Awesome video, it's amazing how fast you can punch in values on the controller. 6:59 On some lathes it's not possible to conveniently set tools after the work has been installed. eg. sub-spindle tooling using an automatic probe. Also, on machines with mis-aligned turrets and no y-axis, I always check and shim center heights on tools by cutting a small sample, measuring on a microscope, and verifying.

hi, machinist from germany here, I know Its 4140 (as we call it here 42CrMo4) but i would try a lower vc for the OD and maybe more feed per revolution. The sceaming of the part could be avoided also the chips look kinda long (what would speak for more feed and less VC). The boring and the ID sounds perfekt. Love the explanation, for the programming from you, thanks a lot for the video, have a great day.

Wow, till now, i didn't knew, that air chucks for lathes exists. Thats impressive. But i wonder that you have this shattering in the roughing process with that short cantilever length - maybe because of that special chuck? Again a good video!

Maybe one of the worst things about a CNC Lathe 🤔 Setting up the Jaws ?? I have seen a few different ways to install them in the Chuck. I usually write the size on each Jaw with a position from the ID, counting out the steps on the Master Jaws or write a measurement on the Jaws from ends of the Master Jaws. Not exact the perfect way to it, but it works me at the moment until I find another way. It's good to know the comments are being read by you guys in the shop 👍👍

counting the number of grooves works but is a pain sometimes. i do a combination of using a tool at 2-3 mm higher than the diameter i want, and measuring depth of the t nut on the chuck keys, with calipers.

It's the material. 4140 will scream with a healthy enough cut, so will stainless alloys, especially inconel and tougher alloys.

@@choclatellama123 Could it be the much longer than needed boring bar length? Dampened boring bars work well too. I run two Okumas, an LCS25 and an LB35-II. Love those machines. Programming with Hypermill. These machines live forever.

@@bigbattenberg Those are his standard tools I am sure that rarely have to be taken out, pretty reasonable for what he is doing. He gets parts out quicker. I´d rather suggest to get claw jaws to get more MRR on 1st OP with bolt sets with different head length.
