Genetic memory is a thing. When I was a little girl I had a bad accident on a horse and that really spooked me in my ability to ride. My Mom took me to an old cowboys place and he brought a mare and told if I could ride her I could have her. She was an old cutting mare and she really helped me out. Down the line we decided to breed her to Peptoboonsmal (yes Im that old). When I tell you that foal was born to cut It would cut dogs, pigs people etc..

The other day, a hawk landed on the fence of a run that had a horse in it. That broke horse took off.

That isn't what I mean by genetic memory

I totally agree. What other species segregates their family units? And all the excuses humans use. Ugh!!! Great talk!

It's all about instinct. Certain animals have certain instincts. And they were created that way. Some instincts have modified over time with domestication. Some more so than others.

I'd have to agree with you...for the most part. Its a curious topic for sure. Noting dogs aren't horses, but l ran over a bear on the road 20 some years ago. When l got home blood from the bear was still smeared to the undercarriage of my pickup. Coming up to greet me, my dog got one whiff of it, raised his hackles and took off like he'd been kicked. l know my dog had never been around a bear before. What does one make of that?

Bears smell bad. Your dog has enough brains to go away from something that smells bad.

Some might agree with 'bears smell bad'...thus...but you won't convince quite a few of that. Thanks for your many awesome insights. Have a great day!

a more meaningful term is _home education_ 'cause schools are for fish, so they can swim around in circles in formation, without ever getting anywhere

Early one morning at a racetrack east of the Mississippi every horse brought out for a workout resisted passing a particular post; riders were dumped, horses running willy-nilly on the back side, curses rang

@@HorsemanshipAsAnArt It is my belief this occurred because of a poorly motivated circus worker. Yes there was a circus camped on a vacant lot near the track. The poorly motivated worker apparently needing a bathroom break had tied the bear he was exercising to the troublesome post. They were long gong before the horses appeared but I don't know maybe the bear left something near the post that offended all those pampered equines as I am pretty sure non of them were aquinted with a bear.
