Luxury brands are not for everyone, its geared towards people who have huge disposable income who has an affinity towards signature/private brands. If you're reasoning is that a bag is too expensive just for regular use, you're not the target and people who are the target consumer have every right to tell you to SHUT THE FUCK UP! LMAO
I think that everybody buys luxury brands for the hype to at least a small degree. After all, if we only wanted the particular style of the bag, there are countless cheaper alternatives we could get. We are all slaves to marketing and the prestige of designer labels. That said, I loved this video! It was a very unique and welcomed departure from most glowing reviews. Thanks for being so fabulous!
I totally agree with you. Its all about the hype of Society. I give a hoot about it, l will Dupe my way to whatever bag l want, and still have monies left over. I Dont see myself spending 1000's of dollars for a damn bag. That money can go farther on constructive things. So, l have plenty of Dupe bags, and they are gorgeous, and lm not BROKE!! hahahaha.!!
There are but i have to say the older Chanel's hold the test of time. I have a hand me down from my mom and its over 20years old. Another one is about 30yo now. And in very good condition
I personally decided to buy a luxury brand bag (preloved, like new) as soon as I paid off my debts. Years of buying cheap bags that only last 3 months, tops, add up to saving for a bag that will last me years.
I wholeheartedly agree with your points, especially about the Hermes Birkin, I love it on other people but it is not my personal style at all, yet even still I almost talked myself into getting one! I will only add three things to consider when deciding whether a Chanel is for you, or which Chanel is for you: 1) Do you have a car? I live in Los Angeles, where a car is a necessity. Because of that, I don't have to carry my life in my bag (like I did when I lived in New York) so I get a lot more use out of my Chanel medium classic flap. 2) What is your physical stature? I am short and small so the jumbo is much too big for me but the medium classic flap I can wear every which way. 3) What do people around you wear? In LA, I've seen Chanel bags at the gym, the grocery store, wherever. Seeing them worn so casually affects how I wear mine. Anyway, just my two cents, hope it helps!

I live in a small town where rarely see people wear luxury bags, my friends don't wear luxuries except one single friend doesn't need to invest in her family. Your comments make sense to me not to buy luxury bags.

I wouldn’t ever get pre loved bags because I am crazy OCD and thinking about what has been in there and how the other person cared for it and what kind of home it came from would just drive me insane so I prefer brand new bags.
I remember one time I bought a used purse and it was awful. It was dingy and battered and smelled on the inside. Just awful. Never again. I like buying my handbags new also.

To me these price increases are showing Chanel’s incredible arrogance and that really turns me off the entire brand as a whole. I know it’s logical profit maximising, but given that they’re so huge and so frequent it reeks of price gouging which I detest. I used to like the brand but I was never in love the way others are, these past few years have only sealed that it’s a hard pass from me now to any Chanel.

I appreciate you doing this video because i was starting to feel a little weird for not living Chanel!!!! I have been collecting handbags for quite some time and I just sold my one and only Chanel bag. I know I should love them because everyone seems to. I mean they are gorgeous! But the chain would constantly fall off my shoulders and and getting in and out of a flap bag was just annoying. And the prices are OUTRAGEOUS for the jumbo which is the size I prefer. I couldn’t fit anything into a small flap! I had to face the cold hard truth that I just don’t love the bags! I much prefer LV and Gucci and Fendi with more reasonable prices for my lifestyle and i can’t help it, i love logos with top zips and top handles! I’m a basic speedy girl I guess!
I agree -- my number one thing I would tell someone considering buying a flap bag - it is ANNOYING AF to close that bag when you are in a hurry. Number two - that chain constantly slips off your shoulder. However, I also have a Chanel WOC, and I love that one so much more than my flap bag, and it was about 2/3 the price. Go figure.
I wear my Chanel flap bags casually by wearing it crossbody. Nobody notices. I say if you spent $5,000k, you better be wearing it because then what’s the point? Enjoy yourself. Any day can be your last day.

I own a few Chanel bags and find Chanel bags are very well made, superb , buttery leather which I really love, about the weight it will depending on which style bag you use for. Evening gathering I normally use a smaller and light weight Chanel elegant flap bag to pair with my outfit, daytime outing normally I use a Chanel tote bag for general functions. Chanel bags are pricy bags so as all other name-brand bag also came with a high price tag. I think a few key elements we should take into consideration when buying a Chanel or any other name brand bags:: PRICE; QUALITY; STYLE & FUNCTIONALITY I like many of Chanel bags due to its elegance & subtly, most of all, they function well & suite my style perfectly.
I love Chanel bags since the first time I saw one😱😱😱I remember to feel mesmerized by it. I have seen a Birkin and I did not feel anything. In my opinion you can use a Chanel bag with almost any kind of cloth and almost in every day events it is just a matter of balancing the outfit. 😉😉😉
Honestly, Chanel has the worst customer service. My bag has been with them since Aug Sep 2018 and upto now April 2019 Chanel has not fixed the discoloration issue on pink rectangular mini flap. I was informed they cannot do anything to restore or fix it. So it's not value for money. And yes I experienced so many quality issues with Chanel bags which makes me not want to buy and add any more Chanel bags in my handbag collection...
that's unfortunate. my hardware on my jumbo flap had some normal wear & tear first the first time after 7 years. when i brought to the store, the repair specialist said that's normal wear & tear and chanel can certainly fix/replace it at a cost (i think ~$120) but she waived it without even me asking. She told me it would take 6-8 weeks but it was ready for pick up after 3-4 weeks. They were so nice to me even though I wasn't even buying anything.
As with LV, since 2005, the quality of the construction has gone downhill. I have only authentic bags in my collection until last week and now I am the proud owner of a 1:1 mirror image replica. The authentic brands I love have cheapened to the point where they are just not worth the money anymore. $6K? Nope.

I love the look of the Chanel flaps but they aren’t for me. I bought a Kate Spade bag before Christmas to try the style. It is similar to the small or medium flap and I haven’t used it. I’ve gone to use it several times but it never feels right for me. I will just admire from afar!🛍
I also don’t understand what is the hype about Hermes . I genuinely don’t like any of their bags , I have them associated with old French ladies with a little dog on their arm, strolling along the sea on the Côte d’Azur . Not my vibe . 😁

I got myself a preloved medium business affinity bag .. i always dreamed of the classic but when i saw the BA .. i knew it was the it bag of Chanel for me & immediately got it without doubts. I use it regularly almost everywhere .. its perfect for cross body but i use it on shoulder & u can wrap the chain to reduce the length of it .. perfect option of a bag really

I bought Jumbo mainly because you told that is the best size. it is too heavy, too bulky for me. I bought square mini because I wanted something for an evening. it is fine. but I think if I have only medium size it would not need two. medium is good for evening and would be much better for me for all other occasions. In both bags I dislike strap length as you told. Still I am happy that I am an owner of two chanels and want more of course.
Today I bought the dupe of the jumbo flap bag for myself today, and I absolutely love it for the size and the same versatile color (black). I could NEVER spend the $$$$ but I'm ecstatic that you are happy about your purchase. Loved your review and as a bag lover I say as long as you look fabulous in whatever you purchase then rock on!

I have a Jumbo Classic Flap in black caviar leather. I bought it in the Rue Carbon store as a very special 50th birthday treat some years ago. I absolutely love the look and feel of it. It just exudes luxury and I often find myself just looking at it and touching it 🤣🤣 BUT, it is ridiculously heavy and if you do fill it to it’s full capacity, it becomes almost impossible to wear due to the weight. It is also very awkward to use with the double flap and not an easily organised bag. I find myself thinking carefully about where I wear it (I don’t want a Carrie Bradshaw moment ) which is particularly awkward given that the time I most want to wear it is when I’m visiting London, or another big city, which is the time that I also feel most vulnerable. I wouldn’t dream of wearing it outside unless it was cross body, which as you say is extremely awkward and not that visually appealing. SO, I’m really glad that I have my Chanel Jumbo Flap bag, but it’s definitely more of a ‘treasure’ to enjoy at home, and not a practical bag at all. I wouldn’t buy one again and at times when I could do with an injection of cash, I do find myself thinking of selling it, but I can never quite bring myself to say goodbye to it. Ultimately, it symbolises a point in my life when I had achieved my career goals and could afford to treat myself.
I bought the Chanel wallet on chain last year, I love it and it goes with everything 🥰 I keep telling myself it’s an investment.. but for £1800 I won’t be buying another Chanel anytime soon or ever! I’d rather buy a LV
I really like how honest you are , instead of raving ,,, I saw a certain lux youtuber who I typically like say Every women should own a chanel bag ,, for myself I just feel they look like an older women’s bag & I am 50 , they are just to dressy for my style ,,, almost pulled the trigger on a WOC , but just could not justify spending that for a wallet , so I bought some Gucci shoes , couple of things from LV ,,😄
There are plenty of other Chanel styles out there besides the classic flaps. Fashionphile has a ton. I bought a Chanel bag from there that I’ve never seen anyone with and I get compliments every time I wear it. It’s still a Chanel bag after all, and I paid a fraction of what the classic flaps cost. If you’re not in love with the classic flap but want something Chanel, check out some of the other styles pre-loved!

It has satisfied my need/want for the brand. My only reason not to buy Chanel is: the lack of money 😂 My personel luxury was buying a Furla Metropolis. I love spend money on bags but I can afford more brands like Ralph Lauren, Guess or Tommy Hilfiger. But I love your videos they are informative.
I have a small (225) reissue and love the strap drop length. I have to have bags that I can crossbody and love that about the reissue. This is something that always deters me from purchasing the cc classic flap, because the strap drop length is shorter, which doesn’t make sense. Ideally I would want a m/l in that style, but the fact that I wouldn’t be able to crossbody is a no go for me. I wish they would make the chain length the same across the board for the classics as well as the other bags. I have two WOCs and they both have really long strap drops. I think that’s what drives me crazy the most.

Constance Eruotor I’ve always liked Chanel’s longer straps, but I cannot style the shorter ones at all. I’m very tall. I can see how this would definitely be a problem considering everyone is a different height with different preferences.
if you want to shorten the longer chanel straps, use a velcro strap, or the chanel ribbon. that's what I do to shorten the strap on my jumbo when I want to use it as a shoulder bag.

Amy, this is such a great video. For the longest time I’ve felt like I “should” have a Chanel classic flap bag, but every time I go to pull the trigger, I end up buying something else with the money. Instead I went with Mulberry Lily. I got it in black and I love it😊 (and it was brand new, I paid 1,195€ for it, which is still a lot, but it’s brand new and waaaay cheaper than Chanel and the quality is amazing!)

There is so much hype on this bag I feel sometimes people get to a point where they believe they "should" have one to have style, or a really great "valid" bag collection, and "it's always a safe bet". I absolutely adore the look and feel of Chanel bags! They are classics for a reason. I was able to recently purchase my first Chanel, a medium flap on the second hand market for well below what even that market demands. It’s beyond gorgeous and is certainly the crown jewel in my handbag collection! It will probably be my only Chanel as the costs are just astronomical. I looked up pricing here in the US for new Chanels. Currently the mini is $4,400 USD, the 19 is $5,700, medium is $8,800, jumbo is $9,500, and the maxi is $10k! I will have to content myself with my one Chanel and my bigger collection of COACH, Saint Laurent, and Polènes…and I’m perfectly happy with that. 😊
Chanel is not a bag that can be worn everyday, until ur profession or lifestyle requires. I love my Chanel jumbo, any day i would love to purchase more Chanel

I definitely wish a video like this went up two years ago when I bought my m/l. There are only a handful of occasions where I have used it, and the last time was almost a year ago. It will be a relief to sell it on to someone who will actually use it.
I always think Birkin will be heavy and impractical. However, I just bought b 30 yesterday, it's amazing how it turns out to be light ,practical and suit my daily outfit (jeans, tee and vans )

I agreed with u. Chanel increases their prices yearly. Thats crazy! I love bags but not too much to own many of the same brand bags. I think it is awesome to have a small flap for special occasion and a decent size (like coco handle size M-L) for daily use.

Great video.. Just a tip the jumbo chain if it falls too long clip it inside to shorten it, either with a chain clip or a Chanel ribbon tied between the links. For reference I'm 5"6 and love cross-bodying mine to the length that works for me by this method.
At 5’9 hearing what you said about the length of the chain on the jumbo has only make me want it more 💖. I constantly find that the chains on bags are too short for my frame.
This is very true... I was originally going for the medium/large, but I'm 5'11 and it looked silly across the body. Whereas the jumbo ♥ looked perfect! The strap was long enough for crossbody and doubled up as the shoulder bag. The bag isn't as heavy or bulky as I thought it would be.
I could not agree more with you Amie about the Birkin. I would rather have another jumbo in my collection than a Birkin, like you said “unless is given to me of course, then I will take it” but other than, I personally do not see the reason to get one in my collection as it does not fit my lifestyle at the moment. I have the jumbo but it is too heavy I never wear it. So I got small one in red , white , beige I wear them occasionally . I used to be crazy about Chanel I have noticed that over the years I have been using the small ones wallet on chain and other seasonal ones. I stopped buying because the quality has changed yet the prices increased . so I feel they are not respecting the customers. I put my recent bags vs my old one (from 9 years ago ) and it is so different , the new one look cheap , while the older one had a better hardware & better leather .
You're spot on re classic flap odd sizes and strap lengths. I adore the classic flaps that my eyes would go really wide whenever I see one! I had a medium flap but found it to be too small; the jumbo in caviar too heavy; the mini quite annoying for lacking card slots, so I sold all of them. Eventually I got a 227 Reissue but I sold it too and got a 226 instead. The 226 is a perfect size, lightweight, fuss-free and perfect for crossbody but I don't love the look as much as the classic flaps. I'm still keeping it and have been using it the most aside from my WOCs. Recently I bought a red jumbo CF in lambskin and am loving it so far as it's not as heavy as caviar and isn't as delicate as what most people make it out to be. Hopefully this one is a keeper besides the 226 :)
Everything you’ve said is true. I have 2 jumbos and a WOC and none of them are really the perfect bag for various reasons. I love them but they aren’t perfect 🤣 good video x

Loved this video! I bought a jumbo because of all the hype, but only used it a couple of times since it was overwhelming on my petite frame. I replaced it with a m/l thinking I would use it more, but ultimately the mini is my favourite size!

Love your channel, and this a great video idea! I do have to say that I'm not sure I agree with number 1. There is not one style of Chanel bag. They have many different styles ranging from formal to very funky and out there. There is much more to Chanel bags than just the classic flaps. I do completely agree with you that the Chanel price increases are out of control. I don't think I will be buying any more new Chanel bags. They don't seem to be worth the money. For my current lifestyle I don't use expensive bags on an everyday basis. Chanel is a going out, evening out, special occasion bag or travel bag for me. Considering that I bought a black/gold square mini and a burgundy/brushed gold WOC. I really don't see myself carrying a classic flap small or M/L even though I see it everywhere and on everyone in the middle East. I can't justify the price and the cost per wear of the bag.

I agree about the price per wear being so high. I think you can make a Chanel you’re every day bag, but like you said in your other point, you need to really think about how the bag will fit your lifestyle. I just sold my Jumbo to my mom for this reason (with the understanding that it will be coming back to me someday 😁), but I bought a business affinity that will be my daily bag.

Before 2007/8 most people thought the Chanel classic flap was a granny bag. I blame social media and people following each other and copying each other for the increase in luxury goods prices, especially Chanel. Gosh I miss the days when the classic flap was not so popular. I cringe a little when I hear people say it’s a classic and will never go out of style. Well there was a time when a lot of people would not carry a classic flap for fear of being caught with a granny bag lol, and they were off loading them for cheap. I don’t think people remember this time. I’m sure it’ll probably recycle back around one day where the classic flap will not be as desirable. I think a lot of people buy them today just because.
I only buy Chanel bags I can use. I still have to really be convinced to buy a flap bag. I have a denim blue caviar mini which works really well with my casual style, the Duma backpack, and the black caviar large easy flap. I feel like the classic flap is too formal whether small or m/l and the jumbo is too heavy for my frame, while the boy is far too much money for looking too casual. 🤩

Last year, I went to a Chanel boutique in Las Vegas and tried the classic flag bag in jumbo and small...it looked gorgeous and looked more gorgeous on me! It really is a beautiful bag yet so expensive! Buying the bag is a serious purchase like buying house or a car especially when you don't have cash to burn. For now, I'm giving myself time to save money and think about all factors such as financial situation, cost per wear, and lifestyle when it comes to buying a classic flag bag.
The preloved market is worse or just as much as retail , I also really like how you are not acting like the prices are normal , I just saw Anothet lux YT do a 19,000 chanel haul , I think that’s a bit tacky to put the amount in the thumbnail ,, just my opinion !
