Fantastic tank, you have totally inspired me to give it a go, I'd been looking online at forums with everybody saying it wasn't possible and then I came across this video, you've proven them wrong👍
Craig Roy Thanks!! I went looking everywhere to see if had been done before and couldn’t really find anything. I decided to take on the challenge and it came out successful !! It’s still going great ! 😉👍🏻
i have biorb saltwater too, i just set it up yesterday. Its a stocked biorb with alot of macro algae and no live rock except the bio media. I am avoiding scratching it so i use bio balls instead of ceramic media, it float at first but good thing you can open it up and put ceramic media inside the bio balls. The a80 is sitting flushed on the lid like its part of the aquarium and no light leak and im using a very very very powerful airpump for water flow, seriously its like theres a wavemaker inside if you use a powerful airpump.
Hi mate, I've just come across this biorb marine and have got to say its a very stunning tank. Over the last couple of years I was planning to set a biorb that I have which is 60l with fish only system very similar to yours but no corals. It would he very appropriated if you could do a video or get back to me regarding your filtration and your weekly maintenance on this tank. I don't want to set it up and then mess up on the filtration end. Thank you in advance, awaiting your reply.
Bio is looking great. If you think the skimmer is at fault what about just using it at night for a while and we how it goes. Interested to see how your bio keeps doing. Keep up the good work. 😎👍
I wonder if you can make a new lid that is a skimmer/collection cup. Probably a 2.5 inch diameter tube down to just under the top of the bubble tube. Awesome tank 👍
e36m3 Jeff Kennedy ..... Man ..... That is a great idea!!!! 😁 Thanks for the input!!! So glad you commented!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Ps... I have a 90 E30 straight six 😉
I see this video is two years old but I was wondering how this worked out for you? I have the 16 gallon Biorb and it’s a beautiful piece. I was going to sell it, but I may try my hand at salt again. Any advice that’s not in this video?? Thanks!
J Carey ..... It is pretty cool indeed! I just happen to run across it in a goodwill. It was sitting in a shopping cart with other crap piled around it and I thought it was a popcorn maker till I pulled it out 😂😂😂 I paid like $9 for it 😜
I always second guess myself when I hear someone else say they saw good results when using reef crystals. I'm using fritz and sometimes I wanna switch back lol
Billy Pipes ..... Same thoughts exactly!!! All these newer and nicer salts out and I felt like I had to change. And I gotta wonder if it’s that or what??? UGH 😣
@@2pleez122474 awesome! Thanks for sharing! I had a marine 8gal biorb tank up and running about 5 years ago and want to start it back up again, but with some upgrades. Love your light idea but don't exactly trust my acrylic skills so I'll start small with better pumps etc.
Angela Robinson ... Tell ya what. Right now I’m out of state at the Tidal Gardens BBQ. When I get home let me take s look at the top and see if I can come up with a quick and easy diy. I also have a trial top I made which I wouldn’t mind mailing you if your willing. Let me know Thanks !
@@2pleez122474 Wow! That's really generous of you! I'm totally interested. Thank you! Right now I just have the BiOrb Aquarium MCR LED S Accessory light and I'm sure I would need something more substantial if I'm going to try for any corals. The first time around I only had a simple marine tank with a clown and cleaner crew. This time around, I'd love to try for a couple more fish, maybe a urchin and coral like flower pot etc.
AMAZING!! I have the same biorb tank, I am trying to grow marine coral too! The reef sand i added jammed my filter and now I cannot change the filter cartridge :( what heater did you buy? Thanks!
Ya ... sand is no good. I just broke up live rock into smaller rubble and placed it around the bottom. My heater is one of the smallest controllable Aqueon’s.
@@MrCokeman01 Very Cool !!! So happy to have inspired you !! Im combining two 16 gallon biorbs with an acrylic tube in the middle. If you scroll through my videos you’ll see the sneak peak of it 😁👍🏻
Hi, l have a 105 bio orb, and lwas wondering where you went to get a different lid made for your bio orb? My 105 has been running as a marine tank for 4 years now, and l would like to take out all the plastic corals out, and replace them with real corals. Every aquarium shop said"you can't use a bio orb as a marine tank ",well you can. In my experience most not all want you to buy the biggest tank in their shop, and l have been keeping fish of one kind or another since l was 5 years old, and l am 62 years old. I would be grateful, if you could get back to me. Regards. PAULINE COWELL.
Fish keeping and coral keeping is technically different, corals should be treated like a plant though, the reason why stores saying you cant use biorb for marine tank is because of its lighting, but yeah if you change the lid and put your own led light it could definitely work, however the biorb filter will not give alot of flow which coral need for gas exchange, but if you put wave maker on it the filter wont work properly i think this is why his wave maker is on a timer which is a good idea.
That was my question as well. You say it's easy but how exactly do u clean the filter? Do u simply pull it up through the top? Don't your rocks and corals fall into the spot where the filter sits when you pull the filter out to clean it? Also, how much did this build cost you in total complete with the fish?
Swag Master Sorry bro nothing died in this tank ... nothing suspicious. Moved corals to other systems. Just did that to prove it could be done. Giving the biorb away on my channel here soon. I purchased the corals and put them in. With clean water and dosing regimen of course the polyps will extend. If I left them in there they would out grow the tank. Think about what makes sense bro. It’s only 8 gallons. Thanks ! 🍻
