Earl danced on the court while everyone else was looking to learn how to put on their sneakers.

To this day,Earl Monroe is my favorite player, the things he was doing when he played for the Baltimore Bullets was just so different back then. What I liked about Earl was he had a style and moves that were exclusively his own.

Talk about top 5 point guards all-time, the Pearl was that! The youngsters don't understand how good he was, The Pearl was the truth. 👏💯

I tell all the young'un's who idolize Pistol Pete that Earl was a much better basketball player. He was not a ball hog and he didn't throw passes that went into the stands. He was so great and with the Knicks he became a good defensive player. Pete never got better.

@@Gnofg Pete scored 68 points on Monroe and Frazier in 1977. Bob McAdoo was also on that Knick team. He never forgot it. Stayed in the shower repeating "The man beat us by himself." Pete was a greater player than Earl. They were both outstanding. Maravich never played with a really good team like Monroe did. Pete was a one man show. He needed to score to make his teams competitive. For example Pistol won the scoring title and was also among the leaders in assists per game.

People, even NBA historians, fail to mention that "Pearl" played his first season in New York with bone spurs!! When Earl told Red Holzman that he needed an operation, Red told him to wait until the season was over because the team needed his talents immediately [remember, Willis was still injured].

He sure was. My number was 10 and even though I was a Knicks fan, Monroe was my favorite player wearing 10 for the Bullets. When he came to the Knicks, he got 15 and teamed with Clyde who wore 10. I had my cake and could eat it too. I miss those days!
