I’ve been working from home for a few years now. One of my fave things to do is to take a shower after my shift to tell my body we are switching to home life. Thanks for the video !
What works for me is : - Putting a timer for 30 minutes to an hour, no phone, no media, just work. - No chores, I treat my work day as if I was in an office. Chores will be for tonight. - And last but the most important for me, if the inspiration is not there, I will do something else and come back to my computer later. looking at my computer for 30 minutes is not gonna help. Change your mind and come back.
The perfect French with Dylane: Thanks so much for the tip about chores. I find that is definitely one of my greatest distractions about working from home.
My biggest issue isn’t my phone, I actually need it to get work done. My biggest issue is: -oh let me just wash these dishes real quick -oh let me just sweep this room real quick -*doorbell rings* - have to run an errand...which turns into 5 errands.. - oh let me just get the laundry in the washer... And all of a sudden - the day is over, and I’ve actually only worked for like 2 hours 😑😑😑.
Candle tip: 🕯 one thing that helps me is to light the candle on my desk, the minute I sit down and start the tasks for either of our businesses. As long as I’m working on either business, that candle has to burn and it helps to remind me to stay at my desk until I get to a good stopping point. If I get up to go do something else, I have to blow out the candle while my focus is switched. I do this for the kitchen as well, and any other room I’m working in….a reminder to stay focused instead of bouncing from room to room.
Studies show that chewing stimulates the mind. That's why teachers recommend having a snack before a test. Great way to get ideas and memory boosted.

I've been working from home for the past few years like 5 out of 7 days and I NEED these things: - get up, CHANGE (into clothes that make me feel good AND comfortable), eat breakfast within an hour (regardless of when I actually wake up, I don't set an alarm) - make a to do list for the day - work on ONE task at a time is so important! (how often would I start one task, do another in between and don't finish either) - 100% agree on lunch breaks. - put my phone on silence and only look at it once a task is done (get's difficult for certain tasks that require my phone though^^) what I don't do: - wearing make-up (I'll only wear makeup when filming or taking pictures) - wear pretty clothes that are uncomfortable (like, why?) - follow all of these rules (I mean, no one's perfect 😂❤)
So great that you emphasized "for the easily distracted" because thats definitely a lot of us, including myself. For me I like to - put my phone in a different room (or out of sight) in my apartment - start my day off writing a to-do list (knowing that I will need to integrate some non-work things in there to avoid burnout or boredom) - also start my day off with a good breakfast/tea/coffee - whenever I eat my meals I use that time for down time, I watch something or read, that way I feel way more refreshed when I get back to work or whatever task I am trying to complete Good advice, thanks for sharing!
I love the tips from Erin and the comment family! Another thing that helps me is to make a list of what I accomplished that day. This helps me to keep track of my productivity. A bonus tip is to make notes on why or why not I was able to accomplish my goals so that I can plan ahead. Making a list of accomplishments is also a great way to express gratitude toward yourself for the work that you did.
one thing that has definitely been helping me is creating tomorrow’s task list the night before. that way i know exactly what i will be working on for the day and what tasks i need to get completed within my time blocks i created. i feel like ive been so much more productive at home than at work. great tips!
Thank you for this. My biggest struggle is responding to my children’s requests but after talking with my wife about and being consistent with reminding my children that Daddy is working. I can see that they are pulling at me less. My wife did suggest that I put up a “Daddy is Working” sign which I’m gonna do right now and see how that works.
Love this tips E! It's really important to have a routine! If you don't have one you'll get distracted. Everyday that I wake up I dont pick up my phone the first 30 minutes so that I can invest in myself before i offer myself to the world.
Girl, I feel like I have found a sister from another mister! I just love you! Everything from the matching workout clothes to the candle, you get me. I have been working from home for most of the last 20 years, sometimes with 6 small kids at home (& A very production minded Asian husband, who is also my boss….🤦🏼♀️😂). Needless to say, I have developed serious ADHD and sometimes separating the the home-related work from the work-related work, is very difficult. Please keep those videos coming! Loved your tips!
Good to get some advise from someone who already has some experience. As an auto mechanic I can't do too much from home. This is an opportunity for me to focus on my online and RU-vid presence 👍
Great tips! Taking a lunch break is so important. I only gave myself 30 mins.. not enough, take an hour at least, go for a walk or meditate to slow down the mind. Thanks you.
Thank you! Love all these tips; I did some of them every now and then but to be reminded about them and incorporate them into a new routine is what I need to do!
Your advice in your videos have been very helpful Erin. My business has grown so much. I don’t spend much time on RU-vid other than watching your videos and incorporating the tips you provide. But your advice has really helped balance out my life.
Love the tips Erin I do all of these. I also have a toddler so my advice to some parents ITS OK IF THE HOUSE IS MESSY. I had to learn this I’m a neat freak but we’re not going any where it will get done later lol
I love the top three goals method. I do that as well! I love to put my phone on silent & only have the tabs I need open when I’m working to remain focused.
My sister works from home and lays on her couch while watching Disney+ and she still manages to get her work done and I’m like girl how? That’s distractions and nap enticing.
When I was working corporate I could listen to music and tv shows as background noise but NOW that I am becoming my own boss and building my business I need peace and quite to fully focus 😂
The changing clothes part is definitely true, I noticed I always shower and change before really going to work & that’s always when I wish I could do projects at home bc I’m motivated… turns out I just need to shower on my days off LOL
Forwago workout plan is the only one that makes me want to keep exercising. I love the workouts there although there are difficult ones at times but a little challenge never hurts !! Maybe, you should also give it a try.
Also helps to set a timer for when you want a social media break. I know for me I've said, "I'm only going to be on for 10 min," and then 2 hours later, I'm still reposting and commenting on stuff.
Erin great video! Classic “ HaHa laugh” about food that was hilarious. A lot of great tips here, random question tho. Do you link all your source of your income through your business or is your “youtube money” directly towards you? Something I was thinking about being that I started my own RU-vid channel, publishing a book soon and starting a coaching business. Not sure if it should umbrella it all under the LLC
i work from home as online personal trainer it is very easy to get distracted. getting dressed and doing my makeup makes me feel more productive. im a trainer so i wear workout clothes lol. my morning routine is wake up 4:30 and meditate, go over my schedule and drink coffee. at the gym by 6:30. back home by 8sh. showered and changed by and ready to work by 9ish. i dont book any meetings before 10am.
you are probably well educated, or your family provided you good education source, you used it well, good for you. I've growed up in a very poor family, did not have the chance and money to go to university... although I really wanted to...:) I wish i could live the nice apartment that you have there, even just for one night.... but anyway, good to watch your video....
I use a lot of these tips but I have to put my phone across the room with “priority calls only” on. Or else every text, call or dm will distract me. I also have to juggle my kids around my work day 🤦🏽♀️
Peace and Blessings! I appreciate your video. I am currently working from home- some of these tips I do and others I defiantly needed to hear! lol Give thanks, also- what is your Facebook group called? I remember in one video you mentioned something about a group for Entrepenuaers.
I have an app on my phone called “Today.” It helps me to stay on track. It reminds me to do certain things everyday. I love your top 3 task idea. Will you please do a video about how to grow your Facebook Group. How to make it impactful. Thank you for the tips. 😘
I have had a lot of issues getting my business handled professionally since people have been working from home. I have had to deal with extreme rudeness, unprofessionalism, and just plan incompetence many times. It seems as if many of those working from home aren't capable or able to do their jobs without constant supervision, or being in a professional, business environment. You wouldn't believe what I've had to deal with as some of these people are resisting going back to work outside of the home. Of course they don't want to go back. Most of them aren't being responsible and doing their job.
