Good afternoon Gord, just got back from town and we have had lots of rain around here. Cooled us down and I love it, In the low to mid 70's . Unheard of weather for July in TEXAS. You did a good job in the woods, it's so easy to be having fun and enjoying yourself and then look up and see how fast the weather changed on you. Always enjoy your safety reminders, some folks seem to forget just how dangerous working in the woods by yourself can be. Hope they never have any injuries their self. Stay safe and keep up the good work and fun up there. Fred.

Working in the wood is not “if” you get hurt it’s “when”. It is better to be prepared for sure. Looks like the saws are cutting well. It’s always nice to have a stack of logs to start with as well. That was a good gift to show up to.

Gordon you can never talk or practice safety enough. I like your plan with the guys. I am having a little trouble getting my 261 to start this year. I think i will start with dumping the fuel out and replace it with all new fuel. I had a little from last year just in case I need it this last winter. If that doesn't work I will take it to the shop. I got it new last year so it is under warranty.

Morning James - sounds like a good plan - couldn;t get my portable genny started a few weeks ago and did the same thing . it was the old fuel in it. works again. Good luck with the saw!

Along with all of your other precautions and preparations for working alone in the woods, one should also slow down and be deliberate with your movements. Whether that be with your chainsaw, splitter, or just walking around your work area.

GP remember THINK 🤔 SAFETY and always put SAFETY FIRST ! STICK on the ICE 🧊, SAW in the WOOD 🪵 and RUBBER on the ROAD . 😊 GP get in side from the rain 🌧 because running a STIHL got to have sugar in your pockets to run right 😊.

You can never be too prepared, especially with safety. Those who scoff at this have never worked long enough to see someone get hurt and how fast it happens. I don’t recall IF you wear steel toe boots but that another thing people forget about! Great time in the woods! 😅

I think the timing of that storm was perfect as I saw you stretching your shoulders and back. Getting fatigued is one of the biggest causes of making mistakes. If possible when you are getting tired it is best to switch to something other than operating a chainsaw. Even running the splitter for half an hour could give your muscles the break they need.

Great advice! Many years ago I had a job clearing land. The first day on the job the boss told me not to cut when I was tired. Saw maintenance, hydration, and brush stacking is a great recharge activity. If you're working with someone else, keep an eye on them too.

All good safety info 👍. I tell my wife where I’m going to work in my 40 acres and I don’t deviate from that area. I carry my cell phone and text her every 30-45 mins. I have been cutting in the woods for the last 35 years by myself and I just shake my head what I use to have for PPE then compared to now and a safety plan now vs nothing years ago. 😵‍💫

Very seldom - sometimes if it is a light rain we continue but usually if we get a hard rain we usually wait till the next day. Cheers!

As I was cutting a couple days ago, I noticed another hole worn through my gloves. I thought of your glove reviews. Do you have enough new insight - experience to make any further recommendations? Maybe a new video?

Morning Gary! I gave up on trying to find a long life set of gloves. I started using Work Armour gloves - the black and yellow ones. I just got a hole in one finger recently but bought them last spring so for money, 1 1/2 years is not too bad for what we do - plus they fit well and are comfy. Good luck!

I gave up on leather gloves. I bought a new pair and put a hole in the fingertip on the first day splitting wood😂. I use the latex dipped gloves, and haven’t had any issues at all. Yes, they eventually start to wear,…but I still don’t have any holes yet.

Unfortunately, older teenage boys never help me in the woods. I'm nearly always woods managing by myself. Steel toe boots and chaps and methodical thinking help me out. Yes a cell phone as well. Cut safe out there.

Looks like you have that bar and chain figured out. If I see you swing that saw again on your Final Cut without putting that chain break on your going to lose your saw rights for the rest of the year ! Be safe my man

Gord, you sure keep ducking using that 462!!! The 462 would have been the far more appropriate saw for the second log you bucked in the video, don't you think? Do you just not like the weight of the saw or something, because it seems that you almost always lean towards the 261? If so, that's fine, I'm just wondering what the reasoning is. I've got a 261, and love it for it's weight, but it's not the saw that I normally reach for. We all have our preferences though, and there's nothing wrong with that.
