This is a short film that I shot with some friends in an abandoned psychiatric hospital. All the dialogue in this film is unscripted, meaning the reactions are genuine.
GEAR USED to produce this video:
Canon 70D: amzn.to/2Zwowho
Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8: amzn.to/3spRH2j
Another version of 76 was actually finished months ago, but deep down we knew it had more potential. I knew that it could be something else entirely. So we stripped out the plot and began again. What started as a spontaneous zero budget horror film later turned into a much bigger psychological thriller.
We decided to answer a lot of unanswered questions in the rewrite, as well as leave more questions open to being answered in possibly more installments. Consider it an anthology, similar to the Cloverfield films.

Wow Colin. I honestly don't know what else to say. When it first started I was a bit confused why there wasn't any fancy cinematography but I forgot about that very quickly. This was SO raw. I kind of disregarded the fact that it says Short Film in the title and I thought that you and your friends were just exploring for about the first half of the video (if not more). That really helped build up the scare factor, this was terrifying and wonderful! Wonderful job Collin!

Oh my god this is perfection. If the dialogue is truly unscripted then hats off to you guys, it sounds so natural and it all flows so well into each other. Especially a good job on the editing, there is nothing that's there I felt could've been binned - every clip adds to the structure and/or the characters. I just really love the rhythm of the edit, there's space to breathe but it's also chopped so tightly you feel the fear so evidently. I've paused it to type all this, because I'm a scaredy cat. Watching this at 1am was a bad idea on my part. xD But I love this. Will certainly come back to it for inspiration if I choose to make a horror/thriller!

Not bad man. Best short film I’ve seen in a while. Maybe because of the candid style instead of a scripted perception. But the anxiety held well.

Dude this was bballin. At first I was like wow thats crazy long but you filled the time realllly well. Im super impressed with everything. The found footage was pretty good, i enjoyed the massive amounts of dutch angles. ;) The zooms got a little annoying to me at the start but you didnt use them as much later on. I love everything about the ending; that was absolutely super well done. I think overall the end could have been reached a little quicker, but I still enjoyed it even at 30 minutes so idk... The sound design was probably the most impressive aspect; it really drew me into the film. Anyways mad props m8!!

+ChaconFilms Really appreciating the feedback! It's always good to hear an honest opinion. Yes, I have a lot of things to say about this film, but in all honesty it is what it is. Next time I'll do things better for sure; this was very good experience taking something raw and making it into something entirely different! Here's to being creative!

+causbury Yeah man feedback is really rare so I love it even if it hurts to hear that kinda stuff about your baby. But yeah I'm not a huge fan of found footage but you did a pretty good job making it not get boring so mad props m8. And yeah please feel free to leave feedback on anything that I do

To be honest I have watched this a couple times now and it is fantastic. It has really good atmosphere and very genuine cinematography. I didn't feel like anything was forced. The acting was very good. I was wondering how long did this take to make from creating the idea to the end of editing (roughly of course hah) and did you plan out the shots with a storyboard or have a general idea then kinda went with it? Good stuff, keep it up man 👌
@collinausbury
@collinausbury 7 лет назад
Thank you for your kind words! This film was an experiment, to see if we could shoot a film on the spot. No script, no storyboard. We went into it with a general idea of what we were going to do, and started shooting. All the dialogue was improv. We finished the movie and it was at the 20 minute mark. It didn't have that... thing; that one thing that wrapped up the whole movie into a solid piece. So I delayed the publish. We started writing another ending and I edited the film to accompany the new ending. We went back and shot everything. Editing that section took a few weeks. It was frustrating, the whole editing process, but at the end of the day my friends were passionate about what we had made and what we were doing, so that's what pushed this thing through. We had no idea that it would turn out to be this big project. Honestly, I took the footage we shot home knowing that it legitimately might actually not be usable. But I crafted a story around it anyway - and here we are. In total, it took a few months with classes and life responsibilities, but what I learned was invaluable. You've gotta just make stuff. Create. Don't overthink it. Write. Shoot. Edit. Repeat. (Film Riot).

Hey it's been a while since you've uploaded! Hope you've been well! And what an interesting idea for a short film! I'd be soo scared hahha. How late in the night was it that you guys went to do this?? And it's also cool to see how you edited it to get progressively freakier over the night. The transitions are also really cool! I can't believe you got me to watch all of this hahhaa. That was really interesting! Especially that outro soo trippy! What's the next project?! :D N

I appreciate your feedback! Honestly right now I'm taking a break from shooting because I was a videographer at a kids camp all of July. Had to make a video every single day so I'm taking a breather. I am prepping to write a few screenplays and hopefully get some stuff going on the channel since it's been awhile since the last upload! Here's to creating!
