I think I found the one where you use it as an aid for lifting paint the most interesting , I will most certainly experiment with that idea!

Hi Michelle, can you tell me the difference between ultramarine and French ultramarine?

@@artatjules it's basically the same pigment but the ones labelled French tend to be more violet and more granulating.

So useful to learn of using gum Arabic to glue paints back into your palette, and also reshape your older brushes! Any tips, Michele, for cleaning the threads of your metal tubes, other than wiping or trying to get the paint off with a sponge, before putting the cap back on? It often seems when I have the need is exactly when I’m busy with a crucial step in my painting, so I feel I can’t take the time right then, and later, it’s too late to do a good job so the cap gets stuck and is difficult to remove once again. Thank you.

A fine tutorial - and created while moving house! That is really appreciated by your subscribers and fans. Thank you! My favorite trick is using gum arabic as a painting resist, and an accessory for creating sheen. Imagine one is painting an eye, and then covers the orb of the eye with the gum, giving it the moist look the eye has naturally! Going to try that out tonight! Again, thank you!!!

Mine is the painting resist tip as well. I've always had a love/ hate relationship with masking fluid and this seems like it leaves your preferred masked areas much easier to work in naturally. Awesome tip!

Hello from California USA. My name is William and I am a oil landscape guy. I picked up water color because I thought it would be easy ( ya, right ). I was humbled by the complexities of the art form. Your videos have me at what I would consider a novice and have cut the learning curve dramatically. Thank you so much for the time and effort in making these tutorials for us. I will become a patron and am looking forward to some lessons.

Hi William, watercolour is very 'techniquey' but all your colour mixing and composition experience will still help you :-) It's a beautiful medium!

Hi Michele, For anyone who has "paint in the brush" issues, using The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver is the best product. (No endorsements here, it just save my brushes from a gluey mess, as I posted in your FB group.). Most people don't realize that even with watercolors paint can get up into the bristles and cause trouble later on. Anyway, thanks again for the very helpful ideas. I'll be putting that on my next supply run and trying these out soon. :)

I am in awe of how versatile Gum Arabic is given that it's a binder. I would've never thought it would have most of these results knowing how it's usually used. Tutorials like these are such precious gold for artists to learn from, teaching viewers what they didn't know they didn't know. I would've never thought to experiment in these ways, let alone to use it as a medium in general. Thank you! I learned so much from this!! I initially found this video while looking for some kind of anti-lifting or workable sealer medium. Obviously this video demonstrates how Gum Arabic is the opposite of what I'm looking for but this was incredibly valuable information and knowledge anyway, thank you!
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber 9 месяцев назад
Thanks so much. I have seen tutorials where people use it as a sealer, but in my own experiments it did not work well, being water soluble! I am using Gum Arabic in this Friday's video as a background tutorial so keep an eye out for that one :-)

This video profoundly changed my work with watercolors a good year ago. Thank you sooo much!!! ❤ I only started watercolor almost three years ago as a more therapeutic thing as I am suffering from cPTSD and I needed something "hard" to occupy my brain to prevent thoughts. Watercolor has meanwhile become my passion and I even sell some of my original art now. I thought I must let you know how you sort of impacted my life in a rather positive way. 🙏🏻 Regards and my best wishes from Germany. 😊

I left a very fine layer of gum Arabic out in a glass bowl. The next day, when I picked up the bowl, the fine layer shattered into pieces and fell on the table like tiny pieces of cellophane. I can imagine a layer on some paint medium could flake off like that and start your urban legend. 😮 I’ve used gum Arabic for restoring brushes. It might also help protect brushes when traveling.
