I am. I just use different words to confuse them at the time. They get the point later when we get off the phone. It takes years to get to where I am right now. I'm so proud!
@@mariawaugh-clayton7978 I’m with you!! 😊 By the time I get off the phone, they’re actually agreeing with me…. Though it has taken me 25 years to perfect my “craft”!🤣🤣
As a first year teacher, I was traumatized by some very aggressive parents. I had serious panic whenever I saw I had a parent call for years after that.
So sorry😞 The first time the Principal called home I swear he was holding his breath and bracing for the worst. Once he explained what was happening and I agreed my son shouldn't be acting like a fool in class, the relief was palpable. It was heartbreaking to think of all the crap educators deal with everyday.
You should do a video on the type of parent calls (empathetic with the teacher, blaming the teacher, coming up with excuses, explaining their life story to the teacher, etc.)
@Mangogurl OwO I've had those type of parents where a 5 minute convo turns into half n hour. I've had parents who just need someone to listen to them. :)
@Mangogurl OwO aww, that's so sad! I also had trouble expressing myself when I was a kid. I was told not to cry. Now I try to be a good listener for my students and for anyone. It's good to get bottled up emotions out.
@Mangogurl OwO unfortunately not all teachers are understanding, but a lot of the time they are just stressed which makes it harder for them to be relaxed and open-minded
@Mangogurl OwO yeah in order to be a good teacher you have to be open-minded. I understand the hardships and stresses of teachers (I am one 😅), but I also don't appreciate teachers who complain all the time and don't realize what a privileged, special job this is.
watching this video makes me so glad university professors don't have to deal with parents...thank you FERPA. Public school teachers rock! I could not do what they do.
I'm definitely a "I'll just email." I can control what I say better that way, edit, revise, delete as needed. When I get on the phone I ramble nervously! Yikes!
I think nowadays most parents prefer email to phone call. That way they have time to process as well before they respond. They also aren't being bothered while at work.
Well I think that it’s great you are watching these. They are funny. I love these videos. But I do think they make an important point about what us teachers deal with every day. It’s really not easy.
29 year veteran ‘n surviver of public education....and, may I say, Sir....YOU NAILED EACH & EVERY ONE! 😎 Thanks for the giggles - much needed today. God Bless ‘n Be Well!!
I’m the persistent one 😂 I will call every number listed, and then get the counselors, principals, AND siblings/cousins if I need to. My kids hate when I go to calling 😆
How do you get a phone on your desk? My school only allows intercom phones mounted on the wall by our door. Which means you either go to the office phone and conduct a private conversation in front of everyone or you use your own phone and give parents your number! My old admin said she had no problem giving out her number, well good for her. Another unspoken invasion on our lives that is “expected” to show your commitment to your job.
Ro Lo- You can get a free phone number thru google voice, so parents won't have your regular phone number. I got it for the pandemic when we had to go virtual. You can call and text and doesn't cost you a dime. Good luck 😊
The praying for voicemail is me needing to call some customers for follow-up. I have anxiety whenever I try to do calls. Good thing my work is non-voice.
During this pandemic, so many parents call frequetly. I get 2-3 voice calls everyday. Sometimes they call in the middle of my teaching just to ask what the zoom meeting id is, because they swap device / asking whether or not I can hear their child's voice in the zoom 😌
Aurelia Hammerlock be the one who calls fifty times to get the Jakobs Estate. Aurelia: Hi, Montgomery. This is Aurelia, and you have been ignoring my calls for fifty six days now... Lmao
Yes! I am the “Email instead” or if I have to call “praying for voicemail.” I hate making parent phone calls. I like to text via Google voice now. That seems to be best! Great tool!
I'm the "praying for voicemail"...we really don't want to talk to y'all about your bad @$# kids💀💀. If I'm calling, it's for documentation purposes to get the ball rolling for progressive discipline.
I was a little bit of all of those. I lived for the "good news" calls, and dreaded the other kind... Thank goodness I teach at the college level now, and parent calls are illegal.
No matter how much I hate calling, better call than write. Writing can be misinterpreted and one has to be soo careful with formulations and complying with political correct formulations and can be kept or shown as "proof". Always call!
And trust me, being a grandparent so of THAT generation, I was ready sent that for a raise to my children if you get anything in school you get it twice as bad at home. Bless you teachers. I can't even imagine. I can hardly control my dog
Yeah no... we email and use all this other tech to send messages! No direct conversation lol! This is only for the few who I know who don’t want to talk to me lol!
I was the unfiltered when I taught. I used to be like that with the preschool director too. I would tell her she has to stop letting these parents run all over her.
