Historically, a "legion" usually had between 4000 and 6000 soldiers. Considering that the undead legion apparently overwhelmed the entire kingdom of carthus which was in itself already formed out of several smaller kingdoms conquered and united under wolnir, I'd say a couple thousand members isn't even too far fetched when the task is to literally annihilate an entire kingdom with its own army. I highly doubt 75 watchers were able to destroy entire kingdoms.

@@nightscout9979 I don't think there is an item description that clearly states, carthus was destroyed by the legion. There are just some facts that suggest it. -Farron keep and the catacombs of carthus are basically directly next to each other. We know that time and space are convoluted in ds3 because it's essentially the end of the world. So several places that are connected in-lore are connected in-game. Like the profaned capital and irithyll (sulyvahn discovered the profaned flame there). Catacombs of carthus and farron keep could be another example for that. -wolnir is stated to be a conqueror I think in the description of his crown or soul. Meaning he definitely conquered stuff. He wouldn't be known as one if he never conquered anything. -the abyss watchers are said to "topple a kingdom at first hint of exposure to the abyss". That was their self acclaimed purpose and most likely the reason why they linked the flame in the past. Because we know that linking the flame at the very least slows down the abyss. If the flame dies, darkness reigns and darkness is usually synonymous with the abyss in dark souls. -while wolnir is obviously corrupted by the abyss, he has not fallen just yet. His golden braces and holy sword are said to keep him from completely falling to the abyss. When we defeat him by destroying his braces he literally "falls" into darkness. Clearly symbolises his fall to the abyss. -the fact that carthus mobs are straight up skeletons and not partly twisted creatures like artorias at the very least implies that they're not skeletons simply because the abyss took them. It's more likely that they've been killed when the corruption just began and now abyssal energy simply keeps them moving. Same goes for wolnir. You don't have to believe me. It's just a theory I've stumbled upon quite a while ago which would make a lot of sense and would actually explain what happened to carthus. The game doesn't 100% state it but if we only believe what's directly written in the game we'd know fuck all about the story. Theorising and puzzling smaller hints and clues together is the essence of souls lore after all. But to get back to your actual comment. I don't think carthus was conquered at all. It was mosy likely made up of smaller nations/factions conquered by wolnir, the giant conqueror. I think when the abyss started to affect it, the legion simply destroyed it and killed its inhabitants because that's just what they did. That was what they thought to be the best way to deal with the abyss. While most of them are dead now (see all the skulls in tbe catacombs), some are still wandering the catacombs because the abyss keeps them from dying and wolnir's holy artifacts keep him from completely falling to the abyss. Essentially doomed to eternal torment. Very characteristic for souls lore.

I don't think the legion consists of only the watchers, but also the mages, those ugly things in the swamps and the followers

@@dennisleonardo2992 well i am pretty sure carthus exist long b4 even the AW let alone lothric.... explaining their body that only skeleton left and why their place looks like tomb buried deep and yes they are conqueror...a really strong one too...the only reason the kingdom start to fall is when wolnir fall into abyss yes u could say he is not completely fall into it bcoz of the bracelet and everything...but he is stuck inside the tomb unable to lead the kingdom I also remembered reading an item which tells the reason the AW arena is just infront of carthus "entrance" is bcoz they guarding the area since wolnir is like a freaking source of abyss

@@overlorddante To be fair, Midir was tasked with combatting the abyss by the gods of anor londo, long before the undead legion was created, they have no way of crushing this particular abyss while its still weak because by the time the members of the order were even born, Midir was both already a huge dragon and on the verge of being completely corrupted by the abyss.

abyss watchers were the hardest boss fight in my first playthrough, i almost gave up the game. It took me around 1 or 2 months to beat this boss while i first tried Nameless king and soul of cinder.

Nah, Yhorm is a giant but he is not made of metal. I would like the stormruler to be weaker against him but making him more difficult in any other way would just break him.

While for this scenario I do agree with buffing both his and especially Gael's poise, him being unstaggerable in the base game would make him almost completely unfair. It's one of the few things that balances out his massive hp, high defences, fire immunity, and status effect immunity.
