The Japanese twins at the elementary school I work at brought left over breakfast for lunch and it looked sooo good!! 😋 They eat contently while the other kids throw basically their whole lunch in the the leftover food bag
I love how she says how these recipes differ between regions and how people have their own way to make it! I get so bored of seeing people argue over the “correct” way to cook certain recipes (especially Italian food) everyone has their own tastes and recipes!!
Only the snobby ones!! Hahah. I'm Italian American and I love experimenting with new ways to make traditional dishes, food is no fun without innovation!! 😊😊
@E-J Thompson Well, western countries put very much pride in their dishes, while Asian countries particularly Japan just let their food speak for itself.
I love how Rie is so personal when she is talking about how to make her home cooked meals. I really feel for when she talked about her mom making breakfast and how she appreciates the effort that her mom put in. My mom did the same when I was in elementary and middle school.
Panda Sannah Welcome to Japanese cooking :) while not to the extent China is (from my understanding) Japan largely also connects food with happiness. And it’s super hard to argue while your having something amazing cooked with love and has complex flavors
mimigoesfishing I love her! Her accent is so easy to listen to and her hands are so skillful. Anything Japanese from tasty usually gets me excited to cook.
This video was absolutely delightful to watch! I’m of Japanese decent, but born and raised in Canada. My mum made delicious Japanese food for us, too! Miso soup was frequently served, as it’s one of dad’s favourites, but I loved my mum’s homemade kamaboko, gyoza, chirashi, futo maki, the list goes on and on...
I hope you realize you put down recipes that anyone reading it just has to google/youtube n try out!!! Somehow I think Japan and Japanese people get eay more love from around the world than they realize. Maybe too humble to realize... 🤭
i candy well yeah, mom’s are amazing thankless creatures of love. But what I’m saying is the time & attention to detail of putting faces & hats on little pieces of food for a tiny human, that’s something else hats off. There’s a reason most kids grow up on sandwiches & not little food balls that look like teddy bears, it’s time consuming.
My family and I are from Mexico, but my husband's mother is Japanese. I know not all Japanese mothers fit the stereotype of being like tiger moms but my husband and his older brother were psychologically and physically abused up until the end of the teenage years and it shows! I've known her for five years and it's true, she is the most absolute stereotypical " If-you-don't-succeed-in-life-I-will-disown-you". We are still healing from her but I still feel stressed when I see a Japanese woman thinking she'll be like the mother-in-law! Rie seems so nice and sweet though which makes me interested in Japanese culture again!
Gosh, that sounds like she was a terrible parent. It's so mean to make your love conditional to a child. That tiger mom cra p is for the birds. It's just disguised child abuse.
@@suzeldiegoguerra2943 nice job taking a cute comment on Japanese mothers amd making it negative. Hope you grow out of your bigotry towards japanese women
Homemake Japanese food is something that many travelers don't have a chance to experience by visiting Japan. It is wonderful for you to share them to the world!
Japanese breakfast is seriously the best comfort food. My grandmother is from Japan and she used to make this sort of thing all the time growing up. For our miso soup she would usually add cabbage instead of the mushrooms and I think it’s so neat to the see subtle changes in what families like to add.
the way she cooks okonomiyaki is so fascinating to me!! ✨the way my mom and obaa made it is completely different so it makes me really appreciate how differently japanese families prepare their beloved dishes. I'm the only one in the family that loves having traditional japanese breakfasts, i love cooking them and i love eating them 😋. i wish they all would eat with me but my mom liles toast and coffee 😁
I love Japanese food and I am so happy that I live in a city with a huge Asian community, most of them are japanse and we have a japanse quarter with all japanse shops, restaurants and bars! I am so happy that I had the chance to grow up with japanse food and a bit of the japanse culture! It s the best food I ever had in my life! Thank you for your amazing videos! 😊
This makes me emotional. My Dad is a sushi chef, and he came to the US from Japan on a college wrestling scholarship when he was my age. He told me when he was on a strict diet and cutting weight, he'd fall asleep and see all the wonderful food from home he couldn't eat in his waking life. Fast forward forty years to the present and he's still working his own sushi bar. Growing up I ate everything in this video. I remember fresh miso soup, homemade broiled mackerel, takuan pickles and natto with rice. At every difficult period in life, his answer was and still is to make delicious food for people and be proud that they enjoy his food. I took it for granted as a child, but I think I should call him and tell him how much it meant to me.
Midori Endo I would definitely say do that; often and as much as you can. We need to say this to our loved one while we still can. I still wish I had said more to mine. Peace and friendship.
“Once you get to know your rice cooker, it’s your friend.” That’s the most asian thing I’ve ever heard Edit: I didn’t mean to disrespect Rie guys,Im an asian myself.I just thought it was funny because i can relate to her 😂😭
+Alexander Lacaden you don't have to be possessive or interested to be a fan :) Good for her, hopefully her husband helps make her happy, she's so happy~
@@meghanharls4094 The US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2 with atomic bombs. Soooo... many of us Americans kinda feel guilty for doing that considering how deadly the effects were and how they still effect people today.
@@meghanharls4094 Also, the bombing is a REALLY important part of history because it shows how powerful and terrible humans can be to one another (and yeah.... A LOT of people know about it). But its okay because I just told you (unlike that other guy).
When I was in Hiroshima, my boyfriend and I stumbled across this tiny Okinomiyaki place and we didn't know that there were different ways regions of Japan made the dish. It was so delicious and so much food. Half way through eating out meal there was a group of people a few seats away and they were so kind and friendly asking where we were from etc. They ended up sharing a whole bunch of food with us because they wanted us to try all these dishes and get a taste of Hiroshima. I will never forget Japan and the amazing people!
The Japanese are really amazing and warm (except during Tokyo rush hours jk) The food and language differences across Japan are extremely interesting. There's some kind of a rivalry between Hiroshima and Osaka as to which is the true authentic okonomiyaki, but surprisingly after digging a bit... The roots trace all the way back to Edo, or old Tokyo. Basically food that resembled okonomiyaki was sold by travelling food carts from Edo, which just happened to be interpreted differently when spread to the 2 regions.
You seem like such a sweetheart 😊 I’m American, but Japanese food has always been my favorite and I really want to learn how to cook authentic Japanese food so I can incorporate it in my every day diet. I’m definitely subscribing🖤
Damn not to sound like a weeb or anything, but Japanese food seems the best The portion is controlled, easy to eat, and seems healthy. It's also delicious.
Wow, this video was truly fantastic and I need to start doing better in the kitchen!!!! Thanks so much for sharing the recipes as well as information about your Japanese culture. Bravo!!!! 🙏🏾👍🏾👏🏾😋
Convincing masks is a skill a lot of eastern Asians Master, and can be a huge problem, because it’s seen as “raising a fuss”, a lot of sexual harassment and assault goes unreported, so they use their mask
This is wonderful! We have had sushi since 1976 in different restaurants in California and when we lived in Alaska. Loved most all of it! Glad to see you showing these fabulous recipes.....
Absolutely AMAZING! What a lovely lady! Beautiful food! This site is so well done with the right amount of personal info and stories while showing the amazing food! I love hearing how other cultures live especially when it comes to food.. Thank you!
I have a friend whose family is pure Japanese, they moved to Hawaii and had their son which is my friend. And his mom made curry when I was at their house for dinner. And It was the best authentic Japanese foods I've ever had.
After seeing this video, my mouth is watering due to Ms. Rie cooking amazing Japanese food. Especially okonomiyaki and tamagoyaki. It must be delicious.
Everything you do is fascinating!!! I first saw you on the show where a small group of chefs each make their own dish based on a theme or ingredient. All of the ways you did your creations there were so delightful, and I remember being fascinated by the tofu snack (or side dish) idea, where big chunks were stacked, dressed in sauce, and sprinkled with, I think, finely sliced green onion. It just had that Japanese "clean food" quality, and it had a hunger satiating quality, and, it was also fancy and gourmet with the umami sauce and just right green onion topping. When I'm so moved by something, that means that I should pursue it, because it resonates with things my subconscious knows, that I don't necessarily know up front. I'm so fascinated by Japanese food because it seems so clean and light, but really substantial and flavorful at the same time!!! In your above video, I think the dessert looks really fun, but, I was blown away by the okonomiyaki!!! Everything looked really great, though, I really liked this video!!!!!!
But you’re characterizing all of American food culture into just parts of the Midwest and the south. Your not even acknowledging things like the seafood culture of the northeast with items such as clam chowder, quahogs, crab cakes, muscles and more.
Lmao erm how many Michelin stars has Rhea got? Ik you like her but come on. Gordon ramsay has like tricking 17 michelin stars. He would wipe the floor with her and make the mop taste good
I loved this video so much! Thank you for making Japanese food simple and accessible for us. My favourite food in your video is tamagoyaki, and my favourite Japanese food in general are omurice, onigiri, and curry. I look forward to trying some of your recipes!
