up enough to use and keep it from refreezing.

Hi Gord, I could not see if your loader is the same as my B2650, I use the open pipe behind the bucket to slide in the shovel/rake/tamper when I do my laneway repairs. Bucket is usually too full. I have the box blade on the back.

I think it would work well but my grapple works great ( when the ground isn;t frozen). But for sure I think a stump bucket with a good hard strong tip on it would be great.

Could you use heat to crack those rocks? Maybe a good face shield because hot rocks pop but try a torch on it or a dump a hot bed of coals on it to bust it up.

Why not drive the leaves off the road with either a 0Turn or Mower deck on the tractor? It would work better and much faster? I use my 0turn to push the leaves to the edge of the property or push them in a circle (ever smaller) until in a pile and keep circling the leaves around and after a few minutes you can barely see them (pulverized)

Buy some of that stuff from that splits rocks. Drill a few holes, pour it in and come back in a couple days. Watched a video Paul Short ( Specialty repairs) from NFLD years ago split up a big rock.

So given your explanation of the driveway and why you don’t dig with the bucket, could you have used your grapple in the gravel pile to break it up frozen? It stinks when we let our chores run past, but you were probably playing around with the chainsaws and your buddies. Maybe they could have come to your rescue 😅. Cheers

GP, a reasonable cheap attachment that might be a better option for rocks would be a narrow stump bucket. Apply more force to a narrow area might help w those rocks being removed.

Jp yor friend from Alaska. I did a long driveway here at my place... So a great idea for you.... Hit it with a dozer, and pick off the big rocks...
