WHATS UP WHATS UP WHATS UP! Since we can’t visit the Ivies and get the real vibe of each campus due to the quarantine, I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to experience what the social/party scene is like on each campus. To give you all the juicy details, this is a full length version of The Convo! Be sure to leave your questions for the next episode in comments down below or DM me at Domonique_Cynthia on instagram! Enjoy
You should discuss dorms. For example best dorms to choose, single, or shared dorm, what dorms look like in the school and etc... Especially since we aren't even allowed to visit a campus now.
Yess! I love that! We have a housing/roommate episode coming soon! Can you remind me when your dorm application is due so I can have it completed on time please!:)
I like this. TBH Ivy League (mosty) be humble meanwhile people at state Universities seem to do a lot of bragging about where they go to school. That's on my mom not telling me she went to Harvard until I was completing college applications. Love the amount of POC
I don’t think that’s true I feel like everyone equally flexes where they go to school...I feel like Ivy students internalize a superiority complex resulting from their school
I agree! I think it’s because our generation has been predominantly raised to be aware of those issues in society due to their prevalence and effect they have had and will have across the globe.
Ayyyy thank u for this an African-American, female, yalie, from NY, even better she lives in queens NY like me.An actual role model for me because I wanna go to yale😭🤩
Which school did you end up going to? I’m helping my daughter do research and party scene is important to her. We’re from NYC (moved from BK to Queens) . She’s considering Yale and Princeton.
The video editing and quality keeps getting better! I really like how you had the school crests by each of the students so we could keep track of what school they were from. I love your videos! Keep up the great work!
your videos are literally SO helpful going into college app season! I feel like knowing about the social scene and vibe at the school is so so important before applying and without visits (thanks corona) it’s hard to figure out, but your videos are so so helpful! thank you so much! your hard work is helping so many of us and the video quality is amazing!
I have to say as a Columbia student, I really disagree with almost everything Shyanne said. We all have different experiences I guess, but there were some things that I know the general student body can simply not agree with. Absolutely no one is spending $70 to uber anywhere in NYC or $120 cover charge like girl what. Also YES you do sometimes have to uber back but unless 50%+ of the group is blackout I am a) not paying more to be "clean" b) not risking anyone throwing up in this uber and leaving us to pay a cleaning fee. Also I would say Columbia has a huge kickback culture, you usually have 25-30 people over, not 100 which is where it isn't as lit. But the bars are always fun, I don't really know what she's talking about "see the same people" because that would be anywhere you go. I'm FGLI woc and I find cheap ways to turn up all the time. It's harder to get turnt up on Columbia's campus than other places FOR SURE, but girl every weekend you can find something and if not u spend 000 jumping the subway and going to a bar in Washington heights. No hate but that was really not a representation of what most of columbia is like. Love this channel and love the diversity represented
Lol, I mean you just admitted that it's harder to turn up at Columbia haha. But, I said $120 was the cover charge for guys at some clubs downtown, and the Ubers, for those who prefer to take them, are mostly always split between people, so you're right - no one does pay $70 (or $40-$25 is closer to the average from a night out) by themselves. I'm FGLI woc too and DEF enjoyed my time at Columbia. In the next video I do explain a little more on how campus life can be fun and you can always find something, but compared to other Ivys and schools in general I would say our parties are not as lit as they could be because there's so many events going, people are more independent being in NY, we don't have a lot of space, and the student body is not as cohesive in that everyone wants to turn up with each other. There's mostly smaller pockets of diff vibes, and when you're with the right people that can def be something that people enjoy. I did venture out to a lot of diff colleges during my time at Columbia, and other campuses def had some consistently elite party vibes compared to our campus.
:) At first I was iffy about watching this cuz that 58 minute vid mark was daunting but this was so worth the time. Liked everyone who represented their school, spoke and described it in a fun way. I especially loved that sociology majors students were discussing this topic (I don’t usually see this major) and ayyy Seattle!!! I’m from Washington, so happy to see someone from the state attending an ivy! (My towns small so we’ve only had 2 or so ppl who’ve been accepted to Harvard/Stanford but it’s rare)
Can you include students from the other schools ranked in the top 30 on the US news and world report list? I feel like that would give us a more wholistic view of prestigious universities.
the princeton guy is so unintentionally funny and the girl from yale i love her energy!! I really wanna go to yale and what she talked about just made me want to go more...
I’m a incoming freshman at Penn and i’m super excited for freshman orientation week, let’s hope ms rona doesn’t ruin that either 🥴 but thank you so much for these videos Dom!! very informative!!
Lol, y'all got me responding to all your comments on Columbia. 😂In general, though, Columbia's fun because it's in NY. Parties still happen, but after the first few months they do die down, the bars can be dry, and the parties smaller because of everything else happening in the city or people just focusing on other things. The biggest advantage though is when you get bored of the Columbia bubble, you do have the whole city to explore, so nothing is ever dull! Similarly, I did talk about the more expensive things, but there are a bunch of events at all price points. And when you're with your homies, everything is a vibe - so there could be a chill party on campus, but it's still lowkey lit!
i clicked as soon as i saw the thumbnail! love you and this series a lot. thanks for coming up with creative ways to entertain us even while being in a pandemic!
Hey Domonique! I love this series SO much, another amazing episode. I'm a rising senior applying to a few Ivies so it is amazing to get all this insight. The episodes are so helpful and well thought out. I wonder if you would ever consider having the names of their respective schools at the bottom of their screens if they're not wearing merch from that school? I find myself forgetting what schools they go to sometimes lol but that might just be me. But I really really love your series and cannot wait for the next release!
can u also do some of these videos with students from other top schools? like Johns Hopkins, northeastern, mit, uChicago, Stanford, etc. I think it would be interesting to hear these perspectives as well love these videos!
Yay Gabrielle! Bulldog REPRESENT 🤘 I agree with the 10, because Yale was PRETTY diverse. And even though New Haven was kind of a 🕳️, you could still find a lot of diversity and cultural events going on.
Zay gave Brown’s party scene a 10?? Lmao I would say a 7 on a good day. Some of the athlete houses don’t even let black kids into their parties(Football is not one of them). But nonetheless if you’re black or poc and looking for a party scene that accommodates you, you will find it.
Lol the Columbia girl really hates her school 😭 she said she doesn't want to go to the bars around her school because she doesn't want to see her classmates and that even with Gucci Mane she would rather be at a different school LOL. I am really interested in Columbia so I just want to know is this the general sentiment of the students? Also similar note but are there any Columbia students who can speak about the cost of going out? She was talkin about $70 Ubers and even xl only holds like 6 people so that's more than $20 round trip... instead of taking the subway? And if ur with dudes there must be some place that doesnt cost $120 right? The most fun people I know are broke so I can't imagine anywhere $120 being worth it! Would love to hear from a low-income student in NYC or someone who doesn't want to spend their cash like that
LMFAO, nah I didn't hate the school! It def depends on what you're into. The more exclusive clubs with events going on have covers like that, but not everyone is always going downtown to party! Girls have an easier time getting in for free, but guys will most likely have to pay at least 20, and there are a range of diff events in the city that don't cost as much, so again it depends on what you like. For ubers, I only saw $70 a few times, around $25-$30/$40 is more so the average (and depends on traffic and things)! This year was going to be the only year we were going to have Gucci Mane, I was looking forward to him! Our other years just had weaker artists compared to the other ivies! There's def bars around campus, campus events, frat/sorority life, and things to get into, but the Columbia bubble can get old for some people especially when you're in a city surrounded by so many other exciting things. I also think, because we're in NY, our campus vibe is more independent - so you'll find hubs of groups who like to party rather than an entire cohesive party scene. In general, there is always something happening because you're in NY, so even when campus is dry, you always have something to do!
