Hi Joel! Japanese speaker here, ヒカリイカ is directly translated into English as “Light” and “Squid”, which is accurate enough! The グロースクイッド (1:47) is just the phonetic spelling of “Glow Squid”, but in katakana (カタカナ). Literally said out loud as gu-roー su-ku-i(kk, which is basically a pause/shortening thing)-do, AKA glow squid in a Japanese accent.

i've watched joel for YEARS now, so i'm well adjusted to his energy, and i never truly thought about how he may appear to new viewers who are used to other hermits, and having someone say HE'S ON THE VERGE OF MANIA is the funniest thing ever i cannot get over that

one thing i love about hermitcraft is that ppl dont try to destroy ur stuff, but when they do they always help rebuild it or they do it like last season with the war between buttercups and doc, they do it on extra ground where none base is( the terraforming does not count as destroying, also the tnt-diamond-bore accident was an accident so it wasnt wanted to destroy )

The banners are correct! Hikari (ヒカリ on the banners or 光　in kanji) translates to light and Ika (イカ on the banners and いか in katakana) translates to squid. So light squid :) The thing google translate gave you is basically the equivalent of spelling out how you would pronounce “glow squid” in a Japanese accent (glo- skuiddo)

I can respect not giving up, and that was a super satisfying explosion. The cleanup and gear replacement is nice, too. It's a nice reminder that y'all can commit to crazy pranks with a lot of damage, but don't just leave someone out to dry afterwards.

I think Impulse said that waxing you signs reduces lag and makes it so that the signs cant be changed. Might be something for you to try if you want more signs 😊

Hey Joel! The Japanese for both are correct in a way. The one that the Japanese speaker sent you is a direct translation of the word glow squid by combining the two native words for glowing or light(hikari),and squid(Ika), and is what is used in game. What you found was how someone would transliterate the English word into the Japanese text. I would recommend maybe when looking for what to write in Japanese, if they are Minecraft related to look them up through a Minecraft wiki that is written in Japanese as commonly they use the words that are used in game. The way I confirmed which one the game used was just looking up the English word for glow squid and then just attaching the Japanese word for the Japanese language 日本語, and maybe if it's a more normally used word, specifying that it's for Minecraft, (マインクラフト) will help you find the in-game translations. Many Japanese wikis will have both the English and the Japanese words somewhere on it so you can confirm yourself. Hope this helps

Having most of the detail on the street buildings vs the further back buildings is actually a pretty common art tactic for backgrounds and landscapes! Anything closer to the view is more detailed and visible where as the further back you go it gets more smudged and blobby because…well, things get less visible the further they get anyway.

I came here from xB's video and goodness, it was absolutely *hilarious* seeing you fail over and over again. I highly recommend everyone to check out xB's perspective on all of this. That man was a maniac when it came to dodging traps.

I'm sure others will have mentioned this, but regarding the Japanese letters and translating: Japanese is split up between 3 seperate syllaberies: 1) Kanji 2) Hiragana 3) Katakana Kanji is *basically* a more complex way of writing Hiragana, while Hiragana is fairly simple. Katakana is really only used for non-japanese/loan words (hiragana literally meaning "Common" or "Plain" kana). The main reason you're likely finding different or strange results when translating, is most translators will prioritize using Kanji as much as it can. While what is written is read the exact same, they appear different because they're using different kinds of characters. If you want to keep things consistent, or just use a single style of character, you'd have to use translator that specifically only translates into one of the 3 syllaberies. For more context for anyone that cares: Japanese is a phonetic language. When it is written with either for of kana (Hiragana or Katakana), it's essentially "written out" syllabal by syllabal. Each character represents exactly 1 syllabal in the phrase. Kanji however, is a bit more complex, and has over 50,000 characters that each mean different things. And some neat history: Kanji was derived from Chinese, and was only taught to male nobles during the Heian period (794-1185). Hiragana was introduced later (some time in the 5th century), and was largely taught to court ladies of the time, as they weren't allowed to learn Kanji. This lead to a stigma against Hiragana, as it was "effeminate, childish, and unsophisticated" unlike Kanji. Today, this isn't really the case, and Hiragana is all over the place, though Kanji is still the primary writing method.

6:44 For the farm, MAYBE some kind of “filter” that the glowsquid can fit through but the drowned can’t? I’m pretty sure glow squid have a smaller hit box than drowned, so maybe having some kind of physical filter (for example, creepers are SLIGHTLY under 2 blocks tall so you can use a trapdoor to filter creepers out of a group of mobs) can help! I'm not exactly sure the hitbox sizes, so if someone knows if this would work feel free to add to this! I might try testing this and report back my findings. EDIT: WAIT SECOND IDEA THAT I THINK IS BETTER. Use turtle eggs to attract the drowned to a different area to then kill them?

Idea for getting the Japanese. Minecraft allows you to change languages. Change to Japanese, open the creative menu, find the right item, then write down the characters written for it in game. That way you can avoid others trying to tell you the wrong thing because you literally see what it's called in game

I think it shows the chill ness of Hermitcraft that Joel can basically meet XB and 2 weeks later blow up his house and he’s basically fine with it (with a bit of fixing up).

For the squid farm, the problem is being in a dripstone cave. If you can move it down below the dripstone cave it will work. Otherwise, you could try putting turtle eggs and powdered snow in such a way that the drowned go after them and die, but I’m not sure of that will actually work. Moving is the best option.
