I own a Renault Clio 172 Phase 2. It is a brilliant track car, I have taken it on 4 track days so far and nothing has gone wrong. A brilliant option for you guys.
I ran a 231 RX8 for 2 years and tracked it a few times. It was an absolute peach on track and you can get one for under £1500 now! Obvs they have their issues but as long as they are looked after you shouldn't have any problems. Plus if stripped out they are fairly light. RWD, LSD, 50:50 weight distribution and a screaming 9k rpm engine...whats not to love? Plus you get to say 'Wankel' a lot!
Hmmm, i doubt 'you shouldnt have any problems" as you will eventually. The engine wears out quicker than a standard piston engine. That's just the way it is. I know as i owned one which was 1 year old and after it hit the 6 year old mark the rotor tips went and i was up for a new engine after only 65k. i was part of the rx8 club and followed all the engine advice provided. I always wanted to track one though, you can save so much weight when ripping out that interior and yes they are cheap!
We're on a mission to find a cheap track toy! In this first episode we look through some of the best potential cars for our budget track build. With just £1400 what would you pick? Follow us on our journey into budget track car ownership, who knows where we'll end up! Next episode - car shopping!
great series guys, i used to love the GTI-6 back in the day. omg the saxo!!!! loads of people where i live bought them, well the VTR anyway, they were fast with free insurance for the first year so they sold like hot cakes ha ha. I used to know someone who had a Honda Prelude 2.2 VTI, i am talking 15 years ago though lol. bet you can pick them up for very good money now. the cars you picked probably handle better though :)
puma 1.7 is seriously cheap and underated car. as is mk6 celica 2.0 gt. out of the ones you picked I'd have to go for the saxo or fiesta tho. both light cars and easily tunable.
we did briefly consider them but the potential for the engine to lunch itself was too off putting! Great value but too many brave pills required with a purchase!
Where are The ed9 or 150hp ee8 CRX? Del sol? 106 GTI is the same as the saxo enegine/chassis but an rally icon, golf 2 gti or vr6? But nice list all of the french car have a good aftermarket full of genuine rally parts avaible ! I tried rare saxo VTS kompressor with 180hp, after i drowe a s2000 and it felt slow ! Those things can go fast but if you dont have skill you can get your self killed because snap over steer
