I never understood why they choke the firebox like that. I get that it creates more ash through the funnel, which is preferable by trainspotters due to its picturesque appearance, but isn’t it that forcefully causing the locomotive to run inefficiently could damage it?
The load limit for a Manor in BR days was 8 which doesn't leave much to spare. There are logs which show that the speed was typically 17-18 mph which is rather better than this effort but of course with well-practised firemen. 7802 looks a bit short of steam and is probably in full gear.
