My husband had this problem today and thanks to your video, he fixed the problem by following every step. He was quoted $ 600-800 by the dealership and he spent $12 for that pink plastic part. My hats off to you Sir! God bless you!
Ya hear people say enough "words cannot express" how happy, how grateful, how pleased I am..Well if ya stop and think about that phrase, words are simply not powerful enough to emit your emotion to others...that's what it means..so words can't explain how much this vid saved my ass today...thank you so much.
Your video was the easiest and fastest, thank you! My cousin told me to have it towed to a shop that would charge me $200 just to look at it. A friend said he would do it but he was trying to find the time because he watched a video that required the entire console to be removed. With your video and the grace of GOD I did it myself. I struggled a bit because I didn't have the right tools but I have the right tools now. As a woman I really appreciate easy to follow car repair videos like yours. Thanks again for your awesomeness! 😍
Thanks you sir! you just saved me well over 250 bucks. for those of you that have a Chrysler 300, you have to remove 3 screws inside the bottom of the armrest compartment, slide it back, ( it doesn't have to come completely off) and lift up on it while you maneuver the shift control out. the replacement part will run you bought 10 to 12 bucks at the dealership.
Thank you so freakin much! I was stuck 60 miles from home and I live in a foreign country. Your video allowed me to get home and get my car to a mechanic the next day!
This is the BEST video on this topic. The dealer insisted I needed a whole new shifter and wanted to charge over 400$ but I watched this video and was able to fix it by getting that little part for about 12 bucks on Amazon. The only difference is I have a Chrysler 300 and in the bottom of the arm rest there are three bolts that need to be unscrewed because it wont allow for the shifter to come out without lifting the arm rest a little. Thanks for this video.
For over 10 years and your video it is still helping people. Very well done and easy to follow. I was in a restaurant at 11:00 pm when my car experienced this problem. Thanks to your video I was able to unlock the shifter in a few minutes and drive my car home. I repaired myself the next day again using your video. Thank you very much.
I hope my comment arrives and you are in good health. God bless you! Thanks to your tutorial I was able to tow my boat again and take my wife on vacation. I was desperate. The lever was no longer moving and I was about to call the tow truck. Then, through an Italian forum, I came to your video. You are an angel, you saved my holidays. I hope all is well for you and your family !!! Grazie grazie grazie !!!
This was exactly what I needed. This was the exact problem I had and I really appreciated the step-by-step guidance and well-shot video. I had a little difficulty getting the rear end of the shifter out but a little joggling and flexing of the center console side panels did the trick. In my case I bought the replacement part from my local dealership for about $13.50 after tax. Great Job and thanks for posting.
I swear your FREAKIN awesome my boyfriend was able to fix my 05 magnum thanks to watching your video! I had watched a number of videos before I ran across yours and by far this was the easiest. Thank you :]
A man willing to watch the video with his woman and do the work to save money to spend somewhere else is a keeper and a blessing! I hope y'all are happily married together and continuing to work together! God Bless!
Thank you so much! It was a bit trickier getting the shifter out of a Chrysler 300, but all your steps were so clear and easy to follow. Part kit was $8.10 from Chrysler, who would have wanted $250 to do the work. Thanks again!!!
The best self fixit I have seen. Had no idea my shifter was such a piece of plastic junk until now. Chrysler should fix this for free but I know I’m dreaming.
Thanks so much! I was worried about a huge repair bill. I got the latch in 2 days from Amazon, and the fix went just as you described.I really appreciate you posting this!
Thanks for this video I a half ass backyard mechanic was able to do this job. Your way was the easiest of all I reasearched and no doubt you saved me alot of money. The Dodge dealership in St Louis Park sold me that part for $10 and thats all this repair cost me. Thank you
I love those swivel head snap on ratchets. They were one of the first tools I bought. Most auto repair is all about the attitude....you go at a vehicle with a positive attitude, you will be just fine. I'm slowly see more and more of these newer Chrysler vehicles come into my uncles shop, so i'll keep this repair in the back of my mind. Great video
Thanks for making this video. Got in my car and the shifter wouldn't budge, I immediately went on RU-vid, I KNEW someone would have a video, to get me on my way Thanks again
Super helpful! Just fixed this part on my 05 Magnum. One suggestion I found that gives better access to the shiftier is removing the center console. At the bottom of the storage bin is 3 screws. Remove those and snap off the 2 sides at the front and it will slide out giving much better access to the screws and avoid scuffing anything else.
This is the simplest, fastest, and best explained video by far regarding this issue. We got it right away, followed each step slowly and fully paying attention. Little replacement was $15 at the dealership, and a little pick and hook set that we didn't have for $7. Thank you sooooooo much for taking the time to make this video the way you did!
I experience the same problem with my Dodge Magnum RT, several mechanics were saying that it could be my brakes, timing and other issues. none of them had no idea. When i came across this video it was a cash $$$ saving and easy to follow video to get the job done. Thank you.
Thanks so much, I was able to follow this to repair my 2006 300 Touring Sedan!. One problem was getting the shift assembly out due to my model having a spring loaded cover for the double drink holder. I was able to maneuver it out only after removing the 3 screws inside the center console that hold it down, then raising the back end of the console to create a bit more space. I greatly appreciate this video tutorial. It is the best of many that I reviewed before starting.
I learned the hard way to take the ashtray seat warmer out. It simply pops out and there are three plugs on the back. It gives you a whole lot more room so you don't struggle too much. I am thankful to guys like this who make these videos which help save people tons of money and also give them hope that it isn't as bad as they might think.
I appreciate your straight-forward direction on this fix. Other videos made it seem a bit more difficult, but following your method I was done in roughly a half hour. Thanks for this video.
My hat is off to you also!. I was stuck in the driveway blocking my other vehicle in the garage. My son and granddaughter are coming in on a plane and this car has to move. Thank you for your steady approach to the problem. I couldn't go to get a part so I made a patch using 4 rounds of small braided stainless steel wire. The wire is nylon coated, so I expect it to last much longer than the pink plastic. Did you see that one guy had found one made of billet aluminum... that's the permanent answer. Thanks again for saving the day!
Don’t know how to thank you you’re a life saver, I have a Dodge Charger and my develop the same problem watched your video and was able to repair it myself.
Thank you for this extremely helpful video. My 07 Charger R/T experienced this problem about 2 weeks ago. Dodge quoted me 400+ to have it fixed. I find your video, paid Doge 12.00 for the interlock replacement kit and the whole process of removing the old and installing the new took me about 1 hour. MUCH APPRECIATED. You saved me money!
What a chore this was today in my Charger R/T. My console that the shifter housing actually sets in isn't quite as open as the model in your vid so it was a JOB getting it in and out without taking apart the whole console. But, None-the-less, your video saved me BIG TIME! For that my man, cheers to you, sir.
Awesome do-it-yourself video!!! My wife's car broke at 5:30am as she tried to go to work. I got it moving using a screwdriver to push back on the front pink part that has the spring. The spring appears to be missing. Until I have time to fix it next week, she can use the screwdriver to unlock the shifter. Thank you for taking the time to film and post this video. GREAT JOB!!!
I was able to follow the video and fix this issue myself. You did a great job of explaining step by step in detail. This was by far one of the better mechanical fix videos I have seen on You Tube. It always helps when someone else is holding the phone/video camera. Thanks again for your help.
Oh my GOSH! You are awesome! My son and I followed your video and fixed this in our Chrysler 300. The part cost $15 and saved me over $200 in mechanic cost. Thank you so much.
Thank you! This happened for the first time tonight as we're trying to get home after a long Christmas with family, and we just wanted to get home. This helped tremendously!
Best video I've seen on the topic and I searched through quite a few until I found this one. Had no tools available but using this video I just made a makeshift screwdriver to get at the lever so I could disengage the lock manually. Super clear instructions and it got me back on the road home so I could actually make the repair. Much appreciated!! I'm a subscriber now and I'll let the ads run!
your video saved my wife today, she called frantic while she was out of town and her charger wouldnt shift out of park, your video let me talk her through it and get the car back home where i could work on it, thanks again !!
This video was right on for the same issue I was having with my Chrysler 300, the gear shift was stuck in park. You even show the part number I needed to call Chrysler. I watched the video and had my husband pick up the part after work. He was able to take everything out watching your step by step video. I'm in business now all thanks to you, and it only cost $10.
Thank you so much. After watching this video i went to dealer to see how much they would charge. The part was about $25 bucks but they wanted to charge me $240 bucks just to change it. I only bought the part, watched your video again, and performed the maintenance myself. Thank you for this video
Thank you for your detailed explanation for fixing this shifter. At first I had my doubts about being able to do it but your video was so clear and thorough that it gave me the confidence to try. I’m glad I did. Problem solved!
I suck at anything mechanical & after watching you do the fix i decided to try it! My 300 was stuck in park in my driveway. I went to the dealership & picked up the part ($14.00) & went home with my cellphone in hand & fixed my 300. Thank you for making & sharing this video.
I just wanted to thank you for posting this video. I did the replacement myself. The whole process took me about a hour and part to replace costs like 14 bucks.
Had to do this today. Your video was by far the best at showing the steps and explaining things. I also removed the ash tray assembly as it simple pulls away from the dash and gave me a bit more room to work. I also ordered Dorman part # 924 706 as it is made of aluminium . Thanks again!
My husbands car had this problem when he attempted to leave for work Friday. I posted on a local facebook page asking for recommendation for towing and mechanic. Someone asked what the problem was and year/make of car. (2006 magnum). He shared this video with me. So thankful to see this. Now to get the part and get it fixed - and not have to pay for towing and labor :)
Thank you, RealFixes. With the help of your video, we were able to determine what was causing the shifter to lock up (Chr 300) as well as replace it ourselves.
I have a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica but it's all basically the same. What I like about your video is you replace the part without taking the gear shifter knob off. I tried to unscrew mine to the left but it wouldn't budge and I was afraid I'd break it. With your method, you don't have to take it off. I bought the metal replacement piece instead of the plastic one and reused the old spring. Thanks for taking the time to post this video to RU-vid.
Your instructions were on point. Im so happy i came across your video instead of paying a shop to do it. Only real problem i had was getting the shifter out of the space. I have an 06 charger and struggled for a while until i decided to take the console loose. It did the trick. Thanks !!
thank you. this is a excellent video. I only spent $12 dollars for the part at dealership. you save me a lot of money. I would recommend this video to everyone who had the same problem. it now works fine. thank you again.
hey you guys rock after me and my wife saw your video on how to fix ,we did our 300 that got stuck on park we thank you so much you help us to save money THANK YOU...
Great directions, I wasn't able to buy the part but had to buy the whole shifter. Was going to cost 650 for the dealership to do it plus around 100 for towing it. Paid 200 for shifter and replaced it myself! Happened in the morning and fixed it the same day! Thanks!
I just want to say thank you!! I was able to fix my Charger following your video. You kept it simple and it didn’t take me long at all. Not to mention I saved some cash!! Thanks once again!!!
Thanks for a GREAT video. I broke down at my son's school. I had only a leatherman and a windows phone on me. I got it open and got it into drive and drove it home. Called the dealer to get the part. At first they had NO idea what part I needed. "The pink part on the bottom of the gear shifter..." I saw your part # and they had it for $8.43. Once again, can't thank you enough!
Thanks for the great video. Just fixed my 2006 magnum. The Dodge dealership was going to make me by a whole new shifter $350-400. I found the metal replacement at the auto parts store and fixed it myself.
A big THANK YOU coming from NorCal - while my unit did not come out (or back in) as easy in my '07 R/T as yours did in the video, I got the job done and it saved me gawd knows how many 100's of $.
my wife and i were stuck in the airport and this problem happened. it was going to cost $100.00 of dollars just to get it towed then another $100.00 just for the mechanic to "determine the problem." YOU SAVED US HUNDREDS OF DOLLAR THANK YOU!!!
Thank you, yes it does help. I know the ads are sometimes annoying for all of us, but that is actually how my site can actually exist. Making these videos takes an enormous amount of time. I could never post these videos for free if it weren't for the ads. So, again, thanks for allowing them to run.
I know this video is many years old, but still very valid and current. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to film and explain this process, it saved me nearly $900 (Cad.). I worked like a charm for my '07 Charger SRT8. Again, thank you for this.
Thanks for this thorough and helpful video, saved me hundreds of dollars and the part is only $17 on Amazon. Removing the shifter knob gives more room to replace the part. Pry the plastic oval trim at the base of the shift knob downward using a flat screwdriver, then unscrew the knob counter clockwise about 15 turns to remove the knob then you can completely remove the PRNDL plate and whole top cover. Took me about 90 minutes to do the job with my 13-year old son.
Just a note to '05 Magnum R/T owners, remove the Ash tray/seat heater switch module FIRST. It makes removing and replacing the shifter much easier. All and all, a great video for fixing this problem. Mine went for 212k miles before it broke.
The process works perfectly. I just fixed my son's 2007 Chrysler 300 and saved him about $350. You can also find an aftermarket replacement part online for about $20 that is made of metal. The one I bought is from Dorman and I got it on Amazon. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Thank you so much, for your help and hard work‼️ This was the BEST DIY video on the shifter interlock latch assembly PERIOD. You made EVERYTHING look so easy and the video and documentation was spot on for the entire process... If I may humbly suggest one small thing that I felt was possibly insignificant, but may help someone else in the replacement process, and that would be to remove the ashtray. It kept popping out lol. I honestly thought you were going to suggest it, but then realized you were trying to do all of this with the least amount of steps possible. For that Sir, you must be congratulated, Thank you sincerely for this video and saving my family and I, a possibility of an expensive repair, or possibly being taken advantage of for a much more expensive repair that was not needed... I’ve been ROASTED many times in the past for simple repairs as this, and living on a fixed income makes it hard for automobile repairs period. Some people can be less than honest about such things, but because of your help and diagnosis, I can now sleep tonite! Kindest and best regards, Michael
This video was a great help. I just changed the latch on my 300c here in the UK, replacing the pink plastic one for a metal one. I did it before it went bad; it would only happen at a really inconvenient time otherwise. As mentioned in other comments, I had to remove the three bolts under the arm rest and lift it to enable removal of the unit. Also I was advised to put a bit of lithium grease on the shaft before putting the metal one on. Many thanks.
thank you, thank you, thank you!!!when I saw your video I was amazes at how simple this is. I had an appointment with the dealership to do this,it is going to be canceled! as im getting older I have to pick and choose what repairs to tackle. this video was such a tremendous help, cant thank you enough! part comming from amazon tomorrow,Charger should be back on the road good as new.
Thank you I was able to repair my 07 Chrysler 300 It was the holiday weekend so all dealerships were closed so I couldn't get the white upgraded part so I went to u-pullit and found the upgraded part in a old Chrysler gear shift took it apart instead of just changing out the whole gear shift due to it had cosmetic issues installed in my original gear shift and it works perfectly I can express enough my gratitude
Thank you so much for this video! I saved myself hundreds of dollars by doing this myself. I found that I had to remove the bolts in the arm rest in order to get the shifter out of its space. I also ordered a metal unit to replace the broken pink unit.
I own a Chrysler 300. This video is really great. It took me about 45 minutes to replace the pink lever. The new lever is white cost $7 at dealer. I did have to loosen the box directly behind the shift which has screws to remove the gear shift.
I personally want to thank you for this video. Because of you I save some money and I was able to fix my car my self. GREAT GREAT VIDEO EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT THAT YOU SAID AND DID IN THE VIDEO. ONCE AGAIN I THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO AND GREAT VIDEO
Many many thanks, I had just this problem on my Chrysler 300C. Bought the right part and had it fixed in about one hour and the part cost just £6.96. Super!
This video saved me tons of cash! Thank you! The only difficulty I had was pulling the shifting mechanism out of the car and putting it back in place once I had the part replaced... But it finally went thank you again
I know this is an older video but I still want to thank you for being so precise and to the point. I believe this is the problem we just had on our 2007 Chrysler Pacifica and I know that the shifter and console disassembles differently but the mechanism that broke is basically the same or similar. I feel more confident going into this fix now thanks to you and another video I watched on how to remove the console and shifter for a Pacifica!
Jeff, your exactly right, there are some differences with every year and model change. However the mechanical concept iOS the same. You can do it, so go ahead and have fun. Duane
