Hi Rob, Another very good review. I have the 7Artisans 50mm f0.95 lens that I use on my M4/3 camera. The performance appears to match the version that you have in the video. To me, the 50mm is a pleasure to use. The construction of the lens makes it slightly heavy, but the lens is considerably shorter (about 5.8cm) than the 25mm version in your video. Since I have large hands, I use a battery pack on my camera. This changes the weight distribution between the camera and lens making lens very comfortable to use.

I had the 50mm for a little while. It handled fine on my EM1.3. Yes, the performance is very similar. If you don't mind the extra size/weight, then this is a fine lens.

I also use the Olympus 12-100mm f4 lens, which is 140g heavier and 3x as long. Therefore, the 50mm 0.95 lens feels very comfortable on my camera.@@RobTrek

Have you tried this one at night Rob ? If you use that on a small tracker, you could get good constellation overviews. Discuss with our Nebula friend. Nice to see you finally understand aperture rings. Few years back you were withholding that, I recall.

I haven't tried this lens for astro. I'll give it a go one night. Keep an eye out on my instagram and flicker over the summer.

Yeah, eh? (Yes, I'm a Canuck). Tony won't get that, sadly.

Thanks Rob…not quite related…but have you ever tried the Brightin Star 12mm F2.0 lens? Available in several mounts (including M43). Inexpensive but seems to get decent reviews. A manual focus only.

No, haven't tried that one.

Thanks for the review, Rob! This is a really interesting lens by a rather interesting company. They create incredibly well built, very solid, feeling lenses at incomprehensibly reasonable prices. Years ago, I used to do film photography with a Topcon body, with manual prime lenses. What made them such a joy to use was the split-focusing system where you simply had to align the top and bottom parts of the image to nail focus. What bothers me about using manual focus lenses on modern bodies is that focus is so much harder to dial in "quickly" as compared to that split-focus system. Now, I have to rely on the electronics of the display to help me determine if the part of the image I'm interested is in focus when using wide open aperture, and it really slows me down. What are you techniques to dialing in proper focus with manual focus lenses on modern bodies? This may be an interesting topic to visit in a future video. Thanks again Rob, I really enjoy your content, and your style of presentation.

Thanks. For quickly focusing, I use focus peaking. For more critical focus, I use the magnify feature. In this case, the lens is too soft wide open, so I stop the lens down to f/2.8, use focus peaking + magnify, and then move the aperture back to f/0.95. I showed this at the end of the video, though I didn't do any commentary on it.

@@RobTrek "For quickly focusing, I use focus peaking. For more critical focus, I use the magnify feature. " Okay, great. This is what I do too. But I find it a bit fiddly, and slow-ish ... haha. Maybe I'm expecting too much. I wish they'd bring back "split screen" focus. It's so intuitive and fast! Thanks again.

Shape of this lens is interesting. Such long slim barrel. I would expect rather something shaped like my Pentax FA*24/2, but even larger diameter.

They stacked a lot of glass inside. I think it's longer than it should be since there are no aspherical elements. Aspherical elements where a milestone in lens technology to make them smaller. The plus side is there are no onion rings in the bokeh, a trademark of aspherical elements.
