What I hate the most is the joint pain that is associated with menopause. It is a nightmare especially in the shoulder and hip areas.

It is weird that we are not better informed about PM. I thought I was going crazy. Months of headaches, felt like I could not open my eyes fully, tired, morning sickness. I got new glasses (made no difference ofcourse), tried light therapy (in case it was a winterdepression). I felt terrible. And when I got the doctor with all these complaints, and she asked: does depression run in your family? I could cry. I felt crushed. Felt like this was my fault. Also felt judged by her. I asked her could this be PM? She said: maybe a bit of both. Its something we all have to go through. I never went back to her. I was at my lowest, but thankfully things got slowely better. Walking helped me a lot. I expected more sympathy from a female doctor. She was too young, but her time will come😊

I wish I would’ve found you when I went through it. Doctors were clueless which made me feel worse inside. I’m 2 years into meno and so far it’s been a breeze for me, compared to the hell I went through during peri. My ADD played a big part too. Thank you so much for these videos. I know you’re helping so many women❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@@dorothygale5032 I tried everything. Nothing helped me. I just had to get through it. Those were the worst years of my life. Now, when I have an issue I think -this is nothing compared to perimenopause. Whew! I feel bad for anybody that is suffering.

My girlfriend is 52 now when we started seeing each other she was turning 51. Shortly after we started seeing each other she had mentioned to me about her periods being lighter and sometimes skipping and I didn't think nothing about it. I also noticed mood swings kind of sort of, and I would ask myself if I needed to leave but I never did. After that for a period of time we were good then she would block me for a couple of months! She would then reach back out to me as if everything was fine and we would be doing us again, then right back to the same thing She told me not to call her Don't text her and not to come to her home as of that date and time she was blocking me and really I did nothing. She came to see me in North Carolina for 3 weeks before she came I told her I said you know we're doing this, right? I asked her I said are you sure your ready for me, are you ready to do this, because you know we're doing this right? She said I know! We were talking about buying a house together or doing an addition to her house which is already paid for.and actually making it happen! The first two weeks were good, the third week It's like the switch flipped again! I started seeing slight mood swings I noticed that she was bloated ((but I never said anything, because I accept her for her) She lashed out at me for no reason over drinking her water behind her which I have always did, She had dryness during us being together. She does have all the other symptoms as well from A to z but that third week she acted like she had to get out of there kind of like a fire or flight mode and before she left she said she wasn't ready (here we go again at least I feel like on the downward slope of the roller coaster) I am here for her and not going anywhere because I feel like I know what this is (perimenopause, menopause) does this sound about right to you
@kellyramsey5486
@kellyramsey5486 4 месяца назад
@@Brokentofixed I guess I can relate to her from what you said. You seem to have enough patience to handle her mood swings. I’ve shut everybody out of my life. Being alone is easier than pretending I’m okay. I try to be positive but this has been the hardest struggle of my life.

@@kellyramsey5486 Yes like I said I'm not going anywhere She reached out to me after 20 something years we had something back when I was 19 and she was 26. She went to a different shift and shortly after we lost touch then 20 something years later she finds me on Facebook and contacts me She told me that we are compatible, which we are I just can't wait till she gets through this. She can't take HRT so she's doing it all natural but she's doing good with it I know

I started peri at 41/42 yo and didn’t know anything. Post meno now at 50 and wish I knew all these things back then. So unpleasant and honestly a struggle. Still showing symptoms even the most unsuspecting symptoms can be peri or meno. New symptoms were appearing every 6 mos. But I got through it naturally no HRT. Waiting for all this to settle and feel more like myself and for the unwanted weight gain to go away 😫 What really surprised me and affected me were depression (thought I could be suicidal), low mood all the time, energy zap, high anxiety, feeling unsafe, paranoia, when outside worrying there’s no toilet 😆 or being too far from home, sensitivity to certain sounds (doorbell, ambulance, phone ringing, knock on door, any surprising sound, brain fog, forgetfulness, wanting to isolate/hide, weight gain, bloating and body shape changes (thoughts were… Whose body is this? What the heck happened?), intolerance to food, digestive issues (not enjoying food or eating out worrying if I’ll have an intolerance attack 😆 - gas, stomach noises, diarrhea, tummy ache, indigestion), bodyaches, lack of motivation, over all feeling of ‘I don’t care’. Thank goodness 3 years of this the world was in lockdown. I could talk for days about this but obviously won’t do that 😂

Add to the list itchy skin. Suffered what looked like dermatitis flare up on my face my whole forehead, eyelids, sides of my cheeks. It was deep itchiness that I couldn’t scratch or it turned into a wound and was oozing and dry like leather and peeling. Terrible! I think the heat of summer didn’t help. I was beyond desperate. It lasted 4mos and still healing now 2 mos after and just glad I look normal again. I am crossing my fingers IBS flare up or something like it is not connected to meno as I was in agony the last 4 days. Awful! Never really knew I had it if I have it 😫

Thanks for this video, Kari! I wasn't aware of perimenopause until earlier this year, after suffering through it for three years already (beginning at age 34). I couldn't figure out what in the world was wrong with me. The bloating and weight gain were the worst in my first year. I gained 20 pounds even though I was eating a plant-based diet. That was extremely bizarre. I started taking online ballet classes for adults in January and it has helped so much with weight loss and anxiety. I discovered that intense cardio wasn't helpful for my body because it was already stressed enough. Strength training and low-impact workouts are the way to go! I appreciate your content and helpful information!!!

I wish I had seen this video years ago!!!! I am turning 50 in two months and have experienced a lot of those terrifying symptoms as well. I also have a thyroid condition that was from early childhood so balancing hormones has been extra challenging. My doctor has offered zero insight or information about my issues. They just act like I’m crazy. I have dealt with hormones long enough to know I need to do my own research and have figured out the best treatments myself. I also am not a candidate for HRT. I am most disappointed in the lack of warning I got from the older women in my family. Ladies, tell your daughters so they can have resources early on. I tell mine (she is 23) because we don’t know if we will still be there later in life. They need the knowledge.

Yes, yes, and yes!! All of the above. I think I am in early perimenopause, and this video hits home to the T. I have had so many tests, blood work, ultrasounds, CT scans, x-rays & more, and doctors' visits including several specialists in the last 3 months, and no real answers, just that everything is fine, and that it is either congenital or age-related, and I have received no treatment suggestions either. I got an offhanded comment at an appointment to make sure my new presentations of chest trouble was not heart related this summer that "oh you're probably in perimenopause and anxiety can get worse during that time. " No suggestions, no information just me and google with a new word. I've learned so many of things I've struggled with in the past few years (chronic conditions getting worse and other things) are perimenopause related. On a whimsy note my hot flashes currently make me comfortable at "normal" people temperatures (I've always run a little cold) I crack up whenever I realize that.

I turn 50 in December, and the symptoms over the last few years absolutely confounded me. Suddenly my straight hair was curly, I became lactose-intolerant, and I could no longer drink diet sodas without being trapped in the bathroom in pain the next day. The frustrating part is that I have Hashimoto's, where my immune system has totally destroyed my thyroid and I have to take thyroid replacement for the rest of my life. I'm pretty sure now that it was the combination of perimenopause and hypothyroidism that landed me in the hospital in the need of a blood transfusion because my body stopped making red blood cells. They scoped both ends of me, took a lot of blood tests, but didn't find anything wrong. I take an iron supplement now and am feeling a lot better. I have a female doctor at the VA who only sees female vets. She does her best to calm me down every time I freak out about a new symptom. I usually have to take another blood test each time just to rule out the possibility of needing to have my thyroid medication increased, but it's good to get piece of mind that everything's ok.

I hate going to the doctor, but when I started to experience seemingly unrelated symptoms, I considered it. Then, while I was researching some of my symptoms, I came across one of your videos on perimenopause. After watching a couple more of your videos, I realized that my symptoms were likely a result of fluctuating estrogen so I monitored my cycle ( there are some websites that describe what happens every day of a monthly cycle so I used that for a general gauge of estrogen decreases ). I have found that when I increase the phytoestrogens I consume, during the days that my estrogen is low, my symptoms are less intense. You suggested some supplements; I am now taking Magnesium, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D daily. I have not started taking collagen yet, but I am planning to. I live with people who don’t try to understand the discomforts of perimenopause,.if I interact with them often, my cortisol level will rise. I therefore keep my interactions with them to a minimum. Thank you for providing clear explanations for, and excellent descriptions of, the many perimenopause symptoms that we might experience. I am sure you have eased the anxiety of many women. ❤️🙏

Firstly womens health is not a priority within the health system. We are second class citizens. And menopause falls into two camps , the one that NHS GP's know nothing about or even deny its existence and then the Gynaecologist/ menopause experts etc that understand it completely. It's night & day.

I wish they talked about atrophy. The changes were astonishing. I was not in a relationship when I went through menopause. No one looks "down there" except the doctors, and they never said anything. One day I did, and I was shocked. When I asked about it and if it would get worse. (for those of you who were spared, you go back to looking like a child) my gyno said she didn't know because she didn't know what it looked like before. It d*mm sure didn't look like that. And they wonder why women keep trying all of these things on internet.

I have gone through a few books about menopause, and after reading them, I don't feel like I am any more educated on the subject. My mom mostly talks about how unbearable the hot flashes were, and that soy milk helped a bit, but doesn't really remember much else. Thanks for making these videos. I wish I knew about perimenopause before hand from my gyno or doctor. My mom never told me anything about it and I’m the only girl in a family of all boys. I started to go through it when I hit 45 and caring for my sick mom. I made so many trips to the ER sure I was dying. I found you in tik tok and all the symptoms you mentioned he home. I started to research and buy supplements, change my eating and started to enjoy more being alone. My mom passed away and my son left for college as I was going through perimenopause. It’s not been a good couple of years for me. I am lucky to have found you and the community of women who make me feel seen and heard. And that I’m not alone in this challenging journey. I’ve made sure to tell my daughter so when it’s her time, she will know and how to advocate for her health.

I wish your videos were around when I was going through the thick of it (10+ years ago). I happened to have heard of perimenopause but 1) at the time it was believed to only last a couple of years before your period ended and you were in menopause; and 2) my doctor told me I was too young to be in perimenopause (I was about 45/46 at the time). I thought I was going crazy but found some solace in a UK forum (I'm from the US). This helped immensely to have women talk about symptoms that I was experiencing. Just knowing that what I was going through was a normal change that can get out of hand at some points, helped me to calm down and just ride out the storm. The absolute worst were the "flooding" periods that felt like I was losing a gallon of blood and the fact that I thought as you got closer to menopause your periods would be further apart. But no, just the opposite for me. It was like I was getting one every 25-26 days!! As they say, you are doing God's work Kari Anne Wright! Please keep going.

You are so right. I really wish someone had told me what perimenopausal symptoms were when I was going through it! Not 1 doctor even mentioned that I could be perimenopausal. From about the age of around 40 I started getting digestive issues around my period ( ughhh ) and I started to notice I was feeling extra warm during summertime here in Perth, Western Australia. We have really hot summers here & I was always able to cope reasonably well with our dry heat until around age 40 where it felt like I was burning up & just wanted to lie under a fan constantly. 🥵 I remember on a trip to Bali I almost fainted due to the constant humidity. Looking back now, in my menopausal 50’s I’m certain that it was perimenopause. It’s a shame most doctors aren’t thinking of this.

I am in the middle of perimenopause and had horrible PMDD. HRT worked for about 6 months then the cramps were worst than labor, I was pushing for a hysterectomy. But after some tests it was going to be hard to justify it to the insurance. I was willing to pay out of pocket just to be done. I did some more research worked with my Dr and went on Bupropion. It has been magic. I feel better, my weight is going down, I sleep better, I can drive without a panic attack. I can have my life back. Is it the answer for others I have no idea, but just putting that idea out into the universe to hope it helps others if they choose to go that route.

The pad brand in number 5- those have been the best find since my cycles went wonky. I didn't even realize by the end of my regular cycles I was sore from wearing regular grew up with those brand pads. The difference is profound I use their thin pads for the week leading up to my normal cycle time (which has shortened but it's more the flow that's been weird for me) and I'm not sore at all after a few days of wearing pads consistently. I mean these would have been great before perimenopause too but with my less regular cycle I appreciate them so much more.
