Mike, I loved how you quickly changed the story when Melissa was talking about the next project, the pool house, and you immediately said how good her hat looked. That was great. For you. Not Mellissa. "But like I always say", great job Morgans! Also, just want to share what almost happened to me yesterday. I was deep in the woods behind my house yesterday bucking up a huge downed Red Oak. I was wearing my flannel lined jeans but not my chaps. I was cutting a big branch around shoulder high and after I finished my cut I came down with the saw , Stihl 290, and nicked the top of my thigh. I waited for the pain or blood to come but never did. Looks like my extra thick jeans saved me that time. First time in 30 years I had a close call like that. I admit I get lazy with the chaps but not anymore. Lesson learned. I got lucky and know it big time. Take note guys and hope everyone is doing ok.

A truly inspired song, like the grace of Melissa at the mill. Then there is the lumber she and the sawmill shed. With all that shedding to do, you'll be Morgan busy all summer and into the fall. Morgan busy is quite busy indeed. God bless you all.

A WORKBENCH MADE OUT OF CHERRY!!! Wowww. This is the voice of envy speaking. We don't have take kind of wood where I come from in Alberta, Canada. We make our workbenches out of spruce, or fir, or tamarack. We can buy cherry here but it is imported and you have to put up one or two of your kids as collateral to borrow the money to buy it. Once you have it you make fine furniture like a desk or dining room table and you have it grow naturally on your property. Very, very cool. Michael from Canada

Hello Morgans. Had a quick thought about what to do with all the bark rough cuts. You can use them on the back side of the building for siding instead of using good lumber. Just a thought about getting the most out of the logs. Great video in this time of uncertainty. Keep posting them, because in this crazy time it brings a little tranquility!!

Mike and Melissa, Great job. I wish I could help y'all. I love doing that kind of stuff. Since the wood is still green, it will probably leave a little gap when it fully dries. Have a productive day.

Nice job Mike! Especially keeping you viewers calm in their time of need! You might want to take a couple of those short cutoffs and screw two together in an “L” shape. Then you can temporarily screw it to your workbench to act as a saw stop when your making several repetitive cuts. If you feed the board in from the right and trim the left end first, you can then slide it to the left till it hits the new stop and cut off the right end without ever taking out your tape measure, and they’ll all be perfect! Great video!

It's fun watching the progress on the shed. From my experience with unseasoned pine don't be surprised if you wind up with up to a quarter inch gap between them when they dry out completely. That will give you plenty of air circulation.

You should install the screws in the siding a couple of inches from the edges of the planks. If you are going to install battens put a single screw in the center of the planks to allow for contraction as the planks dry. If no battens, put two screws close together. Looking good.

Mike, you're right of course... you'll have a pretty significant gap between each board in just a few months when that wet pine dries. Butt 'em together! You should also consider using rafter ties in front and back, to prevent any wind lift of the roof. Lookin' good!

Melissa, safety tip when using the mitre saw. Before you cut, tuck your left thumb in under your palm. I know you feel like your hand is always far away from blade, but it doesn't hurt to have good habits so that when you cut a shorter piece, that thumb isn't sticking out where it shouldn't be.

Great job Mike and Melissa - I agree with a few others that you really need ventilation! If you don't give the firewood plenty of ventilation you will get mold. Green firewood is >75% water so the evaporation rate is high - you need fresh air to move out the moisture or it will mold. Same with any lumber drying building - plan the building for air flow positioning it from West to East and screen-in those W&E ends. I've dried lots of firewood and lumber in my time - still am with no issues.

I built a privacy fence with wet wood I got from Home Depot. I wanted a little gap between the slats, so I used a penny nail for that gap. After the summer, it dried and there was bigger than I wanted gap between the slats. I agree with butting them up, because after the summer, there will be a gap for airflow. Your shed is looking good. On the shelves inside the house, I would use dried wood and stain and lacquer it since it’s in the bathroom. Finally, sorry Melissa, I am on Mike’s side on the pool. My wife wanted a pool. We bought a house with a pool. For the first year, she helped with the maintenance of it. Then she tapered off and I had to do all of the maintenance myself. I got bored with it and did not do the maintenance as often as I should. It was more work than I bargained for. But Mike, you should find a compromise.

Hey Mike, on your work bench, put some ‘cleats’ on the bottom side of it wherever you want your saw horses located. 1 on each side of the saw horse, keeps it in place and semi secure from sliding around. Perhaps set up a couple of simple removable pins to hold the miter saw in place.

Years ago, we used to "paint" our sheds (pine and poplar) with used motor oil. It doesn't create any particular hazard (some people feel it's a slight fire hazard?) since it will dry and if you're careful applying it, should be a good re-use material that doesn't go to the recycling container and avoids buying more stuff. Ants and termites don't much care for it either. Just a thought. May want to do some research on it to make sure. :--)
