Man, I miss those wagons. There were eight of us kids and my parents always bought a wagon. Going camping was extra fun cause we got to sleep in the back of the wagon. Four of us could lay back there in comfort. I would drive one right now in a second!
In the '80s (when I was a teenager) we had a '73 Torino station wagon. That was one tough automobile. You could fit a battalion in that back compartment.
In the early 1980's, as a tween, a brown '73 LTD Country Squire wagon took me to and from private school. Only a 45 minute ride from the 'hood where I lived to the 'burbs where my school was. Sat in those dual inward-facing seats. I thought I was riding in a limo, compared to some of my classmates who arrived in standard school buses. Great - until it burned oil too much one day and died out on us.
My neighbor had '72 Gran Torino Squire. When it came time to buy a new car mom wanted a Gran Torino Squire. Dad wanted a Country Squire. They ordered a yellow '75 Country Squire. Wasn't long before mom said she loved it.
i have one can someone tell me how to download this video....mine comes from Notre Dame it has a sticker on the side and the original owner bought it right after this commercial. it even has a notre dame sticker on the window since 1973
The styling is a little too bizarre. It's like the overgrown child of a Mini and Scion xB. That said, it's one of the better vehicles out there in terms of being wagon-like, but I think it's about to be axed, if it hasn't been already, unfortunately.
Meanwhile Japanese and European manufacturers were developing way more efficient engines, that were more reliable and longer lasting. You're looking at the beginning of the end for the American Car Manufacturing industry. Lazy designs, poor build quality and probably the most crippling effect, the damn unions. They are the most to blame for many of Americas industries...
The decline of the American standard of living is directly related to the decline of unions. All that money is being siphoned up to the CEO's, so they can buy more yachts and polo ponies. The management culture of today views workers as disposable parts that can be tossed away - they have no respect for workers. Why? No more unions. No balance of power.
It is curious that nobody ever credits German or Japanese unions for the success of their car companies but people keep blaming American unions for the failings of the Detroit 3.
Horrible cars. Ugly as hell, big as China and USSR together, huge engines and tiny power, straight line only (it's turning radius was something similar with Titanic's). Mileage? hahaha, 1 gallon per mile. But hey, what you gonna do, everyone was high back in the day.
If everyone was high back then, what's the excuse today for all these hideous, poor handling, bad fuel economy SUV's and crossovers that are everywhere?
variovent aww... what wrong variovent? Husband won't let you drive the prius? ? Lots of people, myself included, Love these wagons we grew up with. Lots of space for passengers, luggage & big engine.
