#73 The making of Madness hard candy and the Stroop effect in sugar. 

I came here to see how candy was made, I came out a changed man.

Me: looks at purple color Me: looks at the word pink Me: yellow

The psychology of color is powerful, and red is very effective because it’s an attention-grabbing color, and might be the biggest reason for the success of something like Coca-Cola. One example would be four coffee pots colored yellow, purple, blue, and red. When asked, everyone agreed that the coffee in the red pot was the best, when all four pots contained the same coffee. Red is a major draw whether it makes you think warmth and comfort, or, danger (I mean, would you pay as much attention to a STOP sign if it were beige?)

I love when candy flavours don't always match the colours! I have a sensory issue where eating green coloured things hurts my mouth / makes me feel ill so this sort of thing means I get to try the "green" flavour without the hurt of the colour

I have experienced the stroop effect when I made cupcake cakes for my nieces birthday and her mom wanted it to look like a tree with little owls in it. I only had vanilla frosting so I colored it brown for the trunk and I got tons of compliments on my "chocolate" frosting! I had to tell everyone it was all vanilla and they didn't believe it. Even when I tasted it knowing it was vanilla I could almost taste chocolate.

I'm from Denmark, and that's the colour of "Rødgrød", direct translation - red porridge/grit. Its made from strawberries and rhubarb. It's typically served cold and thick with cold cream poured on top. Eat it with your family and friends, while sitting in the summer sun. It's about as Danish as you can get! Long story short ; that's the colour of strawberries and rhubarb.

Smashing all those slates and seeing all the marble-looking candy fly all over... Feels supersatisfying! 😍

The last part when you are breaking up the sweets is so satisfying

This would be an AMAZING science experiment for any school-age kids. It teaches them something really cool while also tricking them into learning via candy! I plan on proposing this to our center's kindergarten classrooms for five senses week.

Want to beat the effect he's talking about? Use the trigger part of your mind and identify the colors as fast as you can. You should be able to color coordinate before being able to read

Honestly very wasnt interested in the flavor, until you told me its going to be every flavor in a mixed bag. Now im super excited and might probably a couple bags.

Ska music and traditional hard candy. Doesn't get much better than that!

If you dropped the candy in a box with a screen on it that doesn't let the drops fall threw but allows the excess you get from the spacing between each drop. You could collect that excess every so often and mix it into a non flavored batch and allow that to be the flavoring. I think it would come out tasting amazing. You could call it your mystery candy since no batches would ever be the same. Just an idea and it would allow you to prevent any waste of product. You could make a tray in the box that collects the excess candy shavings and have the screen lift out to remove the drops. You could have a cover for that box to keep the shavings fresh and by adding those shavings to another hot batch it would remelt back into the candy or perhaps give it a crunch effect. Just an idea and hope this helps :)

Hah! That's so funny. 'Stroop' is also the Dutch word for syrup (any kind, that is). We love to drizzle some 'stroop' on our traditional big, flat pancakes. We love 'stroop' so much that we even boil all kinds of sweet & sour fruits down to a thick jelly, made mostly with apples and pears. We sure are a bunch of sweet-loving swamp dwellers down here in the lowlands! Keep up the great videos!
