Awesome I'm glad it helped. The manual shifting doesn't get used everyday but its handy to have. Mine seems to like to lug 5th gear sometimes and its nice being able to manually downshift and carry on.

I had the same problem on my Cayenne. Basically identical PCB, exept it`s mirrored so manual shifting is towards left driver side. No defective components on my board! After some troubleshooting and fault locating I fixed the PCB by soldering over most of the solderjoints with leaded solder. The bad connection was located to one of the joints at top left quarter of the board (from 10 pin connector and up). Even with my 10x microscope I could not pinpoint the exact joint. Problem is related to RoHS lead free microscopic solder cracks, a big general problem the first decade of Y2k.

It's probably worth noting that those magnets can fall out if you ever need to to take the shifter trim apart to get to something under there and it will also cause the shifter not to function. It happened to me a few years ago when we needed to force the shifter into neutral for another issue so be careful not to lose the magnets!

Pretty interesting. You can shift up and down out of 2nd gear if you put it in low range, when stationary

hi thx for the video ' i have different problem, the plastic rod that goes up and down when you push the lever button doesn't go down on it own so i drive without the lever for now and push up and down to shift the gears .the service guy that mess with it say it not his fault, dosent matter now, what do you think is the problem ? do i need to replace the whole mechanism ? is there a spring or actuator that pulls it down?

I didn't quite get that far in but yeah theres a spring of some sort that pulls it down. I'd imagine you could replace the spring itself or the stalk/white piece but i doubt you'll find anyone selling just those pieces separately and might be more simple/cost effective to replace the entire assembly with a used one from a wreckers

Josh, I am having a "Shift lever to P position" while driving in D. Can it be a faulty shifter sensor circuit board? 2004 VW T1.

No, shift to park while driving is a door handle sensor. The Kessy is thinking there some one at the handle trying to unlock the door, which it wont unless its at park. Shut the car off, get out and lock the door then with the key in your pocket see what door handle doesn't unlock the door. Whatever one doesn't unlock is faulty and either needs to be unplugged or replaced.

Hi Josh, I'm considering buying a 2008 Touareg Fsi V6 - it's being sold 'cheap' here in New Zealand. The reason why the cheap sale is as follows and they are describe the following issue word for word on their sales listing: - "Recently there have been are some issues with the ECU that result in the vehicle not knowing which gear its in when driven in full auto mode. The problem is not there when the manual shift option is used, and is currently driven like that" OK so it seems to me that it "might" be a similar switchgear issue - it may be the magnet not engaging the D mode of the left side but working fine when in Manual + or - mode. What do you think? The opportunity to buy this car may be a real steal and very cheap for me or a huge nightmare - I'm kind of assuming it's not an ECU issue as they might think and may be an easy fix. Your thoughts or any other viewers' opinions would be appreciated.

So it drives normally in auto and manual just doesn’t show what it’s in? Yeah my guess would be the circuit board on the shifter or the magnet fell out.

@@JoshsJettas It sold for 1500 USD - somebody snapped it up fast so it's too late, it looked quite nice too - they wrote in their For Sale Auction -- "Regularly serviced and well maintained. Engine runs very smoothly, timing chain and tensioner replaced in March 2023 recently there have been are some issues with the ECU that result in the vehicle not knowing which gear its in when driven in full auto mode. The problem is not there when the manual shift option is used, and is currently driven like that. A good vehicle for someone who has the time to sort out the ECU, and sale price reflects this. Service receipts available" This is why I guessed it might have been a small issue within the shifter like in your video, and not the ECU as they seem to think - not the same problem but pretty close. Oh well never mind, I'm still driving my piece of junk from 1996 lol.

This was causing it cluster to not know it was in tiptronic mode. I’m going to assume if the cluster sees it’s in reverse then the circuit board is functioning correctly and you’ve got other issuss

Must be somewhat common then, I’d heard of junk interfering with the magnets being somewhat common.
