I visited Kolkata in September and got the opportunity to travel by metro and i was very disappointed by the maintenance. The hand rails for holding inside the metro coach was unclean and had rust in many places and almost all the shiny steel handles were gathering rust. The floor was filled with dust and mud - seemed it has never been cleaned ! There was no security. If you know how other metro systems work , you'll know what I mean.
the oldest metro in India but sadly the situation is really pathetic for Kolkata metro... it will be at least 3-4 years before the other lines are fully ready while the existing NS line cant operate at 100% efficiency in the 30KM stretch due to their own incompetence, as highlighted here... as others have mentioned, they should send their staff to Delhi for trainings...
No amount of training will help these incompetent idiots. The issue is lack of competition. Everything is in-sourced, there's no incentive to do better because there's no competition. Railways bought expensive heavy equipment from the US and they did not bother to use for years. ICF designs pathetic rakes that can't even match the height of the platform. I don't think any amount of training will change the pathetic work culture.
Seems like Railways is too big an organization to pay attention to these things. It's better if Indian Railways transfers the entire control of operations & planning/execution of under construction & future corridors to KMRC like other corporations (like DMRC) have an independence in their operations & thus are much more efficient in their working & handling of issues.
you dont know i Guess, KMRC is also under railways with 74% stake ans rest 26% under Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Central Governmrnt) Railways tell state government to give funds from their side....apni mamta ko bolo paisa dene
@@dagasbharat As if there's no corruption right now. Also kindly explain what disciplinary action has been taken against the board members for not carrying out the track smoothening practice so that no harm is done to the wheels. Since this wasn't carried out in this section & hence wheels got damaged to an extent where they would be out of service for some time now. The whole concept of Accountability in Public Sector Enterprises is a big joke. Private bodies are always more efficient & accountable. BTW I guess you don't understand how these things work. When I say making KMRC the independent body for handling operations, there's a CEO who looks after the operations & that CEO is accountable or answerable to the Board Members of the DMRC for Delhi Metro & would be KMRC for the Kolkata Metro. That CEO if found not doing work correctly can even be fired. Hence he has to ensure that work is being done correctly. Also since he would be responsible for day to day working of organization, he would be able to pay a lot more attention to these puts things which could easy have been avoided. Take the case of Delhi Metro being handled by DMRC & how efficient it is. It's 100 times better than Kolkata Metro. I don't know if you have traveled in it or not but I have & I found a bog difference in the way Kolkata Metro & Delhi Metro function.
@@TechDevote Exactly what i said- Make KMRC an Independent Body in functioning including planning & implementation like DMRC. Have it 50% under Central govt. & 50% under State Govt. Funds for construction would be shared equally like is the case elsewhere.
@@advaityachandhoke1406 I guess you haven't worked up-close with WB govt departments. Since I work as contractor, I can't reveal further information. All I can say, once it becomes independent, the Bengali mentality makes it more lethargic and corrupt by Babus and politicians. Even central department can't do much more than kadi ninda.
Problem with anything in West Bengal..if people work only half day and create unnecessary obstacles in paperworks how will things progress. Situation is even worse than some Sub-Saharan country
This shows the crumbling infrastructure and the resistance to Ultra modernisation and efficient maintaince. Kolkata Metro should learn from Mumbai, both from its EMU system and the upcoming Ultra modern Metro system.
@@robinhoodsherwood2646 if you're not from Bengal, kindly STFU. You people sound so pissed off because your Gujarati overlords couldn't make a mark in WB. Enjoy being slaves to Feku and Tadipar.
@@robinhoodsherwood2646 Haha...big joke...in the name of industrialization you are giving money to industrialists...is that what you call development?? Also Kolkata metro is the most economic and revenue earning metro..as for metro in western states-jaipur metro failed to sustain properly, mumbai metro is equally worthless and expensive..carries less passenger than Kolkata metro...among south Chennai metro too doesn't carry much passenger.. Bangalore metro is a waste of resource..runs with 4 coach 🤣🤣..only Delhi metro is toe to toe with Kolkata metro..now shutup...
Kolkata metro should learn from DMRC but Mamata Banerjee is soo busy in fighting with Modi govt that she forget all these issue which ultimately creates problems for the general public but the people of kolkta always scare mamta and tmc and thats why they also face this issue. If you look at DMRC they are maintaing more then 300 km tracks without any issue and very soon they are going to open line 6 & 7 😊
All rubbish news..I stay at the same area. It can't open for public before 2-3 years atleast. That too construction goes on really fast pace, cuz Kolkata metro now wants to open it once the Majherhat is ready and its construction has just started. Also, the car shade of Joka Metro needs to build which work has just begun as well. May be 2024 or even later, based on the glorious track record Kolkata Metro has.
Good information bro, why South western railway bangalore division crs inception on important bangalore airport corridor electrification work upto chikkabbalapur almost complete, think memu train wins race vs metro

Its shameful that its failing instead of leading the country on metro rail service. Kolcutta mertro was the first metro in the country. They should send their managers in Delhi metro for training. how to make it successful.
End of debate ..employee complaied but matter was not attended.....stakes of government of India in kolkata metro and kmrc should be transferred to JICA and World Bank and government of west bengal too
This issue can be summarised as: Poor planning & coordination between all agencies and departments involved from planning, initiation, management and testing of rakes as well as poor contingency planning for the needs of the commuters of Kolkata. Hopefully, the lessons have been learned. One still wonders... why does it feel like Kolkata Metro is subject to more ad-hoc "trial and error" strategies, indecisive administrative policies, and haphazard, untested experiments than any other metro system in India? Is it a possibility that too much central bureaucracy is destroying any continuity and progress? Or are projects being internally sabotaged on behalf of other players?
Buses, Autos, Cabs are charging at their own will but Metro is not allowed to revise their fare. This is utter nonsense. Until when we keep ranting 'Goreeb manush ache sobai'. If money is not available it's common we can't place order for superior rakes. Look at those Dalian rakes and the USSR looking cheap rakes compare it with other metros of India specially Delhi Metro.
Instead of non-AC rakes, the Dalian rakes should be made operational. ICF Medha rakes have always had problems. Kolkata Metro should return to Centre-State joint ownership or Public-Private PPP. Indian railway operating this have been bumpy.
They don't have many Dalian rakes at present in car shed. Most of the rakes are waiting at China for clearance of the first few rakes that were sent. So those won't be Enough. Still I also have one doubt, kolkata metro had 13 3000 series ac metro (inaugurated in 2010's) and 14 1000 and 2000 series non-ac metro (inaugurated in 1980-90's). Total 13+14=27. But now they have 17 of new 4000 series medha ac rakes (in place of non-ac metro) and 8 out of them fell ill 😂 but still why so much shortage? 13(3000 series) +9(17-8 medha rakes) = 22 close to 27 .So why???
Indian Railways should modernize its EMU fleet in SER and ER like Mumbai and handover kolkata metro to KMRC. This is the only way to upgrade and save kolkata metro

It is ok we are still developing nations , errors occurs we must not give up and blame but find solutions , finding faults is easier but finding solutions is difficult , and indians opt easier ways
Indian railway should hand over the control of Kolkata metro to state government and kmrc, like all other metro corporations in India. They are good for nothing, we all know how they run the general railway
The only reason why such ignorance was shown in such an important project is the urgency our central government showed to inaugurate the dakshineswar extension right before election.....
if you have so problem with Central Government then please tell state government to take 50% stake and give funds for metro...why dont she wants to give funds?
The state of the art metro system has come up in our country, but all pathetic things happen with Kolkata Metro. It proves again again that how bad ICF metros are and equally worst engineering by IR.
This is what happens when the pathetic excuse of a state government doesn't want to invest in the transportation sector utilised by its own residents. Instead it's all burdened on Indian Railways which obviously doesn't prioritise Kolkata Metro. That's why you will have ICF rakes instead of BEML, Hyundai-Rotem, Alstom, Bombardier or Titagarh-Firema. ICF's expertise isn't in manufacturing world class self propelled metro rakes. The blame falls squarely on the residents of West Bengal. You get what you choose.
@@joydey7309 totally agreed. Multiple Metro projects have come up in India and no one is dependent on Indian Railways. It's only WB govt who wants to eat the cream without investing a penny.
@@debashishdas2068 I hope People of Kolkata will learn the lesson will cast the CM out as she hasn't done anything significant for the state from last decade, neither employment opportunities has come nor the standard of living has increased. Yes you are right I have too noticed repeating the line 'situation is so bad' thrice which is really '''many much multiplle times in a video'''. Those Medha rakes are awful. Just look at the height gap between the coach and the platform. You need a step/stool just to get in and out of the coach. This is what Kolkata gets for relying on ICF's monopoly. Sure, Railways incompetence contributes to rakes deteriorating faster than usual but ICF is also pretty incompetent.
The newly bought chinese raiks are very poor in quality and not suitable in Indian environment. Mamata Banerjee bought those without consulting the central Goverment ,all the payments were made in advance without taking any expert advice.
Chinese metros are top notch, may be not good for our rakes. Theey won bids, which were done by railway not mamata. But yeah making the advance payment was not a good decision
