My biggest obstacle to losing weight is probably my husband, in week days when were not together (because I work out of town) I do great! On the weekends, he wants to eat, eat, eat and is over weight himself. I did tell him Sat, that I joined Noom and I wanted his support in doing so.

Then the guilt after. I now keep ready to snack on veggies and lean proteins for when those moments appear. It's not the cookies or ice cream I really want but I do feel massively better about myself if I make a positive choice.

Mine is mild MS and stress is mine, I want to be healthy. I count calories, works the best for me. My original weight 230 and now 144. You can do it, just patience and slow weight loss is healthy as you don’t want to lose muscle. I tell myself I’m not dieting, I’m living healthy now. You keep doing , your video is awesome. Hi Jenn...I'm a new subscriber...hello!! I have been doing Noom for the last year and it has been hugely successful for me. I am down 60 pounds and I feel and look better than I think I ever have!!! That said, I only kept my subscription for 6 months and I also dropped the articles near the end. What I did do, and continue to do, is weigh every day and log my food in the free version of the app. It helps me stay on track!!

That is great to hear. I'm getting discouraged. It honestly is a big part due to Noom's promises. When I started the program they said the plan would help me lose 80 lbs by August. Not a chance of that happening at this point. So that has stuck out to me the most as i've gone down my journey. I'm going to do what you did and use the free app for the same reasons. It's the only thing I use it for at this point . Thanks for the post it really helped me a lot.

I too tried the Noom trial. It taught me the calories of the difference foods etc. I consume. I am not a calorie counter perse. Every time I put something in my mouth I would record it and realized what was giving me the most calories, like cookies, cakes, pizza etc that I ate, mindlessly. So I got an awareness from Noom and that has helped me be more mindful. I did not subscribe to it, used the 7 day Free, and now use their app.

I’m allergic/sensitive to rice, wheat, oats, and corn, and also have fibromyalgia and chronic pain. I felt great while I was eating (vegetarian) keto, but when I broke my foot and wasn’t cooking for myself, I got out of keto, and it’s been almost two years, and I’m still struggling to get back into it. I also found out that my broken foot has not healed, which explains why standing long enough to cook a meal is so difficult for me. It’s so much easier to just make a nacho dip or frozen battered vegetables, or pick up a sub, etc. I’m really hoping that now the kids are both in school, I can muster the energy to make grain-free snacks for days I don’t want to stand and cook a whole meal.

What the Noomers don't talk about is the loneliness aspect. I will be 70, my three children have flown the coop a long time ago, my husband is 75 and self absorbed. The Dog is 13 years and not doing too good. I am alone with my carbs. I sneak eat because I just feel so left out. I am on Day 2 of Noom. We'll give it a go. At least the robot computerized responses at Noom listen to me and respond. So there.

My roadblock is health (and boredom). I lost then gained back a lot of weight due to illness.This destroyed my knees so I'm inactive due to pain, and since I'm sitting a lot, I'm bored and food has become something to do, something to enjoy filling the void of a once ,more active life.

Haven’t used Noom yet. But, when I diet, my goal was to drop 70 lb. The first 35 lb, I was dropping fast. But then after, it stops going lower, and I was still fat (lots of abdominal fat; that area of fat is statistically where diabetes or other diseases come from). I am already in 1200 calories margin (lowest possible while staying healthy). It is like a WAR for me. So, stress (and probably cortisol) is definitely an issue to me. It’s the probable reason for my continuing struggle to lose fat lb. Part of the reason for stress is looking at everyone else eating, and contemplating how I couldn’t eat like them if I’m to lose fat and be healthy. In fact, when I was already losing weight a year ago, I thought “you know what, I’ll go with what everyone else is eating. I want to enjoy myself.” And then BOOM, regained 50 lb faster than losing them. And now, I’m trying to correct that. So yeah, stress and probably cortisol is definitely making me struggle to 1) lose weight and 2) stay there.
@jpfly66
@jpfly66 Год назад
You do lose faster the heavier you are because it takes energy to move a larger body, so you are burning more calories just walking around the block. As you become lighter you it's not as much work for you body to get you around the block so you lose slower. That's OK! You also can stall yourself or lose slower by consuming too few calories. 1200 is the minimum if you are pretty sedentary. If Noom starts you out at 1340 calories that is at the beginning of the day. If you are logging your exercise (even just basic daily steps) your calorie limit rises. Noom usually allows me to eat between 1600 and 2000 calories a day.

I lost 60 lbs on Noom in 5 months (I am 59, started at 214 lbs and am now 154). I have to say, I am not sure how much I should credit Noom for that because, even though I am obviously thrilled with the result, there are things that didn't work for me, and I pretty much ignored many supposedly crucial parts of the program. The things that I kept doing consistently were 1) weighing myself every day 2) sticking to the recommended daily calorie allowance as diligently as I could 3) making some significant food substitutions that they recommended. This may well be the most important aspect, because I feel that it helped me feel less hungry than I would have if I had simply gone by calorie count, i.e., without considering the food I was eating. And yes, my breakfast has changed radically too, and I feel that that is having a huge impact on my body and my day. Seems like breakfast is really a key meal. 4) I own a smartwatch that communicates with the Noom app, keeps track of my steps and calories I burn (I think) and that is a huge help because it cuts down tremendously on the amount of logging I had to do. I think that my mileage was dramatically improved by that. I exercise every day but I have done that my whole life and that did not help me not put on weight before, because it is impossible to exercise away all the extra calories. However, by providing a unified, consistent framework within which to keep track of the food I am eating and of the calories I am burning, I think it made it much easier for me to stick with the program. I was a bit surprised to hear that you were told to consume 1200 calories a day, that seems almost dangerously low! In my case, it would start in the morning with 1550 (in general) but then as I would move around and burn calories (recorded by my watch and communicated to the app) that number would move up, and by the end of the day it would usually reach 1800-1900. I never starved on this program, really. Sounds like I am enthusiastic about it and am endorsing it unconditionally? Eh, I don't know, to be honest. There are issues with the program, the app, the coaching and I got truly annoyed at times. Let us begin with the course. The first ten lessons are useful, then they get boring, trite, cheesy and frankly silly. I stopped paying attention to them quite soon, I would give them cursory reads and eventually I started ignoring them. The app is very glitchy and has many aspects that simply do not work -- and lotsa luck getting any help! For example, it would tell me to walk that many steps every day and they would incrase every day -- nothing wrong with that but... the number increases indefinitely, without bound. I mean, seriously? By now I would have to walk around the equator every day! You would think that one of their tech would figure out where the bug is and fix it but no, they told me "eh, that's just the way it is... whatcha gonna do...". As if I am not a paying customer (and we are not talking pennies here). So, every now and then I would have to reset the number of steps to zero manually.... Kinda ridiculous really. Another thing: they have this way of classifying food into categories (red, yellow, green). Cool, seems like it might make sense, right? Well, except that when you go and log your food, the _same food_ gets labeled with a different color depending on, oh, I don't know, how you write down the name, the brand.... I have seen the same food considered red, yellow and green, depending on how I would write it down! Again, I bring it to the attention of their "technical support" and once again they tell me that nothing can be done about that (as in, nothing can be done because nothing _will_ be done). And don't get me started on the "coaching". WHAT coaching? You get someone to talk to you who at times almost sound like a chatbot who was never able to help me with _anything_ . To make things worse, they have this incredibly irritating way of turning the table on you, the paying customer who is asking for help, by telling you "how about you find a way to make this issue you're seeking help from me on, about which I can't or won't do a damn thing, your own personal challenge, and overcome it on your own? Any plans on how to do that?". Again, we are talking paying customers here.... what kind of "support" is that? I was almost expecting them at some point to go "oh, and if you do figure it out, can you please tell me how you did it, so next time someone asks for help with this same thing, I have actually something useful to tell them?".... The support group is also not very useful but I have to admit I am not really into that kind of "group hug -- kumbaya" kind of thing. And finally, and this is the most disconcerting aspect of it all, and truly makes you question the integrity of the whole thing, they do NOT have a weight maintenance option. Yup, you read it right, you get to your weight goal and they tell you, well, we can tell you how to keep losing weight but if you don't want to do that.... we kind of don't have anything to offer anymore, we cannot tell you how to stay at your current weight. I am still in disbelief writing this but, that is what I was told, and not just by one person, several coaches. One of them told me that the maintenance part of the program is "still being perfected". Oh-kay. And this is why I am canceling my subscription.... It is almosts as if they are not interested in helping you maintain your weight, they'd rather have you go and eat like crazy, regain all your weight with interest and come back.... Crazy really. So, yes, I have lost a lot of weight, I followed what they told me and I cannot say it has been a failure but.... do they really deserve the credit or is it simply that I was very motivated, they put at my disposal an app which (in conjunction with my smartwatch) allowed me to do it consistently and in a controlled way, something that maybe I could have done with another (free?) app? I guess whether I manage to keep the weight off or not will be the answer.

Stress and emotional eating. Noom is already helping me with that, only 2 weeks in. I'm hoping this helps me make good habits. Inflammation and joint pain are a bit of a hindrance with exercise currently. I've started losing weight even with no thyroid and on medication. Btw, my thryoid hormones always tested completely normal, despite weight gain, years of hypo symptoms, goiter(I just assumed I had a fat neck, too, though it wasn't hereditary for me), nodules, etc. I'll have to check out the book, thank you!!

I just subscribed to Noom yesterday so I can't speak to whether it works yet or not. But I noticed that you mentioned the thyroid so I jumped ahead to that part. My question is whether your doctor tested only your TSH numbers (which for most people almost ALWAYS come back in the normal range) or if he/she also tested for T3/T4? Because if he/she didn't, then neither he/she nor you have your complete thyroid pictures. Very few people know this. I asked my family doctor to test the T3/T4 in addition to the TSH and she won't! It's the dumbest thing ever that some doctors won't do it. So I am going to pay a lab privately to have this test done this week.
