As to whether it's worth doing an FRCO, that really depends on why you want it. That sort of exam is great for providing focus and incentive to work: a goal to reach up to. The actual qualification in itself is unlikely to make a huge difference in your life, but the process of getting there might do so. Give it a shot - and good luck! Tim

Chiasm. Ancient literary structural device, which puts one statement (usually the most significant one) dead centre, nested inside a whole sequence of other statements that match each other on each side, rather like nested brackets in an equation (or nested html tags if you're into web design). So it produces a structure that you might describe as EDCB-A-BCDE. My favourite chiasm (possible the greatest chiasm ever written) is the biblical story of Noah, which centres on God turning his attention to Noah (Genesis 8:1), with no less than 15 matching statements on each side, reaching from the mention of Noah in Genesis 6:10a to the mention of Noah in Genesis 9:19. Absolutely incredible feat of design, especially given that this chiasm contains a unit of mini-chiasms along the way, and that the second half of it also shadows the creation narrative step by step. Absolutely breathtaking. My point here, though, is that the CBABC structure of this piece doesn't seem quite deliberate enough, nor is the middle section significant enough, to properly be regarded as a chiasm. But it would have been a nice thought ... Tim
