All of the forms have some sort of somersault to intimidate the enemy, but are the animal imitations really necessary? I imagine an opponent taking out the "toad" form practitioner as he hops around, and there are a few parts of other forms that have me questioning their lethality.
You are correct in questioning the combat effectiveness in a lot of that stuff. Those are contemporary Wushu forms. The traditional animal forms contain almost no acrobatics at all, and tend to translate animal movements into corresponding human movements rather than imitating them.

These styles in a nutshell Mantis: Random movement Duck: move your hands and fall Gorilla: crawling and backfilping Snake: always use flexibility Tiger: KICK Toad: AGILITY
@@saraths6842 True, that stuff would not be very effective in a real fight. That's because it's contemporary Wushu, which is basically just acrobatics. Look up the traditional animal sets from Hung Gar or Choy Lee Fut, and you will see the difference. Not saying they are super effective either, but at least they are a lot more geared towards actually using against an opponent than the stuff in this video.
