The right tool for the job! Results are outstanding! In NH, I try to mow end of May and middle of July. "Usually" less rain and a lot of heat stunts growth past that. Maybe another round in late Oct just to make an area look pretty.

4.7" That is crazy to "mow" up to that diameter. Also, to see that much growth in one year...makes you wonder what all that would look like if untouched in 5 or ten years. And...what did it look like 200 years ago?

It is interesting you use the term "stob". We use it where I'm from in SE Kansas, but when I moved to Peoria IL people didn't know it and thought it was a made up term. Apparently it is a regional dialect term mostly used in Oklahoma and Texas.

I can second this missive! I am a 67 y.o. Texan and have heard it all my life. But it surprises me to hear that it’s not a normal term. I’m gonna ask my daughter, that lives up near Chicago after going to college at Wheaton (I should have vetoed that choice lol), to ask her husband and friends there, if they are familiar with “stob”. 😮

Instead of mowing twice, what about using a controlled burn? Mow you a fire barrier on the outside perimeter roughly 30 feet wide, and then burn the rest?
@JamesCopeland-i1j
@JamesCopeland-i1j Час назад
12:51 - this is the reason why I prefer Antonio Carraro to the Ferrari. A few of their reversible units are available with an HST... a HUGE benefit when mowing or using a bucket. If you think mowing on a reversible is better, you should use one of the 6-way 3-point buckets they make for them. You'll never want to go back to a traditional FEL. If I'm not mistaken, newer AC reversible tractors also incorporate a reversible fan to blow the grille out.

Do these Ferrari tractors go to higher horse power ratings over 74hp? If so maybe they can lend you an updated model that is of higher horse power when the time comes. I'm curious how much better your mower would perform tossing 90 or 100hp at it. :)

Depending on how the ground is setup with the government contract, you may only be able to mow it once a year. Our property, they limit the mowing from November through February. The other months it has to be allowed to grow for the wildlife.

But those 4" stobs are still there... So when they cut it next time with the tractors they've been using, they're still going to destroy tires, right? You'd need to cut the whole thing with the flail mower, or walk through and cut them down manually...
