Flying QANTAS domestic home to Perth, sharp turn to port for final, with shocking wind shear and buffeting below 1000 feet. The whole of the 767 cabin went deathly quiet as the plane bucked its way through the turn - and the pilots put a perfect chef's kiss of a landing down. I was up front and as I exited, the cockpit door opened, and one of the pilots emerged. I called out "Great landing mate, you nailed it", only to realise that the pilot was absolutely as pale as a ghost, looking like they'd had a really big scare in that cockpit, fighting for control. That's why a QANTAS captain is a world away in skill and experience ahead of some of the jokers I see on this channel. Credit though, you also show some awesomely skilful handling of planes too.
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 6 месяцев назад
There are good pilots, average pilots and crappy pilots everywhere. Also at Qantas. On RU-vid we tend to see the crappy pilots, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t more out there. As to your experience, the pilot probably wasn’t pale. Approaches like that are exciting, not scary.

I have flown in and out of Perth probably a couple of hundred times on my life had many crazy landings on many different airlines you have to hand it to all the pilots concerned, although years ago had the displeasure of a sideways DC10 MAS landing I think I went pale. The worst airports in Australia I've experienced are the two in northern NSW Armidale and Tamworth in bad weather can be very scary.

If he can’t land normally in those conditions, then he could never take off from there. For some reason, some pilots are always more worried about the landing and do dangerous stuff like slowing down to Vref, going below glide path and touching down early. If the numbers work for landing, those numbers are based on a normal landing and should never be an issue. The take off in those conditions require a much longer runway than the landing.

@@vincentlugthart4618ludicrous. Landing numbers will tell you if you can land or not. Thats the same for any airline. The numbers come out for a NORMAL landing. There are no numbers for: “fly slow and below glide path and touch down early.” This is an example of pilots not really understanding their own aircraft. I’ve seen pilots like that. The weird thing is, they are always worried about landing in such conditions and not about taking off in those conditions, which should be the main concern.

That's wacky, watching the video I recalled you talking about how tricky Narita can be about 6 months ago on Kevin's show at LAX.

"This Western Global Boeing 747-400F encounters an uncoordinated landing with large oscillations". I always assumed that landing was something the pilots plan to do at the destination airport, rather than an event that sneaks up on them.

The Ryanair landing looks like the Wizz Air landing at that same airport. The pilot probably wanted to land early (+ hard as usual) for safety.

Anyone else notice the wake turbulence created behind the TAP landing @2:01 ?

It’s some kind of camera distortion. Definitely not wake turbulence.

Not really. They can only be used as modern airliners, surely.
