That's truly breathtaking on many ways. - Accomplishment of large reliable aircrafts in general. - Completely isolated and on your own, so nothing must go wrong. - It's just the plane vs the world, such a contrast. - Going where (hardly) anyone has gone before. - Cold lifeless landscape, and thus what you take there is the only thing that lives. - Opportunities to learn new things, including atmospheric observations, etc. - Anything that's hard, will often result in advances that will benefit the world.

Hmmm.... If you overshoot the runway on Antarctica, it's the same as everywhere else......end of flight!😮‍💨
@witblitsfilm
@witblitsfilm 9 месяцев назад
@@arienoordzij3823 Possibly not. The ice layer is fairly sturdy, smooth and packed, you'd just have an excess of unplowed loose packed snow at the end that would quickly "ramp up" in front of the wheels and help slow you down, but without the devastating effects of sinking into mud, digging in and bending the gear. Also, ice and snow ingestion means nothing to jet engines, ingestion of mud on a normal overrun is a very bad place to be...
@arienoordzij3823

I have my doubts about the 'smoothness' of the ice outside the runway. But let us hope we will never know for sure! @@witblitsfilm

I new a pilot that few for a major airlines. They took off somewhere that had snow and slush on the runway, after airborne they couldn't bring up the landing gear. Long story short, they had to put it in a heated hanger for three days to melt the ice out of the wheel wells.

The plane, LN-FNC, with the name Ewerglades had 45pax and 12 tons of cargo onboard on this flight. They also had 4 pilots and 11 cabin crew. In Premium Economy there is 56 seats, so i gues ewery body where seated there. Ewerglades/LN-FNC is the workhorse of the Norse fleet. It has preformed more flights and hours than anny of the other planes. My 3 first Norse flights where al with this plane. If the pilots have experience with nordic winter opperations, they have learnd to activate the trust rewersers just before landing. Fun fact, the control tower at Troll Airfield is a Toyota Hilux
