We get to talk with the Altered Carbon cast about the weird and wacky things they would do if they had new sleeves and immortality. Subscribe to GR+ here: goo.gl/cnjsn1
I know this is late but I just finished watching the series and I have to agree. Even though she did need to die, I did miss Reileen in the second season and I felt a greater connection between Takeshi and Rei vs him and Quell. Second season had me completely lost at times too. Like the guy said above it was sort of unecessary.
@@nickdegreef3711 Eh, Mackie is pretty good even though it was slightly disappointing that he still sounded like himself when he talked, and that in the ending they used him instead of his true appearance
I was also sceptical but quite impressed about the CGI. I liked the cast a lot, liked the created athmosphere of a Film Noir, dialogues, etc. It was no mind blower however like BSG or The Expanse, but it is somehow grounded. Altered Carbon is SciFi and not at the same time. For me it is unique and I want to see more from it.
Vitali Marco Polo was canceled? O_o Wondered why I haven't heard anything since the 100 Eyes miniseries. That's really sad, since Marco Polo was an outstanding Netflix production as well. :(
Thanks Vitali for the infos. Who the heck is so dumb to compete with GoT? The only thing competable is to stay original, like GoT before. Also I do not understand how Marco Polo could go under as a beloved Netflix show. I remember, when Season 1 came out it was quite beloved. It lost a lot of momentum because of the very late Season 2. Then again it lost a lot of momentum and for not loosing it completly for season 3 Netflix gave green light for the miniseries. I think the very late releases of the seasons were the reason for cancelation... who knows, since Netflix does not publish the viewership numbers per show. I hope there will be no long release delay for Altered Carbon coming seasons. Ohterwise it will have the same fate as Marco Polo indeed. The way it is presenting it is quite original, so itr definetely has the potential for a lot of seasons.
Well, there is. That's kind of the point of Altered Carbon. The bodies are just tools fit for purpose. What you look like has been made largely irrelevant.
So you'd say you wouldn't have watched it if only Will had portrayed him? I think there's no difference. We are merely sinners, hoping to be reborn through fiction after all.
I loved it too. This show was meant to last 1 season though. Netflix have no plans yet for a second season and Joel (Kovac/Ryker) is already doing a show on Amazon so they would have to recast him... which would be a shame as I like him too much. (no homo)
Too right! I can't wait to see if they run with the next book and look at a little more of the lore/history of this particular universe. I'm actually currently working on a Master's thesis that involves looking at the intersection of posthumanism, temporal fracture, and trauma in postmodern SciFi, so I'd love to have a little more of this specific material to work with :D.
I love the use of multiple languages in the show. Also the Animé feel, like a perfect live action. Joel was so beautiful in the film and so was Will Yun Lee - he was amazing. I was a bit thrown when I saw Yun Lee as Kovacs because I Byron Mann was presented as the original sleeve and then Yun Lee was the original sleeve. So I guess Byron Mann was his sleeve while he was on the run. I just love it all.
Awesome interview of the concept of the generational view of the future episodes. I love the concept of resleeve of characters as well as maintaining the actual characters tied to the first season. I loved all the actors of the first season and will appreciate 3 or four seasons prior to changing them for other actors. The hint of the resemblance to a Dr. Who persona is head on target.
@@when_life_gives_you_limes and that's even more apparent when Lee and Mackie are in the same scene as the same character but Mackie's acting feels nothing like Takeshi Kovacs. That was what was throwing me out all the time in season 2,Mackie just wasn't feeling like Tak.
THANK you for the acknowledgement of Doctor Who. I was 1/2 a beat away from becoming angry, but, yeah, you caught yourself and now deserve kudos for the shout out.....but dude....really?.....watch a few seasons. Thanks for the good work on this show. It was genuinely enjoyable.
I really enjoyed season 1 - sometimes I feel like interviews with the cast takes away from the phenomenal job the entire team does on creating the content.
Season 2 did most things well except it missed Joel Kinnaman, it for sure was not as good as first season though. Anthony Mackie although a good actor, for him to play Kovac it just didnt click. I think it was a big mistake to go this way.
For me, this was better than Blade Runner. Especially visual aspects of the show. I loved the story but at the same time didnt like some parts of it. Best sci-fi show up to this date. It used to be Westworld in my book.
Yeah Blade Runner was phenomenal but it doesn't hold a candle against Altered Carbon. That show was too advanced. Kalogridis could have made this story take place in the fantasy middle ages and it would still have worked.
Personally, having read the books, I am hoping they pull a 'Dexter' Follow the first book for the first season then just do your own thing. The second book was OK, and the third book was, ehh, sure...' I would love to see them keep the focus on Earth with the Kovacks, Santiago, Riker dynamic. You could incorporate elements of the later books in the series (which they did in fairly liberal amounts in the first season anyway). Seeing how the cast would interact especially with Tokeshi re-sleeved in something approximating his original interacting with Kristin and Elias would be a world of fun for me...
why no interview with Martha Higareda who played Detective Ortega who had nearly the same amount of screen time like Joel? She is the only actor who appeared in 9 episodes instead of 8, 7 or 6. if you don't count the backstory episode.
THEY ALL WERE SEXY~ (and for me~ to see "MAD" "MAX HEADROOM" as "CARNAGE"~ brought & knit it ALL TOGETHER!!~) THE ABSOLUTE BEST CAST AND SERIES I HAVE SEEN TO DATE!!!
@@OOoKarmaoOO so, what are you saying, is that we are living in AC world? That question was provocative, due to social media brain cancer. We all now why it was asked. And poor Joel, a simple nordic man, had to answer it in this manner, othervise he'd loose his job. He even recovered with that 'saving oceans' thing 😁 whatever
All in all. You gotta give it up to the actor who played 3 characters in one episode. The thug, Ortega's abuella and Dimi. He was a great actor in my opinion.
Watched it all, then read the book. Both were awesome and i suggest you find some time and read the original just to take a different view on the universe, it'll b eworth it.
I'd love another season or 2 but I'm kind of wondering how they are going to do that. They made a couple of significant changes to the lore which makes the 2 sequel books incompatible. Great show though...
His sister was not the villain in the books and the Envoys worked for the UN not against. Quellcrist falconer who is an important character was not Takeshi's love interest nor was she in the envoys.
They will probably work the rest on the seasons around kovacs and Quell reuniting and maybe taking down the UN once and for all. Though the changes were big from the book, the way they changed it and warped it gives a new and interesting take . Hopefully they keep the part about each season being on a different planet. Maybe even finding a way to reunite kovacs to his original body. We will also really get to see the niddlecasting at play as kovacs gave his sleeve back to its original owner. There are lots of ways this can go, i just hope however way they choose they writr and deliver it well. I may just be a sucker for romance but I'm super excited for the potential reunion of kovacs and quell and hopefully in bodies similar to their originals.
I mean sure if you haven't read the books it's a great series. But the Envoy/Quellcrist changes is like making Sauron the good guy in the lord of the rings. The second book is all about Takeshi fighting with the UN against an insurgency and the third is all about finding out what happened to Quellcrist. And it all ties in very well. It is fairly obvious that none of that can happen in the series adaptation of the books. So yeah I'm looking forwards to new seasons but as a fan of the books I am a little dissapointed because I feel that they squandered the opportunity to make a truly great series.
I Hope that they FIND Quells DNA, (and the sister (Rieleen) SAID~"she has her HIDDEN~somewhere"~ after the "HEAD IN THE CLOUDS" GOES DOWN~~I PRAY~ they do ANOTHER SEASON!!!
I kept the show in my list on Netflix for a couple of months because I thought it would be retarded and it turned out to be hands down the best TV show I've ever seen. If you love technology or futurism, if you love space travel detective novels then this show has it all with a excellent storyline. My only disappointment is when I was a kid my mom's TV shows came on every day year round like Days of Our Lives or As the World Turns but in our time you're lucky if you get 8 episodes a year, it's sad but an amazing show
Anthony mackie was...... Eh, he just seems like an angry kid, Joel however was simply a badass, chill under pressure and not fazed by the higher ups, I wish I could see him as ryker later on
For real. They give us Black human torch, black Deadshot, black Achilles, black Roland Deschain (Dark Tower), black Heimdall and many others ,but there's Never any talk about black washing. And besides this is a show about swapping fucking bodies all the fucking time. What a dumb question
