In reply to a couple of comments, reading aloud might be problematic for learners of English who don’t yet pronounce all their words correctly. In that case, reading along (or shadowing) while someone else reads aloud, could be a good idea.
Hello from Thailand Luke! I do agree with you that shadowing is a good method for practicing pronouciation. It would be nice if you could make a special episode that you read a story for us as an orinal story as you normally do in your short story episode and then you have another section that you pause after each sentence (or a bit of sentence) so we can repeat after you. As I listen to your podcast while driving, it is impossible to press the pause botton by myself. Thank you in advance for your consideration.😊 Ps. You are my first (and favourite) youtuber I left my comment!
Hello Luke, I am a spanish speaker. Before internet, there was difficult to hear a foreing language, so I studied written English by myself. Today I have a very hard problem: when any English speaker talks to me I've problem because I have never heard many words even I know it in written mode. Now I have to beging to study from zero.
Hi Luke I am a doctor from India and i have been suffering from depression and Ocd for the past 25 years. For people suffering from OCD and depression concentration can be a very big issue .They are never in the present moment. I can definitely vouch that reading out loud helps you stay in the moment and helps form memories .
@soemoe5087 True bro I have been suffering from OCD from high school days with depression Bullying in High school ,parental separation and stressful medical profession has only compounded the matter But I believe in persisting and hanging in there I believe in karma if I remain honest and things will change one day
I’m really into this kind of podcast. I’m strengthening my vocabulary and my speaking skill thanks to this. Hope that you will have more episodes like this in the future!
I ´ve discovered your podcasts since a few months ago, and now, I can’t pass oneday without Listening them. Now I’m really addict to them, enhancing my practice of the language. Thanks for your remarquable teaching.
A nice article that scientifically explains the way you, Luke, teach us and the way we learn English with your podcast. We listen to your reading aloud, read silently the text while watching it, read out loud some extracts after listening to you. It works. 👍Thank you for this episode.❤
@@Bolat1214 Hello. It's LenaTE, actually Lena is my name. I'm from Russia, a teacher Have been teaching English for 30 years. I watched one episode from your Channel and think you'd better ask somebody who is a native speaker. Anyway, we can text each other, you can ask some questions if there are troubles with grammar or vocabulary, I'm not sure about conversation, usually don't have lots of free time.
Greg, great, great lesson Luke👏👏👏👏. I’m reading in this days The Medicis which is a story of the Medici’s Family of Florence. Two days ago I started to read the book aloud because I thought that in this way I will pay more attention to my pronunciation. And I succeed. So it’s absolutely through what the article says……. What the article doesn’t say is that if you are reading in that way, you need to have next to you a glass of water because your mouths, particularly your tongue, will get dried 😊, but the experience is absolutely positive.
Luke, thank you! it was the whole lesson to me as if I study at a language school. I read the article twice aloud before I listened to your reading. I slowed down the video to keep up you:) I wish all English speaking people spoke like you- clearly and nicely!
Hi Luke, Firstly, thank you so much for making these high quality episodes for English learners around the world! Answer to your questions at the end: 1. I did read the article aloud at the end and it took 15 minutes to do so. Felt more confident and relaxed towards the end. The words came out easier. 2. What you discussed/ the article you shared was so inspiring that I decided to read out loud an English article everyday (10-15 minutes). Apart from enhancing memory, I believe this is also a good exercise for muscles around the mouth :-) so when it comes to real conversations, I might have better/ quicker reaction and can speak out long sentences more natural. Thanks again and have a good day/ night.
I've been reading in silent whatever I read. After listening to your podcast,I knew that the important of reading out loud. And so I will try to read out loud to remember the things that I've read for a long time.Thank you Teacher Luke🙌
Hi, Luke! I read out loud for my children every evening. Usually l do it in russian or in belarussian but two days ago l read riki tiki tavi in english .lt was unabridged text as it was written. We really enjoyed it. Sometimes l read out loud news from newspapers for my coworkers .l like reading for people but l don't know why and I like your podcast.
OMG! You're perfect teacher!!! Really!!! I was looking for ya last 25 years , andi'm not kidding... !!! Your voice and your pronounciation it's real magic!!! THANK YA FOR ALL YOU DO FOR PEOPLE!!! MY ENERGY OF LOVE FOR YA AND FOR YOUR FAMILY POURING FOREVER!!!
Thanks, Luke, for yet another great episode. I enjoyed this one a lot! I remember reading out loud when I was a student, but when it came to non-academic reading, I always preferred silent reading. That said, I must mention, I have been practicing reading out loud for a few months now. While I was intuitively aware of the benefits, I really appreciate the assurance backed up by neuroscience.
You are, by far, the best channel I've discovered about exercising listening and pronunciation (verbal skills) in English. Your technique is impressive and you're very talented on verbal expression. Your pronunciation is, with doubt, excellent for English learners.
Hi Luke! I am teaching English in Japan. I realized how important reading aloud is for language learners. I would appreciate your taking up this article. Your in-depth explanation helped me understand the implications of the topic. I'll keep listening to your podcast. And, I'll read your scripts out loud! Thank you.
This was awesome, thank you, sir. I read (in the past ha-ha) it silently first, took out unknown words into my vocabulary book, and then read it out loud again. After that, I was listening to your reading and tried to pause and repeat it with your pronunciation and rhythm. It took me 2 or 3 hours before I finished this podcast. I appreciate your great job here!
One of the most important thing I’ve discovered in reading outloud is that it helps a reader shape his mouth by prononcing a huge ocean of vocabularies every day which help the reader’s mouth become as that of a native. It is like buying a new shoe which one needs to wear it every day to fit his foot otherwise the shoe will hurt. Reading outloud is a good way to get your mouth use to saying words easily and naturally. in section 7, where the paragraph started with ” Writers and translators (read- in the past tense, because the paragraph the entire text was written in the past tense) drafts to themselves to hear th rhythm and flow…” Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thank you for your time to teach us these great vocabularies. You are a great teacher. Daniel from Morocco
Thank you very much for your really interesting story. I have been listening to your video and audio maybe last two years and very often very old material, two or even 5 years old. And today I accidentally came across so fresh, 5 hours only. I am so pleased, its a real treat.
iv read last week words in english out loud because I were in an engiish masterclass and I was obliged to do it, and when I read it usually I do it out loud to hear the intonation of the word because I love listen english words and speeches
Thank you for this thought-provoking article and your comments on it. Indeed, there are two modes of reading, each being right in the right place. My husband and me are elderly people and in summer when our grandchildren come to visit us we do a lot of out loud reading with them (in Russian, which is our mother tongue ) taking turns. And as an English teacher I also use this method substantially.
You gave us a valuable lesson in this episode, not only about English, thank you so much. 80% of the time, I read aloud because it helps me focus better on what I’m reading; I thought I was weird and I've just found out it's a very good habit, instead 😃 I tried to read this really interesting article with you, whispering though, because I didn't want to cover your correct pronunciation with my voice......(honestly) not bad but not even so good 😦, I have to improve. Thanks again, see you in the next episode 👍
I like reading. I like being read to better. I wish we had a teacher like you whose reading alone would have encouraged us to acquire English as a L2 from our childhood. Since it's a long time since I was a school child, and there's no way to change the path we were to tread, I feel I'm, at least now, lucky enough to come across this channel which has helped immensely so far to do something useful for the acquisition of the L2. Love this podcast.
I'm used to listening your podcasts and this one is wonderfull. I really appreciated to be taken through in this way. . To my surprise I completey understand eveyrthing that you mentioned in this episode.
Thanks a bunch Luke. Lucky me finding your wonderful channel. I enjoy repeating every word you speak just to make sure that I can understand what you present. For sure, I subscribe immediately and press the bell 🔔. Great jobs Luke. GBU.
Thanks a lot for this cool podcast. A'm trying to read aloud every evening. And I always feel that is a great idea. Today you have given me supporting with scientific evidences of this activity in studing English. My daughter helps me by listening. She waste your time, but I hope it will give us right results
Thank you always for being a great teacher. Reading aloud - that's exactly what I do when studying English. I quite agree that it allows us to have a better command of English. I'll keep on trying😊
I’m a new one.I really like your Channel. In the past, I especially loved watching and rewatching bbc documentaries to learn English. It’s an efficient way for me to remember new words. It’s like learning English via reading by others. Of course, now I have been liking this method. And I also benefit from reading aloud. Especially when I meet difficult sentences, I have to do this. It’s really helpful. Love your channel ❤🎉
Hiiiiiiii~~just imitate the way you always say Byeeeeee at the end~Thanks so much. I really love the way you teach us, very light-hearted. As with all of your other videos, this video is incredibly useful. Indeed, at least for me, I intuitively read out loud but without being aware of the benefits of it. And actually one thing that I really like reading out loud is it can boost my confidence because I'm good at the English pronunciation and flow~(chuckle😁) even I say so to myself. Anyway, actively involving in learning is extremely important which can not only help our learning or memory deeper but also make the journey funnier. Thanks, great Luke~
Thank you for this extraordinay video !! I love your way of teaching !!! I have been studying English for many yeats and I am improving my English skills with your useful videos. 👍👏👏👏
thank you for this time. Listening to and repeating your reading is very helpful. It makes me immerse and give motivation to practice English to me. Hoping that my english skill will get better, I'm looking forward to your story !!
It's a great lesson Luke's and adorable explanations too, so it is a very interesting story about read and out loud for each word because it's so important grammar licensing and reading too, keep it more dude we needed it so much, and thank you for all.
Thank you for such an interesting podcast!. ❤ In my opinion reading aloud makes consuming a book a way slower, but obviously reading aloud in targeting language gets much more advantages to a learner.
Amazing podcasts Luke, iI really enjoy listen to you, practice and improving my english in each short history. I'm really happy that I found this channel!
Thank you so much, Luke, for your videos. I appreciate your effort and the excellent quality of your contents and your amazingly neat and pristine pronuntiation.
listening to your podcast makes me feel nostalgia. I really miss those memories when i tried so hard to learn english. but now there're so many other things draining me.
I haven't watched it yet, but I've already pressed the like button because I know, I always know, I'm so sure that the episode is gonna be brilliant because your podcast episodes always are ❤️
It was my method during my school and university when I wanted to memorise my assignments. 😊 I should keep continiue this way to learn more vocabulary in my English study. Thank you.
I enjoyed reading listening and watching...thanks Luke.. I think we read more silently because we are lazy and not interested...I think this is one of the reasons
