Hello. Dr. Eric. What about those of us who have kidney disease Membranous Nephropathy.. What should we consume. There are some foods that you tell us to consume. But do they harm us.. Please help me.. Creatinine is within the norm ...
my dad in his 70's eats fish he catches every day w other food generally healthy but his legs have alot of edema and often he has gout. he generally tzkes supplements but likely isnt taking it correctly. i feel he is likely out of right ratio of potassium, magnesium but I need to try anything to help him. its been like this over a year. please help.
My mother used to take her 'water pills' and often in a few days she would call me to take her to the hospital because she was so weak she couldn't stand. I would tell her she needed potassium (I knew from experience)... Of course, she wanted to hear a doctor say it so we went to the emergency room and they always gave her potassium plus lots of tests. One thing to remember is that low potassium can also cause muscle spasms/cramps and the heart IS a muscle. Several times she thought she was having a heart attack, and she NEVER had one in 92 years! It was always potassium- not that they always told us that, but she always had a bag of potassium on her IV. I bought her potassium and I told her she needed 3 or 4 several times a day, but she said they upset her stomach... God, I miss her❣ So much.🙏🏻
Dr Berg, please do a video about Lipedema for us women who are suffering from this disease. So many doctors have no idea how to help us but just tell us to eat less and move more or push weight loss drugs. We need a trusted and informed doctor like you guiding us. Thank you!
Have you tried a gut repair diet, if I may suggest it. Like the gaps diet. Probiotic rich fermented foods everyday. Only good healthy fats, like olive, coconut, butter, cheeses, meats, fish. Probiotics are very important for hormonal balance and so much more. It could greatly help.
Congestive Heart Failure is number one reason. You won't know you have it unless you get specific heart imaging (not the enzyme tests which can say your heart is fine when its not). Lost my best friends mom to it a few weeks ago. She weighs 120 lbs her whole life and before she died she weighed 170! That's how much fluid her body retained. She got it after the booster shot
I added 13kg withing a year after I got the shots. It's crazy, initially I was always coming down with fever like twice a month then weight gain. I've been suspecting the covid shots
After the Booster shot is when edema showed up, and I had to go to urgent care. However, they were clueless in urgent care as to what to do. That's the type of medical expertise we, the general public, are left with - a big idonno!
@@Pbcvl yes and also removing all the bad habits like alcohol, cigarettes, soda and fast food/processed foods…it was bad! Depression and fear kept me down but not anymore with a healthy lifestyle and mindset. 😁
Causes for edema: 1.Sugar & high carb diet, spike in insulin; take low carb diet 2.consuming lot of sodium; low potassium 3.low protein; fix kidney & liver problems 4.heart problem 5.thyroid; hyper & hypo 6.fat in the lower part of the body 7.medication side effects: calcium channel blockers, diabetic medications & steroid 8.lymphedema
I have arthritis and did an experiment on myself to see if sugar is actually as bad as some people say and I found out it is worse than some people say. Sugar causes so much inflammation it should be considered toxic in any amount.
How long were you off of sugar before you felt a major difference in your arthritis? And does small amounts of fruit, like apple or blueberries, also cause the same response in your arthritis?
@@Ravenheart_ It took about a month to get rid of the flare-up I used ACV with lemon stevia in my water which I drink everyday. For me I can't have any berries or fruit except lemons or limes because it hurts my joints where I have a hard time walking and getting out of bed.
THANK-YOU!!!! I can't tell you how glad I am that I found this video!!! Almost 3 years ago, I was in a car accident and packed on weight from depression. I had 6 bulging discs in the back, bursitis in right leg, torn meniscus on left leg, cracked clavicle, and a torn rototator cuff on left side. I lost my job at the time, my mobility, and my will. Then covid hit. Our hospital only did life or death procedures and my surgeries were canceled. Miraculously, I healed alot on my own, but I easily gained over 150 pounds. I have been on keto for over a year now and I'm getting the weight off. Due to injuries from car accident, exercise Is limited. I have an office job now, which leads to alot of sitting, and because I get charlie horses, and spasms I usually sleep in a sitting position. I know keeping sodium low is important, but not always avoidable. On keto, alot of fruits are forbidden, so other options unfortunately have salt. My legs both look like bats. I knew I was missing something and I bought a bunch of different vitamins and keto friendly gummies and supplements, I just didn't know which one works best. I am going to focus on potassium. THANK-YOU!!!!
@@Drberg thanks 😊 Health is getting better, I've lost over half the weight. My only problem is swollen legs/feet. I'm confident this will correct that.🙂
Hi Dr. Berg, I passed on a video of dizzy spells to my mom and the recommendations you gave healed her immediately. Thank you. I am 54, fit and healthy, excellent eating habits, no alcohol or medicines yet have been periodically been getting edema in my feet and ankles. I realized that its timed perfectly with my indulgence of marijuana. I gave up my compulsive use a few years ago but still partake a few times a year but when I do I smoke daily until the stash is gone. Then I go four or six months without. I noticed the edema begins within two days of daily smoking and then gradually disappears over five days after halting. After watching this video I'm guessing it has to do with my diet changes (munchies) when stoned. I googled this and got no information until I watched your video. I wont be indulging in marijuana anymore and will be modifying my diet and exercise more to protect my heart. Thanks again.
This is one of the reason Berg is amazing. I didn't KNOW I had this and it was called Edema. I always thought it was super wierd my lower legs would do this... I had it for years and just thought it was "normal"... wierd, but normal. In 2016 I went Keto and I just thought because I lost over 100 pounds it was wieght loss that made it go away. I was for sure diagnosed Pre-diabetic and was at 315 lbs. I got down to 195-200 and all sorts of good things happened thanks for Dr. Berg. Exema, Edema both disappeared. I've never felt better so Thanks for saving my life! So much knowledge to be gained on this channel.
I find it very assuring,Dr. Berg, that in your videos you mention your own inner demons and battles that you have had, i.e. edema, bad eating and drinking in the past, etc. It gives me such hope to see how you have been able to conquer your problems, so that I can conquer mine, and in your videos you cover so many issues that we could possibly think of as even minimal deterrents ❤
I have cleared my edema practicing what I learned watched predominantly your info casts. Man 🖤 knowledge is worthless unless you practice it and share it. I'm grateful you share. Thank you Sir.
I have secondary Lymphedema and yes MLD, compression garments, and workouts to help pump the lymphatic fluid up the leg really help. Our soleus muscle is our "2nd heart" and helps pump fluid so important to activate it. The other thing I do to keep my swelling way down is eat a very clean diet, especially avoiding sugar.
Thank you for sharing! This makes sense as I've recently switched to wide toebox, zero drop barefoot shoes to regain full range of motion in my feet and ultimately legs and just after a month I've noticed it really helping to keep the swelling down. Sadly I think people don't realize the damage we're doing to our feet, legs, and whole body when we wear modern shoes all day because they look good, have super cushions, or are designed for some specific sport
@@Artbug hi thank you for sharing this, can you please also share what tipe of shoes you are actually wearing ..I'm really struggling with shoes specially during the summer with my sweollen foot.. Thank you so much
@sellydaniel1576 there are lots of good brands like vivo, xero, and merell, but the ones I got were from FeelGrounds. Things I look for in a shoe are thin flexible "barefoot" sole (which were surprisingly no thinner than some heels that i already wear), zero drop sole (flat sole, absolutely no heel), and a wide toe box (so your toes naturally spread as you walk instead of bind together unnaturally)
I’m 37 and was diagnosed at the age of 17 with Edema. It has fully ruined my life. I’ve never been given anything for it as I was told it’s untreatable but it’s just the most uncomfortable thing ever, it’s ruined any going out plans, I cant wear certain shoes, my legs feel extremely heavy the majority of the time. For me it’s been hard because I used to sprint for my county and school when I was young and then to one day wake up and have this swollen ankle which is now both ankles and goes up my legs. The minute the weather gets warmer again it just irritates the edema and starts to make everything get swollen even more. I’m going to try to give this all a go and see what happens. I know when I loose weight that’s always helped before so I will keep Trying and pray that my feet might be normal one day…that would be the biggest present ever waking up and knowing I’d got rid of this edema. Thank you for your help!
I had this 10 0r 20 years ago, I never even knew it was a thing, I just thought it was weird my legs got dents in them when I pressed. I figured it was dehydration. I am ok with it now. Thank you so much Dr Berg PS A lot of things off with me slowly went away when I started taking B Vitamins every day and cut out Beer.
Very timely video. I just got back from a 3 day trip with my husband and my legs and feet are very swollen. I did consume fast food, high carbs and sugar. This is helpful.
Thank you for this video Dr Berg! Its a little sad to see there is so little research and understanding into lipedema and lymphadema, but reading these comments hearing other experiences is giving me some great leads😊 God bless!❤
Thanks Dr Berg for posting this. I had swelling in my ankles and decided to reduce salt and increase potassium. Literally a few days in and the difference has been dramatic. Swelling completely gone, feel so much better generally. Even my tinnitus has virtually gone. I've since looked it up and seen that too much salt reduces the blood flow to the ears and can cause tinnitus. This is a real game changer for me, I can't tell you how grateful I am.
Hello and thank you for your time, effort, and patience you display. You don't know how you touch and bring much-needed relief along with joy of your honesty in explaining the importance of replacing vital minerals and the productive use of vitamins 😊. There's so much more that can be said about the work you and your lovely wife is doing for the less informed. Thank you, Dr. Berg and your wife. Psalms 37:37; Jeremiah 29:11; 😊. For you two.
Edema, or swelling caused by fluid buildup in the body, can be caused by a variety of factors. Heart failure, kidney disease, and liver disease can all disrupt the body's fluid balance and lead to edema. Pregnancy and certain medications can also cause fluid retention and edema. Inactivity and injuries to the legs or feet can also contribute to swelling. Lymphedema, a condition where the lymphatic system is unable to drain fluid properly, is another potential cause of edema. Treatment for edema depends on the underlying cause and may include medication, lifestyle changes, or medical procedures. Thank you for opening our eyes.
Bread and sugar caused my venous insufficiency and swelling in the knee down. Having vein ablation soon, in the meantime I went full keto and that pretty much cleared everything up but the damage was done. One that’s fixed and I stay on keto and keep working on strengthening the veins and circulation, hopefully it’ll be ok.
@@markmeadows7093 thank you 😊 had the vein treatment in one leg and it’s all better, other leg in 2 weeks! Now I know how to prevent it from happening again, at least not as fast
i asked my Dr why dont we fix the CAUSE of the issue, he says WHY when you can keep taking this drug....worst answer ever!!! Veteran Affairs Dr of course, the worst!!!! they need to be investigated
#6- pregnancy related; the doctor ordered all kind of tests, monthly, with no clear answers to my Pillsbury Dough Boy transformation. I started at 125 lbs and gained 10 lbs of weight a month, did not eat sugar, had nausea for the entire 9 months + 2weeks,had heartburn the last three months of pregnancy. Could not eat chicken, it was a triggering word, sight, smell, could not read the word without having a nausea attack. It so happened that a good friend of my husband's opened a Chinese restaurant, and we did frequently eat Chinese food,so I suspect MSG now. I don't eat fast food, and truly I didn't have much appetite, so how did I gain so much weight is puzzling. The edema in my lower legs was very bad towards the end of pregnancy. Had a healthy, 11lbs,23 inch long son 😊 . (Should have changed my doctor, for a secon, or third opinion. )
You are a mind reader Dr. Berg! I was looking for this information as I am doing research for my mother. This video is definitely helpful for my research.
Doctor, can you talk about how to maintain focus and energy while studying and how to avoid forgetting information🌸 is really important topic for the students
He’s made a few awesome videos on focus, on learning, on memory, on the brain & nervous system. These are probably some of those I’m most thankful for. I used to be unable to study normally. As unable to focus and sooooooo hungryyyy after only 1:45 of studying… Despite having eaten 3 big full plates of foods…. Right before study time! God! You are lucky to find him now.
Potential causes and remedies for edema: 1. Consuming a high-sugar, high-carb diet What to do: • Get on the ketogenic diet 2. Consuming sodium without potassium What to do: • Consume foods high in potassium, an electrolyte powder high in potassium, or take a potassium supplement (you need 4700 mg of potassium a day) • Avoid MSG 3. Low protein in the blood What to do: • Focus on natural ways to support your liver and kidneys 4. Heart issues What to do: • Support your heart naturally 5. Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism What to do: • Consume iodine • Support the thyroid 6. Lipedema What to do: • Go on a low-carb, high-fat diet 7. Medication side effects What to do: • Talk to your doctor about natural alternatives 8. Lymphedema What to do: • Try manual lymphatic drainage • Wear compression garments • Try low-level laser therapy • Exercise consistently Thank you Dr Berg!! 🐱👍🏿
Penpoint: Lantus/Bolus Insulin caused Swelling/Edema in legs Switched to Lymujve/Bolus Insulin made the Edema/Swelling worse. Took myself off the Bolus (using long term only - Treseba) eliminated all salts except for sodium in foods. Dead serious about what I eat. The Edema is subsiding now. Diabetic's careful. Best words I ever heard from a nurse. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. TY DR. BERG for all you free of charge Videos. You have really helped me.
Dr Berg, first and foremost thank you! Secondly, I started having Edema when I turned 20. All on my right foot, and just prior to that, I developed jaundice. Recovered from jaundice, but then this and ever since I have had health issues, and eventually I lost my gallbladder. Now I have joint pains, autoimmune issues, massive migraines which I had since I was a child, it’s amazing I am still alive. Any suggestions?
Migraines are usually diet related. Common triggers are milk, cheese, chocolate, coffee and anything red like tomatoes, berries, red wine. U may not have to cut them out completely but just reduce considerably. Experiment.
Kudos for acknowledging LIPedema. The majority of MDs have no idea what I'm talking about when I bring it up as it is not acknowledged in medical training. A very common female condition that leads to a host of complications including joint degeneration. Social isolation and consequent mental health issues as well. No treatment if it is not acknowledged. Incredibly frustrating.
Thank you for your information. I have DM2, insulineresistant, been on strict keto (5-10 gr carbs) IF and OMAD 3 times a week plus 1 egg day a week for over 3 month now. My body refuses to let go weight/water. After 3 weeks I finally lost 3 liters of water. Now in total 4.5 kg. Nothing happens on the scale, very frustrating. Almost carnivor, taking all the supplements, take collagene, k2, Kalium, B complex, iodine , D, inuline, magnesium, drink 2 liters a day, walk 10000-14000 steps a day. Still bloated feeling, still edema and not losing weight. I am lost😊
Have you tried upping your potassium? I take Dr. Berg's electrolyte drink mix that has 1,000 mg of potassium per serving. Most electrolyte drinks/mixes have more sodium than potassium, but not Dr. Berg's. I also eat an avocado every day and that really helps with getting potassium.

@@KETO_DIET mine too and esp at omad days. 400-950 calories a day, high protein, more fat, no fruit, barely veggies. Amazing! My mother had edema in her feet (not too severe, but still). I gave her the most immediate solution suggested - black tea, and within 2 days it was gone! Thanks a lot dr. Berg! ❤
Dear Dr Berg, I developed pitted edema in my left foot in the hight of my obesity years in my late twenties. I have managed to reduce it significantly thanks to intermittent fasting and losing weight. This week I've started a low carb diet and deleted ultra processed foods altogether. My foot still swells a little after a long day in work, now that it's warm, but it's truly so much better! I don't know if there's damage in my kidneys and liver, I'm trying hard to eat well, I during water with apple cider vinegar and I'll try dry fasting too. I will try eating the watermelon peel suggestion 🙏🍉 I eat a lot of vegetables and I love avocado 🙏 let's hope I can heal this wonderful body of mine which is a gift I must treat well
Be careful when being still for more than 2 hours, even one hour or even a half. I know several younger people who had strokes this way. Get out of the seat and move, lift knees high, stand up on toes to constrict calves, walk quickly... Stay well hydrated. And take an asprin daily. This swelling can come from, or causes, blood clots. Also, check out natural systemic enzymes like nattokinase and lumbrokinase (must be taken on an empty stomach). It is good for brain health, too, since it helps remove amyloid plaques. Plus, of course, everything Dr Berg says.
I lost 38 pounds in less than 3 weeks. I figure it was Gluten and my reaction to Gluten was inflammation. When Thanksgiving to Christmas occurs I have more breads, cookies, gravy and my symptoms come back.
Wow this is unbelievable! Dr. Berg I was just talking to my better half about the meds he was given for his crazy numbers HBp and called his np and was told the meds were for the removal of adema, I asked can you tell me what the root cause is? They responded "we don't know and we don't look at the family history after the person turns 50, we go about through what science has taught and trained us to do". his Dr stated after asking him "does high blood pressure run in the family", and after they took blood work of my husband they couldn't give me an answer. I then called my better half and he said no it's for HBP and then i see this video! Thank you for ironically posting this video. I shared this with my husband. Hopefully this works.
My grandma has edema and Stubborn head as well 😩 when i tell her about keto she says "did you get this from the white man? I don't want it" She can barely walk and when she does it hurts every step i get heartbroken when i see her suffer like that 😭 She refused to give up dairy and carbs I'm slowly giving up oh her may god give me patience 🙏 😪
There are lots of influencers of different ethnicities that you could find if that is the only thing holding her up. The reality is most people regardless of race can't accept that everything we have been taught about food and nutrition has been completely wrong.
Considering how many people are affected by these conditions, I'm flabbergasted that its not considered a national health emergency! By this point, its not just the USA, its all over the globe.
I searched on this. I got 100s of videos. Then I searched the result to find Dr. Berg in the result. I have very high level of trust on Dr. Berg. He will explain it in such a way, I will end up gaining the valuable knowledge from him.
Thank you for this video... 🙏 #7... And the doctors would tell I eat a lot and that is why I got gained weight so quickly (+35kg in 4.5 months where I did not change my diet really). 😢 You gave me hope to push this topic further, search for some other doctors and resolve it. Thank you! 🍀
I use to cook with Vegetable oil in the morning and I stopped. Fried food is very bad for the body. I cut it out along with sugar and like you said the fluid came out like 18lbs of it. I am much better off than I was a year ago.
Great video as usual Dr Berg I’ve been watching your videos for many many many years and they have been very helpful along the way This video particularly pinpoints some good areas Anyway, wish you all the best Docto Berg 😺🙏👍
When you rest during the day, or sleep at night. Sleep with your feet & knees above your Heart. Try a couch cushion if you don't have thick pillows. It makes a huge difference in getting rid of fluid from Edema in your feet, ankles, and shins.
Could you make a video to clarify the baking soda test to check if one has enough stomach acid? You made a video on this 2 weeks ago, but around 50% of its comments express confusion or disagreement.
Various on-line sources: "For the test, you'll drink half a glass (4 ounces) of cold water combined with a quarter teaspoon of baking soda, on an empty stomach. Then time how long it takes you to burp. If it takes longer than three to five minutes, the theory goes, you don't have enough stomach acid." I agree DB's previous wording was open to interpretation. (( Although personally I'd include a little protein as the stomach/tongue does sense what is being eaten and reacts accordingly. IMHO ))
@@SpamMouse Right. But there's massive disagreement on this despite this is such an important subject. I edited my request thanks to your answer. Hopefully this is clearer.

We don't in North America seem to consider parasites and viruses as potentially causing edema when the body holds onto fluid to protect itself, or as an inflammatory response. I have seen Ivermectin completely remove long standing edema from feet, ankles and the entire body. It is a nobel prize winning medication that is not being used. Other natural anti parasitic foods and meds also can help.
Thank you for covering Lipedema, & doing so well for as brief it was mentioned. My 8.5 y/o daughter loves to watch your videos before bed & she has said since 18 months that she wants to be a doctor someday. She said you showed my type 4 legs. And it made her so happy to be studying doctor videos and seeing something she’s seeing in real life. Thank you Doctor Berg.
That could be a liver issue! I used to have insane itching after showering and breaking out in hives on my stomach chest and lower legs for about a year. It wasn’t the soap. I was not allergic to anything. Someone suggested I take milk thistle for a while. I did and within a couple of week the itching stopped and I never had that issue again. That was almost 20 years ago. I still use milk thistle now and then! Also if under your feet are itching but the itching feels like it’s on the inside and you can’t quite scratch that itch, your liver might be trying to tell you it needs attention!
Hi Dr, can something be done to get your products available in India at the same price as in US? I mean the electrolyte powder or any other product cost about double the normal price which is way too expensive for us. Can anything be done?

@Dr. Berg I just started taking your nutritional yeast and your electrolyte powder. Ive noticed three things immediately: 1. Less overall body pain 2. Better sleep 3. Thirst. I' m curious about two things: 1. I was already drinking 64 ounces daily, but now easily drinking 96. Are the supplements causing this? 2. Would any of these supplements trigger autoimmune conditions?
Pineapple juice contains an enzyme called Bromelain, which triggers a body's ability to fight pain and reduce swelling. There is way to much sugar in Pineapples so I take a concentrated Bromelain supplement(capsule).
@@geneenbell9344 The fruit will have some fibre that might mediate the sugar/insulin spike, but as whole pineapple is only 6% sugar and mostly water I would eat the fruit rather than the juice. IMHO. 🍍
I asked my Dr. just yesterday what was the cause of my edema, and she didn't know. I believe the Chemo I received messed up my kidneys and my gut bacteria, I had terrible side effects and got put in the hospital for 4 days because I had virtually no potassium in my blood. Had to have blood transfusions with potassium and magnesium drips. When I got out I had contracted covid, and she blames that for the 4 years of edema. And when asking for cure? I was told there was none, just control with diuretics, compression and massage.
