I tried homemade apple and cinnamon tea at my aunt's house once and to be honest it did taste funny. I really love cinnamon and I like apples, but that tea tasted just weird
I don't know how it is in the US but for Germany you should be careful. If you want to use citrus peel make sure the fruit is suitable for that, citrus fruit are treated with chemicals after picking. If not it should be mentioned somewhere on the packaging. BTW it doesn't matter if you buy organic fruit, same rule applies.
Christina Grandrath Same in my country. unless you grow your own produce you wouldn't be able to do this. maybe the vinegar cleaner and the scrub powder but not the rest
we have a lemon tree, a tangerine plants and tomatoes at home, basil, oregano, parsley and some other herbs too. so that's where my mom gets her lemon zest but I don't really like citrus zest so I never paid much attention to it...
ilovesparky13 In Germany you can actually buy citrus fruits that are clearly marked as "peel suitable for consumption" or something like that if you need to use the peel. If you can't find those, just get regular organic fruit (so it's free from pesticides) and wash them thoroughly with hot water (to remove the wax layer that protects them from mold).
derp 1-organic uses a ton of pesticides just like regular crops, 2-wash the fruit like you're supposed to and you're good, 3-pesticides don't concentrate by sitting on the outside of fruit. But hey, believe what you want, it's your money you're wasting.
a horse person the whole schtick behind organic food is that it doesn't use chemical based fertilizers and pesticides, so yes, OP is right. if you want to use the peels, it's better to use organic since there are no harmful chemicals hiding in the fruit
Manasi M. Organic uses chemical fertilizers and pesticides same as everyone else, they just charge more for less product. This might shock you, but everything in nature is made up of chemicals. Water is a chemical. So don't try to throw around the words if you don't understand what they mean.
You can also make orange syrup (not the pancake kind) out of the orange peels or any other citrus fruit. Boil the oranges (dont over do it or you can burn them) and add sugar to the water+peels. You can put it in your tea. It can also be done with mint leaves
I just want to point out when brewing tea, you should bring the water to a boil then let it cool off for a few minutes then add the peels. If the water is too hot it decarbs the peels of the minerals u want
